Allman Tribute Show

Thanks for your input Rusty ... just reading words about a "phenomenon" helps to give a target for my bitterness and anger ...
Hoping Derek and Warren are " worth the price of admission" that night.
Peace.

Derek and Warren together are always worth the price of admission. Jumping on tickets for a hot show is always a good idea. If the prices went the other way and they were selling for a higher amount on the secondary market, would it matter to you? You'd still be seeing the same show. Just enjoy it!

Gonna be a helluva show! You'll get every dime's worth! Also - Clapton is coming! 😉

I posted this elsewhere ... but I'm just looking for a possible explanation of the scenario in which my buddy paid $200 for tickets that are now $50 ? How does this happen, and is there any recourse ? the receipt is from ticket master ... but i'm confused as to why we would pay secondary market prices for a show that still had thousands of seats available ?
The complete rip off not withstanding ... we are looking at this show as closure to our 25 years of following this band across two countries and over 20 shows ... and are otherwise excited to experience the music of the ABB live one more time ...
Also, we were looking for "help" from fellow brothers , or sisters who will be attending the show ... we are coming from Canada and will not be able to "bring" anything over the border ... I know the sensitivity of the subject - but with it being the last show ever - we want to be in a proper state of mind ... and you help would be greatly appreciated.
If your buddy bought from Ticketmaster, he was a victim of "dynamic pricing":
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ticketmaster-implement-dynamic-pricing-system-179493
Throughout the day of the original sale, prices kept going up, because there was high demand. Now that demand has slowed, they are coming down. Scalpers have always done this, so their prices continue to vary. If there were only a few tickets left, instead of going down, prices would be going up.

How do after market tickets get sold for less than list price?
The promoter hired the band and sets the price (the band's pay may or may not have anything to do with ticket revenue).
When tickets go on sales these days, you always have concert goers and scalpers buying tickets immediately. Scalpers are taking a chance that the after-market will be higher than what is available on ticketmaster. In this case, the scalpers over estimated demand and price, so they've had to price aftermarket tickets (particularly upper level) really low now. They are taking a loss. The performer really did nothing wrong, unless we want to blame them for not running their own ticketing operation that limits scalpers (not realistic for a one time tribute show, nor realistic for most performers on tour).

I'm going to love every second of this show and I paid more than ever in my life for tickets for inside the first 15 rows.
Having said that, I think an appropriate word for ticketmaster's "dynamic pricing" is "fraud". The concept is based on demand. The first day of the presale, what I paid for a great seat up close became the dynamic price for the lower bowl, then the top of the lower bowl, and then the upper bowl went to over $300. I think I stopped tracking when I saw "$305 plus fees" for upper level dynamic pricing.
They're trying to scalp before the scalpers, but, the demand is false demand, created by the scalpers themselves. And also, they can hold back as many tickets as they want to to create even more false demand. There was no real demand on day one. Just yesterday, ticketmaster released a bunch of lower level seats for $179 plus fees for the same seats that were something like $456 plus fees on day 1. The demand was created by the scalpers buying up tons of tickets as well as ticketmaster holding tickets back. This isn't right. It should be illegal to do this since the premise of demand has proven to be absolutely false for this particular show.

Yeah I saw a big chunk of new tickets in Section 106 and also a bunch in 104 (and elsewhere) just "released". Who knows what TM is going to do next. Who knows how many tickets have actually been sold to people who plan to go to the show versus scalpers versus unreleased tickets still being held back. The business just keeps getting shadier and shadier.

Ok, I rushed into buying tickets during the pre-sale and paid way too much for mediocre seats and I am stuck with an extra that I will not be able to even give away. Guess what? I am still psyched to see this show. Flying in from Florida that day to see family and the show (I live in both NYC and Florida), and think this show is going to be incredible.
The deal with tickets is this. You figure out how much you can afford and want to pay and make the decision whether or not you want to. It is capitalism.

HEY KIDS,.. HERES MY TAKE ...IF YOUR INSIDE MSG ON MARCH 10TH,, YOU RE GONNA BE HAVING A BETTER TUESDAY NIGHT, THAN MOST OF THE WORLD.in those few hours,,.. WHAT EVER IS BROUGHT TO THE STAGE , FROM WHOM EVER IS SINGING....YOU'RE HAVING A BETTER NIGHT....AND YES WE WILL BE THERE GOING HOME FOR A FEW DAYS,,,,AND ENJOYING THE BEST MOMENTS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,TUESDAY MARCH, 10,,,,,,,see yall… PRE PARTY GET TOGETHER AT THE LIBERTY NYC ,,,,SAY HEY...…………………...

What’s up Fam, been years since I dusted off the account but felt it was worthwhile since I just got tickets for the MSG gig.
Feelings are definitely mixed on this show and I probably would have passed if my father in law didn’t want to go.. we used to go to the beacon every year, issue being I live in Massachusetts so this is definitely a tall order for a Tuesday night.
Regardless I think it’ll be a good time and am happy I’m going. My ABB music love and related bands have definitely left me over the past few years. Mule has definitely lost their spark IMO, never liked Susan T so TTB does little for me and am still bitter there is no more DTB. BUT I think and am hoping 3/10/20 brings me right back where I left years ago.
As for tickets, I’ve been watching them since they went on sale and am happy I waited. I got two in floor sec 3 for $250 total after fees. I think the ideal time to buy was two weeks ago, prices have marginally increased over the past week, I think the tickets I got were definitely an outlier.. not sure if there are rumors leaking or if scalpers have decided to not give in to lowering prices. I think there will be deals to have day of but until then I think prices will trend upwards.

Some shows you can do better by waiting to buy tix and some shows you do worse, you never really know how it's going to go. If you've got a ticket to this show already you win no matter what because you are walking through the door on 3/10 and it should be a really great night.
As far as the recent uptick in scalper prices, seems like that is just a tactic to try and create some anxiety to buy now before prices go up more. All i know is that last week at the 100 level sections there were 571 seats on Stubhub (not including any behind the stage), and this morning there were 639 seats at the 100 level, so the # of seats for sale is going up not down.
