Was the date on the front of the photo?

Yes similar to this,Dated Nov 71.

On the back written in pen was Duane's name,Address and the date of the accident.

Ran a google search on Polaroid cameras that printed date of photo on the photo itself, and Polaroid said they never made a camera that put the date on the image.

Odd -- most of our family photos from back then do have the month & year -- w/sendout type film -- think we used Kodak instead of Polaroid film/camera tho, which might be it

What's the evidence that the photo is authentic?

Okay, i posted this topic and used the "term" polaroid in it's title. I can't remember if the eBay description that came along with this disgusting offer actually contained that exact word. Sorry, if i caused confusion. Polaroid was the term that came up in my head to describe the kind of photograph. It's a universal brand name. So back when i was young the expression "someone took a polaroid" was often used probably including events when in fact another brand was used. Once again sorry for any probable confusion.

From what I remember before the photo was taken down, while it could have been a polaroid, I remember in the late 60's and early 70's when my granny gave me my first camera, a Kodak Brownie, with a hand crank, and when you developed the I think it was 110 Kodak film on glossy paper at a professional developer, it looked like that. I also remember old color photos in the photo albums of friends and family looking like that back then. That's just how most developed photos like like back then that were developed at your neighborhood store. Unless it pops up again and someone takes a screen shot before it comes down, we will never know. But if it does pop up someone who knows how to do a screen shot might want to do that so we can better track the photo and its origins and notify the proper entities.

I used "Polaroid" in the generic sense meaning a picture.
This is a screen shot of the date stamp.

While doing detective research to find the ebay seller or see if this Sharon McBride or anyone else posted or reposted the photo anywhere I came across both of these,

dated January 2017

dated March 2017

Both posted by foreign sounding named posters, nothing there just a visual image of some PDF file, but I'm guessing that unfortunately there may be more of these than we all were/are aware of and to be on the lookout for to report.

I had shared about these 2 youtube links a few days back as well that are posted by 2 foreign sounding names. Anyone know anything about these both under heading Duane Allman Death Photos.

When I first saw the initial post and ebay link my first reaction was;

No F'in Way, definite BS!!....I figured some idiot was trying to pass off a photo that was so obviously fake it would be laughable. (I am NOT in any way referring to the original poster).....Then I clicked on the link......

Trust me, it was authentic alright.....Like most of us here who've seen Duane Allman in hundreds of photos, there was no mistaking, it was definitely Duane Allman.....recently deceased unfortunately .... I was pretty shocked that someone was actually in possession of a photo that graphic from so many decades ago and had the balls to post it on eBay and start the bidding at $1000. An obvious attempt to cash in on the interest generated by Gregg's recent passing....Some sad people out there, but I guess we all have different ideas of what we consider acceptable or appropriate or even in the realm of decency.

Was I sorry I clicked on it?..No...I've seen several family members pass, dead bodies don't shock me...He was human....We all die...Do I want to remember Duane that way?....Not really...

I'd rather remember him holding a vintage Paul, with his classic look of being deep in the musical ozone, hittin' that note.

Yeah, that looks a lot like a print photo. Something you could get from an old film type camera. Polaroid was a self developing film and didn't have the dates on them. Print film had the month of when the negatives were developed. I have some old photos where they were developed about a year after they were taken and they show the moth developed, not when taken.
This person could have snuck in what then was called a "pocket camera" and took a few pictures. I would bet that wherever they had the film developed somebody made copies of the negatives.
