I've heard in the past that the inspiration for Seven Turns was from Navajo mythology. But I've never been able to find anything further. There was once mention of a "Navajo Church" elder named Steward Eckley (?) and his shared wisdom & stories.

Anyway, I'd like to find added background on this. It's both a great song & a great mythology = "Seven Turns on the Highway (of life), Seven Rivers to Cross..."

Any info or references welcome. Thanks!

I wouldn't know where to find it but that is what Dickey said in 1990. It's a song inspired by Indian folklore. Dickey's Indian guru and spiritual guide passed away not long before Dickey developed personal problems that affected his play and relationship with Gregg.
