This sort of made me wonder, what is the criteria you place around traveling for a show ?
Not packing yet, but I did get my ticket..........
When I was still working, I would fly to Jacksonville, rent a car and drive to Live Oak.
Now that I am retired, I drive down. Drive to Chattanooga the first day (about 10 hours) and the rest of the way on Wednesday. I have been stopping in Macon at the H&H for lunch - last year I ran into Poet John and he took me to Kirk's gallery and Grant's Lounge. I see they have something going on at the Big House that day, but I want to get to Wanee for the Freight Train Band show.
I always stay in a hotel, so that means reservations about a year in advance.
Not packing, but kind of putting the list together. I am planning on riding the new bike down. I am going to pack a tent, air mattress and sleeping bag so that I can crash at the Hilton after the late shows. Also, I want to be there in case Jr. Mack decides to come by and do one of his late night serenades. I have a room at the Quality Inn that I will use for showers and some sleeping.
I just can't get used to showering in those camp bathhouses and wading around in other people's runoff. It's just fucking nasty. It's worth it to me to pay for a room that I won't be in that much.
