Everyone's going to think I'm just Barry biased, but, you have to admit that 43 minute jam of Copacabana>I Write The Songs>Whipping Post>Copa is just off the friggin' charts!!!! 😛

Myself, got in today Canned Heat's double cd "Livin' The Blues." Looking forward to a 45 minute Refried Hockey Boogie later tonight.

Haven't heard this one since the college daze. Cool

Not to mention the 20 minute "Parthenogenesis" on disc one.

Always got a kick out of the different members nicknames

Bob "Bear" Hite
Larry "The Mole" Taylor
Harvey "The Snake" Mandell
Henry "Sunflower" Vestine
Allen "Blind Owl" Wilson

Cool

Actually, one of my absolute most favorite bootleg shows involves "Blind Owl" Wilson.

It's from 1964, a Boston radio broadcast with both Mississippi John Hurt and Skip James. Wilson adds some harmonica. It's acoustic roots, pure ass blues music, very intimate.

May need to dig that out later. Grin

Canned Heat didn't actually form until several years later.

Blind Owl was a college student at the time of the broadcast.

Also played a very competent slide guitar in Canned Heat.

And yet, as much as I enjoy Canned Heat and John Lee Hooker separately, their collaboration was one of the single gawdawfuliiest releases ever.

True story.

Back in college, with heightened anticipation (because we were fans of both), a buddy of mine to this day, bought Hooker 'N Heat. 2 LP release.

Slapped it on his turntable in his dorm room and started listening. When it was over the first run through, we looked at each other like "WTF was that crap??"

Played the first album once more and my pal took it off the turntable, snapped it over his knee and did the same to the second record. He said something like "just trying to help the planet survive."

Maybe six months later, we were going into a bachelor party for a mutual friend of ours, and tossed in the parking lot as we walked up to the building was a cassette tape with most of it purposefully unwound outside the plastic case. It had been run over at least once. We looked down at it, it was Hooker 'N Heat. We both laughed our asses off.

I may not have hid it well, I'm not terribly fond of Hooker 'N Heat.
