I know at least one person on this site wants to know the significance of the Big 6 necklaces.....

I know most of the meaning, however I hope Karen will tell the whole story. I would tell my version, but I have been drinking too much beer....

I'm pretty sure it does not involve sheep (the animal, not the HTW member from CA).

I'd like to hear the story again too. She told me, but we were both a bit tipsy, and she was shouting it in my ear at B.B. King's while Lefty, Devon Allman and company were wailing away on the stage, so I didn't catch much of it.

I don't either, but she gave my sons each one last summer at Darien.

She explained the significance to them.

For some reason I don't remember all the details.

I blame spending two hours tailgaiting with Karen & Lynn.

Thanks Bluedad. They are interesting. Susie and I would love to have one. After getting back from the Honeytribe show in Columbia, I downloaded my pics and noticed Bluedad, Bigdave and Pedro all three were wearing the same necklaces. I thought where do you get those? I am not much into jewelry, but those did catch my eye. I said something to Susan about it and she had noticed them too at the club. We are interested in what is does symbolize. I am the type, when it comes to wearing jewelry like that, I probably would never take it off.

See picture

I can say this....it's an HONOR to have one. It comes from a special person for a special reason.

And notice in my siggy pic I have it on, also.

I asked about these at the last Beacon. I cannot make it to Beacon or Wanee due to life changes. Is there anyway to join this elite circle of Brothers and Sisters ?

Karen so loving made me one and gave it to me at the DBGS show at Beacon 06' .... there was a gathering in her room..meeting lots of folks from the site , having a pre show get together.. When she gave this necklace to me .. I asked her what it meant.... and I'm sorry to to say with all the excitement ... and noise in the room .. what I heard and remember is something about Two Indian tribes and burying the hatchet...

Karen we need you to tell the story ..one more time.. Please.. and I love my necklace.. Thank You once again for it.... it means alot to me.....

I know the meaning behind the peace necklace -- even the bear butt engraved on it -- and chances are I was probably a little tipsy when told but I think Karen should step into the spotlight and provide the inspirational background in her own elegant words.

Wow….I’m humbled and honored !! Anyway, thanks brothers and sisters…and here’s my story:

quote:
This necklace is what I call my Peace Necklace.

It is made of brass in the shape of a tomahawk, imprinted with an old style stamp of a bear. The Six Nations of the Iroquois (that’s my tribe) all have clans…mine is bear, thus the bear stamp. The tomahawk is one of the weapons our people used in their battles.

Hundreds of years ago after much infighting, the Iroquois became tired of the battles and decided they would surrender to each other and not fight any more. To achieve this, they buried all their weapons under the Great Tree of Peace, vowing to never enter into conflict with each other again.

So now when you see the tomahawk, it is only displayed in ornamental purposes signifying the peace and love they sought is still there.

And that’s about it….there’s a lot more that goes along with the story, a lot of rich history but this is a condensed version that I like to share with folks as a bit of ourselves.

And normally I do like to give these to people in person, I dunno that’s just me but I know over the years I might have forgotten to send one to someone so if that’s *you*, shoot me a pm and I’ll hook ya up.

Man, oh man…..PR286, I cannot believe I’ve never given you one, my BAD and we will fix that and soon !!!!

Thanks again folks...*blushing* you guys rock !!!

Later, Karen

ps - RP and Susie, got you covered at Wanee !!

pps - why in the heck are you guys alwasy tipsy when I'm trying to tell my stories....sheesh

Karen gave them to the boys at the concert, while we were waiting on the front row upgrade, won by RottenBob.

We are all blessed to know Karen and her family. The Peace necklaces are not only symbolic of their true origns, but now, in "modern" times,it gives us all a symbol of our extended family's bond, and the inner peace it brings to each one of us.

Thanks to Karen for how generous she, and what a good friend she is to us all!

One of my favorite moments was at the Beacon pre-show party last year. Shelby took his peace necklace off to give to someone who had asked about it and loved the meaning behind it. The act alone made me tear up and the look on the recipient's face was priceless.

Karen and Lynn sure have done a fine job raising those kids!

This old world would truly be a better place with more people like Karen. I am glad I asked about the necklace and what it symbolizes.

Thanks so much....................

Karen was nice enough to me and my son Jason and gave us each a necklace at a pre-Beacon St. Pat's party in their room (I believe it was 2005). Jason was watching some Derek Trucks video and saw he was wearing one of Karen's necklaces, and so he felt a part of a very good club. Thanks Karen.
