Get your mind out of the gutter.

I finally sold my soul and bought an Ipod.

8785 songs, 48 GB, and 600 albums and a couple hundred artists.... my question- how big is your digital library?

LOL

I have a 20G.. and have about 5G left on it. I usually add and delete "boots" here and there. Most of it right now is a mishmash of commercial stuff.

I refuse to buy an ipod... I do have an mp3 player... it's only 2gb...

as far as studio music, I probably have around 110GB's of mp3's... I don't even wanna think about the size of all my FLAC files... cept to say I have near a terabyte (1000GB worth of hard drive space and I still can't fit it all on there)

Ross, preaching to the choir. I swore I would never become one of the sheeple and buy an Ipod. But once I did I fully converted. Total hypocrite. I've even bought a 1gb ipod shuffle for the gym... got my car hardwired for it.

Damn I love that thing.

Bought a 4G and was hooked.

Then I lost it, and NEEEDED another one.

Enter the used 20G from Ebay that I got in a sweet deal

I'm not sure I was clear...

I DO own an mp3 player, or DAP (digital audio player) which is what an ipod is... a small flash based one that holds 2 GB's... Cowon iAudio U3 is my brand and model... LOVE IT!

I refuse to buy an ipod like I refuse to shop at walmart...

I listen to music while I do everything... I allso have my sirius... weather it be in my car, at work (my office is lax enough to let me play my music all day), riding bike, hiking...

I'm even looking at buying another one... There is a new cowon player that is 8GB (16GB forthcoming - all flash based, which is better for my use since they are more shock resistant) and has 60 hours battery life...

oh, and since I have soo much music I could never fit it on a player that I don't mind just keeping a smaller rotation on for current moods and listening... I think I have in the neighborhood of 40 albums right now and there is some room left over...

I've had an 80 gb iPod photo (3rd gen, I think) for a number of years now. The only time I use it is while traveling - mostly on planes. What makes it great for me is the Ultimate Ears phones I got with it. These are the ones where you visit an audiologist and get molds made from your ear cannals, send them to Ultimate Ears, and they produce a custom fit pair of ear pieces just for you.

It achieved two things for me. First; you'll never know just how good your iPod can sound without good ear pieces. Second, the custom fit effectively blocks out almost all surrounding noise. On a plane, the flight attendent can be standing right next to me asking what I want to drink, and I can't hear a word she's saying. Nothing has made crying babies and screeming kids on a plane more tolerable than my iPod and Ultimate Ears.

I have a thirty gig iPod that I got almost a year ago--after being a hold out. I have ten days of music on it, and it's still not half-full.

I only use it for longer car trips, but I don't like having to find an open radio frequency while driving. I hate the fuzzing in and out--and the danger of being distracted while driving. I can't afford to upgrade the car's stereo for a direct input for the iPod, unfortunately.

Although I wish the fidelity was better, you can't beat bringing ten days of music along in the palm of your hand...

Last year I dropped my mp3 player in the ocean so my wife bought me an Ipod shuffle. I have almost 9 hours worth of music on it and love it. I can tuck it under my hat, wade out waist deep
and keep on jamming.

Keep in mind in it's not the quantity of songs that matters because a few Mt. Jams will take up a couple of megs. 4 MJ's will cover 2 hours starting with the 44min version on Ludlow's.

I have an 8gb Nano. about 2,000 songs. I love the thing. It's so convienent. I wouldn't want anything bigger for running and it's fun to switch things in and out from my I tunes library. There's so much stuff I wouldn't listen to if I still had a CD disc man. I had Bob Dylan's book read by Sean Penn on there. I doubt I would have carried 6 CD's of that around with me on my commute.

Now here's a question : I work on an incredibly fast Mac. I have tons of music on my Itunes. Mostly CD's I've brought in to work and placed on there. I'm an Audio producer for major publishing company so there's no hassle as far as being "allowed" to use I tunes or not. My dilema might be that if I switch jobs and go back to a P.C. , how will I get my Itunes over to my new computer and will my Ipod be synced to it ??

I have a really cool IT guy who I think would help me out. Almost all the music is from CD's I have. I actually still like to buy CDs and have never bought from I tunes so it's not like I'd lose music in a transition. It was just so much better to use my work computer than the crappy dell laptop I'm on now.

well regrards to how you would get all ur music on ur mac to a pc, you would need to borrow or buy a external hard drive and copy it all onto there, then copy it onto ur pc. then with the ipod, yu would need to reformat your ipod to pc, which shouldnt be a problem at all, but you will lose all the music you have on it

I won't claim vast iPod expertise on this, but I had a PC crash a while back and the only storage I had of my iPod library was on the iPod itself. There are some 3rd-party apps you can buy that will allow you to transition the data on your iPod into the iTunes library. It wasn't 100% faultless, but out of 1600+ songs, it was able to transfer all but about 30 of them.

But if you don't loose the data on you Mac in the same way that my crash stranded me, I think you can easily copy the files and reinstall them on another computer, and then have iTunes recognize them. Find where they are stored on your Mac, and copy them to a DVD, then transfer to your PC. Do a little google search and you'll come up with plenty of instructions on how to move your library.

I got the 60GB Cowan player after bricking my iRiver H340 40GB, based on a recommendation of someone on this board. It's a great player, and keeps you out of the evil clutches of Steve Jobs and Apple.

Apple likes to portray itself as the underdog, but it is the Microsoft of digital music.

I only have a 30GB Ipod so I can't have as much music as I wish. With about only 1/3 of my live shows I have 5000 Songs and about 100 videos.

I've got a 20GB Rio Karma....most of the music on there is in FLAC format, so the files are bigger than MP3.

I do have some MP3's, in 192Kbps....

I killed my 30 gig and just upgraded to the 80 gig.....so far 5580 files back on, i'm probably half-way there. And I have a shuffle that I run with.

I avoided ipods as long as I could also. Not I love them, they really are amazing.

I have the black 80g. I had my library up to 6000 songs. but tried to add a library for my girlfriend and lost what I had. I have recovered most from my hard drive. Best thing I have ever owned pertaining to music. I never have to carry around cd's again.
