So, Johnny Damon comes up to bat first. Count 3-1. He blasts what is initially called a foul ball, but quickly overturned to a home run!!

Giddyup!!

Nice start and good vibes to the NYY

Yeah....right now I am wishing this thread made its way to page 2 or 3. The Yanks are currently enjoying a nice ass-whipping.

All of you Yankee bashers have fun while you can.

Mark my words.

The Yanks will not lose another game the reast of the postseason.

And you can take that to the bank.

Pretty much need more than three hits over 11 innings to win a ballgame, Yanks.

Eight hits in two games. Wow. That's a major-league outage alright.

I'm not a basher. I'm a Yankee fan. And these are facts.
Needless to say, they're gonna have to do better. And even if they do the best they can possibly do they're going to face the pitching they couldn't hit off again.

Nice work, God, on that plague you sent to stop Joba and the Yanks tonight. Of course they had no business winning that game or any the way they're playing right now. Looking at their terrible bullpen, decrepit starting pitching and lineup, you have to acknowledge the simple truth that they're not half the team the Indians are. They are lucky to be anywhere near the playoffs this year, but their luck is up (with a little help from the man upstairs).

My Jealous Met's Fan friend,

You speak of decrepit starting pitching. Except Mr. Petitte pitched nearly 7 innings of shutout ball. We will see what Clemmens and Messina can do. What happened to Chamberlain was a fluke. He didn't even give up a hit and only 1 walk. Two bizarre wild pitches that can obviously be attributed to a loss of composure due to that bizarre infestation of bugs. Even with that, he managed to get out of the inning with just the one run.

Now the real culprit? The Yankees crappy lineup. I don't know how many years now I have had this same lament but this lineup just does not come up big in the post season. Now understand that the Dynasty team usually did not pound the ball either, especially in the World Series. But they had a predilection for coming up with huge hits at important times. Besides the obvious Derek Jeter we had lots of clutch players who had huge hits. I remember in 1996, when the Yanks had like NO margin for error, Joe Girardi who hit like 230 that year had a huge triple and scored the Yankees only run in the 1-0 Shutout Pettitte won. Jim Leyritz had a number of huge homeruns. Luis Sojo had a couple of huge at bats. The Yankees found a way. Since the retirement of Paul O'Neill and the departure of Scott Brosius and Tino Martinez after the Yanks came within an out of winning the 2001 Series, the players who have arrived just don't seem to get it done. Obviously it is not A-Rod's fault alone that the team can't score runs. But my God, the guy had one of the great regular seasons of all time and in a game where a single big hit would have meant the difference after a monster pitching performance by Petitte, A-Rod didn't even make contact. He struck out three times. I don't know what's wrong with him but he seems to lack either the will or mental ability to make adjustments against the games top pitchers in these situations. Why is he going for these big looping swings when a simple Texas Leaguer would win the game? He's supremely talented but I don't think he's mentally tough and I don't think he's that smart a player. Give me Paul O'Neill anyday. That guy knew how to have a post season at bat. I know they would not have made the wold card without him, but I am convinced they will never win the world series if their superstar cleanup hitter is seen by the opposition as a relatively easy out. ALex should have at least gotten his bat on the ball in the 9th inning. No excuse to strike out there.

Doug
