Ron Paul raised a 'jaw-dropping' $5.1M in 3Q

Republican Rep. Ron Paul's presidential campaign announced today it raised $5.1 million in the third quarter -- news that seems to have stunned our friends at ABC News' Political Radar blog, which calls Paul's haul "jaw-dropping."

"It puts Paul in the same fundraising neighborhood as top-tier Republican candidates like Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.," Political Radar notes.

In the latest Gallup Poll of Republicans, Paul's support stood at 4% -- equal to that of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.

Update at 4:05 p.m. ET: The Politico's Jeanne Cummings writes today about the big overall advantage Democrats have had so far in the fundraising sweepstakes.

The demeaning attitude that the media has for Ron is so obvious. Even his fellow Republicans - especially Giuliani - make fun of the guy. Following one of the debates where Ron and Rudy got into it a bit (and once again Ron was right and Giuliani was clueless), Rudy said to the Fox news interviewer; " we should have a special debate where Ron Paul and Mike Gravel get a hour to tell us all their wacky ideas". Yeah, all those wacky things like returning to constitutional government, stopping the cycle of bought-and-paid-for politicians - all those kooky ideas.

Good for Ron, maybe he'll finally get first-tier notice. He's the only one of the Republicans talking about the right things.

I was impressed with Ron Paul when he appeared on Bill Maher's show several months ago. Huckabee as well. Both men received a great deal of applause for their comments about a great many things. As a Republican, I'm rooting for either one of these guys. Unfortunately, the conservatives and the media will never let it happen, I'm afraid.

they count on disenchantment as well as diverting attention elsewhere... so don't let it discourage you from supporting those you feel are right for the job...

Ron Paul is the only hope I see for a free and democratic society in America this century. I do not agree with everything he says, but giving power back to the states and reducing the Fed Gov. is key to me. It is a hell of alot easier to move to a different state than a different country if the your government doesn't respresent you. He is the only politician I have every seen who actually cares about regular old americans first. Go Ron Go!!!
