My hotel for Piedmont Park is close to the Perimeter Mall and the Marta park and ride. I will check some of this out when I am there on Friday.

If you smoke, dont smoke outside on your Hotel balcony. $ 250.00 fine.

We stayed at the Renasiance near the Fox Theater last New Years Eve. The view was awesome.
I remember the lightning striking the towers North west of town. Its a great town. Have fun.

If you like er, um, adult entertainment, I am told we have some of the best. It was my evil twin that told me this.

I'm making a vacation out of it. Leaving from Austin on 9/1 and staying until 9/9. I'll have time for the whole list!

If you are in Buckhead, the best hole-in-the-wall bar is Mike n Angelos.
Good place and, if you are a smoker, you are allowed to in here.
My understanding is that the Buckhead area bars will not be there much longer. It is all turning into a high end shopping strips.
Go play in Buckhead while you still can.

I'm new in town, but have stopped by a joint called the Euclid Avenue Yacht Club a couple of times, folks in there seemed to be enjoying themselves, and there's that concert venue I'm dying to check out just down the street...(the name escapes me now)

Dont bother now, Buckhead is virtually nothing more than boarded up bars and clubs, which are all about to be razed in order to re-do the whole hood. Buckhead is pretty much avoidable now, nothing there to do to be honest.

No no no, ignore all these things. Go to Virgiinia-Highland neighborhood, (where I live, Im a little biased) and go to Moe's N Joe's (im a regular, Im a little biased) and sit on the patio and drink bitchers of PBR for 6 bucks. And watch all the eye candy. Then go to Murphy's for Brunch, if you can get in. And when your done, swing by my house right behind Murphys for a beer on my front porch, the best front porch in all of the city...

Please PM me a map to your front porch. I plan to enjoy a beer on it Oct 13th.

Actually, there are still fun places to go out in Buckhead (area being redeveloped is only a 5 block area of the Buckhead Village on one side of Peachtree Road specifically). However, if I was visiting Atlanta and looking for nightlife, I'd go out in Midtown or Virginia Highlands.

If you are in town for a number of days, two great small music venues are Smith's Ole Bar (not too far from Piedmont Park in Morningside area) and Blind Willie's in the heart of Va Highlands. If you can find a night that Francine Reed is peforming, don't miss it!

The Variety is a great venue. Glad you found the Yacht Club, great place.

Other L5P places of interest: Across from Wax-n-Fax records is The Star Bar, home of the redneck underground. Great rock & roll bar/club in an old bank, with the one and only Elvis Shrine in the vault. A must see. Don't forget to go downstairs and check out the jukebox.

The pub on the corner used to be the famed Little 5 Points Pub, home to many great shows of all types from the 80's to mid-90's. Col. Bruce & the ARU, WSP, BT, etc, all played there frequently. In the middle of the floor by the waiters' stand is a stairwell down to the old "green room". The stage used to be where the garage door is now.

great burgers and beers on tap at The Vortex, and tater tots : )

if you're looking for the real bohemian area, head south down Moreland from L5P, just across I-20 you'll turn left onto McPherson and a quick right onto Flat Shoals Rd. You will run into another intersection of 5 streets: East Atlanta is the neighborhood. Lots of good bars, food, and stores.

As for Buckhead, there are still some classic bars there, you just didn't notice them before. The Pool Hall & The 5 Paces Inn are across the street from each other, around the corner from the Roxy. The Pool Hall (open since the 40's) is hosting the Friday nite shows prior to the ABB Piedmont park gig. I think they may be outside or something now, right?

Unfortunately Mike and Angelo's is now closed...RIP. That said it was never the same after the original management sold it a couple of years ago. I do miss my old stomping grounds.
