I'm going to Crescent Beach today. What should I take with me? 461 Ocean Blvd is a given. Some feel-good Tom Petty (he's had a place there for years). What do you like to listen to when you go to the beach or the lake or your local watering hole?

For some reason Bob Marley's music always sounds good at the beach.

I remember taking the bus down to the beach all the time when I was in 8th grade with my friends. We had a little cassete radio and would play CCR - Chronicles that entire summer. That was some great summer music. Travelin Band, Up around the Bend, Sweet Hitchhiker, Down on the Corner, the list goes on and on.......

Beach music to me is Bob Marley, the ABB of course, the Dead, Little Feat etc..

Since I'm meeting my daughter there, who is carrying my grandchild, Derek and the Dominos and ABB 3/21/05 is a must (if it's a girl, she's naming her Layla).

I don't have any reggae Maybe Al Green will do instead...

I'd have to agree with Bob Marley, Tom Petty, The ABB, and CCR, definitely

I'm also a fan of Skynyrd.

I'm going to the beach Monday so i need to get my music together too!

Most definely. As a matter of fact you might want to take a collection of classic '60 style "soul music" with you. Otis, Aretha, Sam and Dave, well you get the picture. btw Van Morrison is another good one.

I ended up grabbing Brothers and Sisters, Skynyrd's Second Helping, Petty's Wildflowers and CCR's Chronicles. It starting raining about an hour after we got there, so somehow I ended up listening to Dylan's Love and Theft on the way home. My music is so disorganized, in stacks all over the house and in the truck, that it's always a surprise what I find. Now I'm looking for the effing Dixie Chicks. Might have to settle for some Dixie Chicken instead...

This may be my favorite Dylan record .

Charlesinator and reneed,

Oh yeah, I love "beach music". Grew up on it. But why didn't y'all mention my favorite "Beach band", Bill Deal and the Rondells. I would love for the ABB to do a cover of "May I". Bet they could rock it out.

This is my first summer in about 20 years without beer I almost started drooling on the way over to the beach, but I just always tell myself "don't have time for a drunk today," and so far, so good (7 months sober). Today, I'll cross another milestone: I'm boiling green peanuts. Then, there's football season...arghhh. But, by then, I'll have a sober hurricane season under my belt, so I'll be that much stronger.
