Hey everyone! I was just curious to know if any of the Allman Bros use guitars made by Martin?

Don't think so.

Gregg has an endorsement deal with Washburn

Warren with Gibson and his acoustic is a Alverez I believe.

Never Seen Derek with an Acoustic Guitar.

I forget what it was , possibly a Washburn, but you can see derek play acoustic on the Beacon dvd. Him and Warren play Old Friend for the bonus track.

Actually there is a picture (somewhere on this site) of Derek playing an HD-28.

Didn't Dickey play a Martin for some of the acoustic sets with the ABB? I seem to recall Dickey and Derek playing Martins when they played together acoustically. Musta been Beacon 2000, I guess. I think that was a much shorter acoustic set, like 2 or 3 tunes, compared to the Dickey/Jackie P. era when they would play 5 or so songs acoustically.

I think Derek used a martine on the last track on Soul Serenade. Washburn on the Beacon. Warren plays a Gibson on the Beacon.

During the studio rehearsal section of the Brothers of the Road DVD, I believe Gregg is playing a Martin during his performance of Come and Go Blues. To me, it looks like a Martin D-35 since it has the white binding around the fingerboard. In addition, it seems Dickey may have been using a Martin during the performance of Melissa on the Brothers of the Road DVD.

On the Beacon DVD Derek is playing a Yairi Alvarez Artist & Warren is playing a Gibson Songwriter. Gregg plays a Doyle Dykes signature Taylor (he used to play a black one but now he plays a blonde). You can tell it's a Doyle Dykes by the rose on the headstock.

And there is a recent picture of Warren playing a 000-28 EC from pbase.com:

Also, the pictures Rusty was talking about & the one above where Derek is playing with Amaan Ali Bangash, Ayaan Ali Bangash & Sandeep is a Santa Cruz (possibly a Tony Rice signature model but is hard to tell because of the distance. But Tony Rice's sig Santa Cruz has a bigger sound hole, like his Clarence WHite Martin).

In Brothers of the Road Dickey, Gregg & Dan are all playing Martin Shneandoahs. They are from the period when Martin started to make Sigma & they are thought of as inferior to the ones that came before & after. They look to be D-28's, not HD-28's- which have the herringbone binding & rosette. During Melissa Gregg is also playing a 12-string Washburn that I believe pre-dates his signature Washburn. And in case anyone was wondering this Dickey plays an Ibanez Les Paul double cutaway in the hotel room footage.

Peace~!

Derek playing a Martin HD-28

Martin HD-28

I'm sure he's got a house full of guitars, but it seems that he does have a Martin!

Gregg has Martins. He's played them for years. I even have a live radio recording of Gregg and Dan Toler doing an acoustic set before a show. They both talk about the Martins...CF Martins.

Hey Rusty. Derek is not playing an HD 28 in that pic. It's a Santa Cruz. The inlay at the 12th fret is the tell tale sign. Another noticeable sign is the shape of the bridge. That is not a Martin bridge. However it is modeled after an D 28, as Santa Cruz is known for making exceptional pre-war Martin era replicas. That is also the same guitar he played at that all-Indian music show pictured above.

Back in the day it was the only acoustic to have for a serious musician.

Hey Slowhand - my bad! I've never seen a Santa Cruz before. Looks like they were influenced by Martin, though! That's a damn-near "law-suit" copy if you ask me!

Rusty, I knew you wouldn't pass up an opportunity to show off your guitfiddle! Too bad you couldn't get those two pics side by side so that it looks like Warren is gesturing you to play a tune with him.

Are you sure that's not an OM-28GE (Golden Era)? I have a D-28GE, and the signed label inside looks very similar. In any case, they're virtually the same, if it's an EC Brazilian model. Tom

One of the analysts our office works with travelled from NYC to Nashville last week to buy a 1939 Martin as an investment. I don't know what he paid, other than it was "over $25K." He compares it to beachfront property and is advising clients to buy collectibles like this.

I am not too familiar with Annie Allman. Looked at her Savannah store website and I can see what might be a family resemblance to Gregg. If she is a first cousin, then was her father a brother of Duane & Gregg's late dad? The new Blueridge guitars I looked at on Annie's website actually seem a little high priced compared to other vendors.

OM's have a tear drop shaped pickguard, like this OM28V:

The one Warren is playing has a "highly figured" tortoise shell pickguard that is standard on EC 000-28's. Also there is an inlay of Clapton's signature at the highest fret just above the soundhole.

Finally the tuning keys are Waverly old style open backed butterbean tuners, & the inlay pattern is replicate to pre-War 000-28's diamond pattern.
