As I spend quality time with friends made here at the Beacon, Oak Mtn. Boogie McCain's, wherever, as I watch the CMT special, as I read Willie Perkins' book, watch the Tom Dowd DVD, I've become more and more mindful of the special set of circumstances that caused all this to be. In watching the documentaries, reading the books, and, especially, talking with some of the "old-timers" that were there, it becomes more and more clear that the joy we have lived through this music, and the friends it has brought to our lives, has its roots in a decision made by a young man so many years ago, to walk away from a recording contract and a lucrative studio career, to spurn an offer from the most popular music star of his time to join his band, and to instead follow his heart, put together his band, play music his band wanted to play, in the way they chose to play it, take to the road in grueling tours of gyms, armories, small venues night after night, playing unconventional music to all who chose to listen. And it has made all the difference.

Countless careers as musicians and recording industry personnel came to be, and indeed continue to come to be. Countless lives were enriched by the music that evolved from this descision, and indeed continue to be enriched. And lifelong friendships have been made, and indeed continue to be made, among people that would have never met except through the music of his band.

This year, on October 29, in my town, many of those who owe their careers to the young man's decision, and many who have become friends because of the music of his band, will gather to again celebrate the life and legacy of Duane Allman. Please join us.

Brent Sibley and myself, in conjunction with Boogie McCain's Music Hall owner Carl Weaver and his associate Mr. Johnny Sandlin, are pleased to announce the 2005 Jam for Duane.
Boogie McCain's will be the host venue this year. At this time we can confirm the following supporting events: Appearing on both October 27 and 28 at Boogie's will be the Cowboy reunion featuring the Capricorn rhythm section with special guest Lee Roy Parnell.
The lineup includes Tommy Talton, Scott Boyer, Bill Stewart, Paul Hornsby, Johnny Sandlin, and of course Mr. Parnell. Also on the bill both nights will be the Zillionaires, featuring Brent Sibley, and the Getaway Cars, featuring Tommy Talton. All of the above are expected for the Jam on the 29th, with Brent's full band, the Skydogs, hosting.

The Jam for Duane will be from 1PM to 1AM at Boogie McCain's. Amateur and professional musicians welcome (ABB and related music only, please) as well as all fans. Boogie's is a BYOB venue,
coolers and picnic baskets welcome. Videotaping and recording are permitted (at the Jam only). As always, the Jam is a free event. Tips will be received by those providing ice and setups, cleaning up after us, providing lights, sound, etc.

Hosting the bands will be the Gadsden Inn & Suites, and they have graciously provided a block of discounted rooms for attendees for Oct. 27,28,29. Reservations can be made at 256 543 7240. Mention the Jam for Duane when you call to receive the discount. It is not necessary to reserve for all 3 days. Tickets for the 27th and 28th will be available online from Boogie's at a later date.

Also, in conjunction with the Jam, Grinderswitch will be appearing at Boogie's on Oct. 8.

Discussions are ongoing with several other artists, and other venues in the area have expressed an interest in being included. We have access to a city trolley for free transportation between venues. We hope to make this a month-long celebration.
More announcements as they evolve.

Randy, You could not have chosen more beautiful words to express what's in your heart, to explain why we are all one, and to invite everyone to gather for a very important reason.

I've chosen to go back to school for a mid-life career change and I won't be able to attend. This is very sad for me since this is reallly the only opportunity for us all to join together, in person, to celebrate a beautiful man who would have never believed that thousands and thousands would come together to celebrate his music and his life so many, many years after he was set free from this plane of existance.

So, I ask all of my new, wonderful friends, when, Cowboy sings Please Be With Me, send me your vibes and I'll be with you.

People can you feel it, love is everywhere!

Lee, Jeanne, Bobo, Karen, Elagrua,
thanks for the kind words, hope to see you soon.

Elizabeth, you will be missed. Hope the new career goes well. Is Mr. Perkins still coming? We would love to have all the surviving Fillmore roadies together again.

Randy, I sent Willie a copy of your post encouraging him to go. It was great to see Kim and Callahan in Macon a few weeks ago at Buffalo's memorial service. It was a bittersweet reunion for those guys. Twigg's brothers AJ and Scoots also attended and it was really nice to meet them. Judi, Joe Dan's wife also spread his ashes along with Buff's.

Anybody know where Tuffy is?

Will both Kim and Callahan attend? Big question is "can we get the Dog to show"?

Are the Hittin the Note folks coming along? That might be another incentive.

Hope you are well. Love from Elizabeth

Bill Ector and Gregg Potter ran a HTN table last year, I believe there was a conflict in Fla. where some of the guys went. You can never avoid all those things. I understand some folks in Tampa may be doing a little encouraging. Kim Payne was here last year.

Randy,

My eyes got wet reading the first two paragraphs. Thoughtful words from a wise man.

We will be in Gadsden for JFD and I will pack a couple of handkerchiefs. Gonna be a sad and happy time.

We know how to get in touch with Tuffy but not so sure he would be able to attend. The invite will be extended though.

You keep working on Willie from your end Elizabeth and I will work on it from the other connection or two, lol...he will give in eventually!

This will be my first JFD I am able to make it to, and it is during my 2 week birthday trip to B'ama!

Bluedad, no handkerchiefs needed. This is a celebration--nothing morbid. Enough funerals going on these days anyway. Bring your guitar, you'll be teeing it up with some of these guys.

Pam, if the opportunity comes, could you please let JJ know? Brent has been in touch with the Almosbro. Looking forward to seeing you again. I bet you have a happy birthday. Ron, looking forward to having you in my town.

I've had some questions as to the layout of the venue. There are quite a few pictures on Lefty's site, and some good ones here under Offstage. They're in the process of downsizing the large lunchroom-type tables, for Jam day itself many of them will be folded up, replaced by chairs. There's always an open area in front of the stage, there's a long church pew-type bench down the far side. At the back, there's a bar with stools that came from Jack Lemmon's house.

lefty, I'd recommend the statues of Brent and Randy be placed in the Arthur Green room. Randy, it sounds like a heck of a time already. I know Ray is itching to go. However, I may have something pressing. We'll see.
