The Youngbloods, Jesse Colin Young

The Youngbloods did indeed perform the most popular version of "Get Together" but Jesse did not write the song.

Clues: The name of the author of "Get Together" is not the same as the singer of the band in question. After penning a couple of hits, he adopted a stage name and went on to front this popular band, well known in the rock world. This band was never wildly successful, only had one Billboard hit at #49, but they are recognized as one of the original creators of a certain genre of rock.

Bonus points for naming the rock genre, and honorable mention for naming the specific school of said rock genre.

Excellent . . . you clearly know, but wait . . .don't say the group name - your answer should make it as obvious as possible without revealing it outright.

SO back to our panel . . . the studio audience and call ins have practically given it away : What is the name of the band?

Sure ! I "haight" to tell ya but two of em might leave you lost in Golden Gate Park until 1987. Drop em in that coffee cup , ask the waitress to "fill more",
add some half and half watch the galaxy swirl at the Cosmo Diner

and "Have Another Hit, Of Fresh Air"

:::wife runs up on stage and kisses me, we both jump and down and clap:::

do I pick the next question?

This band was named after a temperance union. It had 2 different formations - the Leader, Singer/songwriter for the 1st 2 albums (and their biggest hit) had to leave and do community service because he was a conscientious objector during the VietNam war. They were around for a while, maybe longer.
The band for the next few albums had 2 guitar players, pedal steel, bass, and drums. They were pickin' to beat the devil and offered to fix the flat tire of a famous country singer.

The premise was supposed to be the "correct& answer got to do the next question. So there were not multiple questions at one time. If folks are kewl with it and having fun, let's roll with it.

I had a two pack of correct replys, so I'm gonna toss one out on the playground.

1 member of a top 70's band
1 member of a top 80's band
The band name more akin to a 60's TV show
