Interesting read. 2014 op-ed by Professor Carol Anderson on the racial divide, after Ferguson:

And her follow up 2016 bestseller "White Rage":

Her latest op-ed Oct 2019 re impeachment:

The accompanying crickets show that this is a subject the “libertarians” don’t want to touch with a 20ft pole.

I have read a lot of her op-Ed’s and find myself nodding in an agreeable fashion quote a bit. I bought White Rage for a friend, still waiting for her to finish it and let me read it. I’m ready to fold and just get my own copy

Rage is colorblind. Trump is just pouring gasoline on the fire, like the domestic terrorist he is.

Loaning books is a risk. Have had some great ones borrowed forever. Or returned beat up and covered with motor oil. White Rage is worth a look. It is more like a summary of a lot of events and eras that merit more interest, such as Reconstruction.

btw, nice work starving the troll, gentlemen.

As with any addiction, the rageaholic is unaware of the problem. While she addresses the historical, economic, and cultural aspects of White Rage, one angle Anderson does not cover is the actual addiction to adrenaline generated by rage - and how a skilled manipulator can be a pusher of this drug. To understand White Rage I found it helpful to read up on rageaholics:

Does any of the following seem familiar?

"While volunteering with SMART Recovery San Francisco as a group leader, I learned to view rageaholism as a frequent or habitual rage state brought about by irrational thinking. The rageaholic could be experiencing Low Frustration Tolerance, which is when an individual is demanding that life not present any frustrations. They lack the ability to think rationally about all the frustrations of daily life, for example, considering others’ point of view, or how things came to be this way over time (irrational thinking or “cognitive distortions” are discussed in depth in the book Feeling Good by David Burns).

The kind of irrational thinking that forms most of the core of the problem are demands – the individual believes reality SHOULD or MUST be how they DEMAND or PRESCRIBE it, and they go crazy with anger if it is not. Also called “musterbating,” or thinking in terms of “musts”, this is a psychological condition explored in depth by Albert Ellis who developed the cognitive therapy “REBT” (rational emotive behavior therapy, the basis for SMART recovery). Thus we can see that the rageaholic has an exaggerated sense of what they have a right to; they have problems being demanding and self-centered."

Typical Rump apologist. No arguments in terms of justifiably defending the s***** behavior of our commander in chump and his dip**** supporters other than “yeah, but you guys.......would Hilary be better?”

Who of us would have been Abolitionist back when slavery was legal? Who would have rejoiced in the capture of escaped blacks because "IT'S THE LAW" ?

Perfect analogy. I have used it before when right-wingers try to compare Trump to Obama. It would be similar to Democrats nominating Marianne Williamson this time around. The fact that he was ever taken seriously by anyone is just shocking.

Is it fair to judge the beliefs of yesteryear (Slavery) using today's mores?...

Is is possible..........That in to 50-100 years from now people will say... "I can't believe people stood by while children (Abortion) were killed?

Abolitionists were not guided by "todays mores".

Re the straw man abortion deflection, laws against abortion are a modern phenomenon started in the 19th century then locked in during the Victorian era. Abortion has been used by women in all cultures since the beginning of the human race and was not the province of men. So the ancient abiding "more" is women handle that and men are none the wiser - the meddling of men in women's private and personal health concerns is a product of "today's mores" .

So questions about racism leads to you bringing up abortion? Nice try.

How many years has it been since the Emancipation Proclamation? Some people(quite possibly you and your little club) are still pouting about the repercussions today.

The issue of "presentism" - the conceit of viewing history through todays lens - is a valid concern. However, accusations of presentism are all too often used as a subjective apologetic device.

Racism, by today's definition. At the time the country was divided on this issue, similar to today's polarizing attempts at discussing abortion.

Then content yourself with stating your views and spare us the hemhaw. You are against abortion, fine. You feel that slavery was justifiable in its time and place, fine.
