Trump calls the emolument clause of the Constitution "phony" - remember when Republicans used to revere the Constitution?

Trump tries to deflect from criticism of his pushing to have the G7 meet at hotel he owns by saying that Obama signed his book deal while president. That is a lie. Obama signed the deal when he was OUT of office.

Trump claimed that he is the only president who has passed on taking a salary. That is a lie. He is the THIRD. Hoover and JFK did it first.

It seems amazing that the leader of the free world would spit on our Constitution and lie in public twice in one day, but it's nothing new for this president. However, there is a logic to his attempts; it may provide some cover for the other messes he has created.

The ongoing investigation of his deals with Ukraine keeps revealing more secrets and lies, as with the two "businessmen" appearing in more and more photos with Giuliani.

His handling of Turkey and Syria seems to be playing more and more into Putin's hands.

His criticisms of General Mattis are only drawing more fire from military leaders who have actually served their country, with the result that people who actually respect the military are taking notice.

His demands that the whistleblower be publicly identified show more of his ignorance of our nation's laws.

Actual professionals who know their jobs are lining up to testify against him.

The list goes on. I am sure that at a rally somewhere, Don Jr is enjoying the adulation of a mob, but more serious Americans are looking at these facts and realizing that Trump is a con.

Great post, Jim.

Facts, but file it under sad but true. These examples should be of major concern to all Americans but will do little to change the minds of those who have hitched their wagons to someone who has no regard nor respect for our Constitution, laws, military, and allies.

And if the Dems run an open borders socialist ready to ban guns, internal combustion engines, oil, gasoline, introduce Medicare for all including undocumented border crossers, support sanctuary cities, high taxes and tons of new regulations and control over free market capitalism, ban domestic air travel and replace it with electric trains and run the cattle business out because they burp methane gas...then Trump is going to win again. Watch and see.

I had three men in my age group tell me at lunch today they would like to vote for Biden if he runs in the center but if its Sanders, Warren, Mayor Pete, Beta or Kamala then they will be forced to vote for four more years of the crazy world of Trump. They are pleased with Trump on the economy, unemployment numbers and taking on China but a lot of the time it's like having Ric Flair of the World Wrestling Federation threatening The Great Bolo before the Friday night matches at The Johnny Mack Brown High School.

Oh and they said some of the liberal socialists running as a Democrat want to take the tax exempt status away from the Catholic Church if they refuse to marry gay people. I think Beta may be the only one promising that.

I'm telling you if the Dems get to far into socialism and the social agenda of the far left, Trump is going to win again.

David Brooks wrote an op-ed piece in the NYT that said exactly that:

This is a memo for the politically homeless. It’s a memo to those of us who could never support Donald Trump but think the Bernie-Squad-Warren Democratic Party is sprinting too far left. It’s a memo built around the following question: If the general election campaign turns out to be Trump vs. Warren, what the heck are we supposed to do? The first thing we could do, of course, is pray for a miracle.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/17/opinion/trump-warren-2020.html?searchRes ultPosition=2

Brooks suggests that although Warren would be a bad option there's still respect for the constitution, Trump would be a suicidal one for the US. He concludes that the subtleties of preserving democracy wouldn't keep anyone's attention and Warren would lose. I agree. I wouldn't vote that way, but I can see why many Dems would at best stay home & hand Trump the win.

<<He concludes that the subtleties of preserving democracy wouldn't keep anyone's attention and Warren would lose>>

There may be some truth to that. Trump crafts simple messages that appeal to simple people.

"I will protect you from the hordes that want to take everything from you," he says while his family racks up gov't-approved business deals and the deficit spirals out of control.

"I will protect religion," says the man who has cheated on three wives very publicly and worships money.

"I support our military," says the draft-dodger who insulted Jim Mattis.

I could go on, but it's black humor. The Bermuda Triangle of Fox News, FM Talk Radio, and right wing websites have created a populace that can ignore the obvious contradictions in front of them.

Just curious, blackey. Reading your list in paragraph 1, I was wondering what your group of friends think of record deficits & trade tariffs initiated by Trump and the impact to American middle class citizens. Do they have any problems with Trump's violation with the Constitution and using the presidency as a personal cash register? Are they Ok with his ongoing deference to Putin, and turning his back on countries and individuals who have always been our allies? Are they fine with his destructive environmental actions? Are any any of these issues concerning, or are they OK just giving him a pass and concentrating on a list you posted - most of which probably won't come to be.

And now, he's added the message at his Dallas rally that expecting anyone to aspire to act much less be "presidential" is boring, robotic, and just silly - striking the heart of Dems' message that we need "grown-ups in the room."

Once an individual mind has been subsumed into the hive mind, there is no way to engage. It has become a reflex organ operating in a reptilian manner from the medulla oblongata. Any attempt to deprogram will either trigger defensive behavior, or if in danger of disconnection from the überbrain it will self destruct and take as many of the enemy along with it as it can.

I hope to God that police are arresting anyone caught threatening civil war in a social media post. They need to be persecuted just for posting it.

This is where the Overton Window takes effect. Civil war is criminal and unspeakable even in a free speech country, so any mention of it will be very abstract - but it is easy to read between the lines, same as it is easy to figure what would happen to you if the dog going insane in the parked car trying to kill you didn't have safety glass stopping it.

A MLB umpire tweeted today he's going to buy an AR15 and go to civil war if Trump is impeached...

So exactly where will this battle take place on the freeway in rush hour traffic...so people will give up their jobs to go fight for the buffoon.....amazing

What a bunch of boobs.....gullible is an understatement

Lol, what will happen and has happened is people get all fired up then have their own little personal apocalypse and disrupt an Ariana Grande concert or burn a black church or synagogue type of mania . Yeah, wasn't going to go there, but Civil War is a pretty ludicrous archaic concept in a modern high tech corporate world. The only real civil war would be if people stopped driving cars or refused to participate in the tech economy. As far as people in blue and gray, the place is diverse and spread out - civil war in any traditional sense is pretty much impossible.

There could be a civil war between Microsoft users and Apple users though - those are the only two clearly defined opposing forces right now.

There is no definition to the left-right political stuff, its just an ideological freefire at this point, nobody can win.

And that, my friends, is why we need better background checks to buy guns.

The 2007 Virginia Tech massacre - the 2016 killings at the Orlando nightclub - horrific 2017 shooting sprees at the Las Vegas concert & the church in SC - Columbine, Sandy Hook.....

After every mass murder, “better background checks to buy guns” have been called for
All the measures in the world won’t keep guns out of the hands of people who want to buy them, whether law abiding citizens, or the hateful paranoid Dylan Roof/Kip Kinkel/Catrina Costellos among us

The hope would be to keep trying to find ways to minimize these crimes - btw this is all being discussed in the POTUS thread

I agree, they aren't that bad.

Here is a little thought experiment to mull with your beverage of choice:

Imagine yourself ductaped to a chair in a lab. You are given a choice: Before you there are two people, each issued an assault rifle, a Negan® brand baseball bat, a 36" Stihl, and a variety of lesser implements such as electric cake mixers, steam irons, wooden soldier nutcrackers, turkey basters full of battery acid, light bulbs and hot sockets, and so on. Both have never played a note of music in their lives and are provided with Marshall stacks, volume and drive knobs torqued to 11 and busted off, as well as Dimebag Darrell Deans, and a huge stereo that only plays Billy Joel at paintpeel.

Now, one of these people is an avid staunch conservative, the other a bleeding heart liberal. You have no idea how extreme either is.

With me so far? Ok, now, the conservative has been told you are liberal as can be. Conversely the liberal has been told you are as conservative as can be.

Now: Both of these people have been sleep deprived for two weeks prior to the experiment, and kept on equal massive doses of meth, enough to make you aggro as hell and paranoid-schizo but not kill you. For the main test they are given megadoses of LSD and PCP.

There is no talking allowed, all parties tongues are immobilized with synthetic pufferfish venom.

At this point the scientist asks you, "Which of these two do you choose to be left alone in this lab with you for the next 72 hours?"

I will admit that neither is a wonderful prospect, but who would be more likely to go off on you?

Man I wish I could see a Ralph Steadman sketch of this scenario!
