I hope so too but if there's another surge, like there isn't one already...I doubt it.

Doesn't matter a whole lot to me. Patriots will go back to the old days now.

Something like 7-9.

But I'll watch...

Yee of little faith. Do you really think the Pats will have a losing record? If they play I'd say 10-6, maybe back into the playoffs.

The NFL thrives and contracts are supported by TV money, I think they will find a way to get their season in. Crowds or no crowds, masks only in the huddle, what ever. They will play the games, they will be televised, people will tune in, advertisers will pay, the show must go on.

There is a much better chance of NFL rather than college happening for several reasons.

But it is still going to be hard for a high contact close proximity sport to avoid outbreaks and spreading.

I would be surprised if college football happens, too many schools trying to figure out whether or not their campuses will be open. Big 10 already canceled non-conference games (Wisconsin-Notre Dame at Lambeau Field would have been pretty cool since Curly Lambeau was a Notre Dame alum and colored the Packers green/blue & gold). Maybe they will find a way, but there are so many other factors that the pros don't have to worry about.

Redskins officially retire the name. All it took was a lot of financial pressure.

Here's a run down of some of the possible names, and the trademark squatter who owns the rights

Oh so that explains it - that’s why so many upset skiers demanded a partial refund & didn’t enjoy the trails as much as they should’ve
B/c they were deeply offended
......what horseshit

“Squaw” in these tiptoe thru the tulips times, has now become a racial slur - derogatory toward Native American women, so the enlightened ones inform us

So Squaw Valley ski area, site of the memorable 1960 Winter Olympics - adored by multiple generations of skiers for its killer terrain - will soon be no more

Soon enough, to jump on the bandwagon & mayb get some free publicity out of it, Big Squaw Mtn in Maine will follow suit

Any Indian-related team picked its name Out Of Deep Respect To The Strength & Honor & Courageous Lives Of Their Native Forbears

Why the eff would a team choose a nickname to imply racial superiority over its mascot

HORSE- **** - that’s what polled fans/skiers would say imo

I can't imagine either pro or college football will be able to finish (maybe start?) a season.

Yeah I agree.

I am not sure what the purpose of the NBA and NHL firing it back up either. Money driven would be the only thing I could think of. I love sports, but they should just let those two go and call it a wash.

The football team in Washington will be known as.....

The Washington Football Team

Well, for the 2020 season until they can permanently rebrand.

I dig the simple, old-school uniform.

Meanwhile...

Next up, the Cleveland Naps
B/c just like in Wash, fans will be napping through all this BS - in front of their TVs, then at the park if they’re ever allowed back
As Nap Lajoie (Cleveland 1902-14, career .338 BA, 380 SB, 1,599 RBI) rolls in his grave

I take offense at the ‘skins’ new name - it’s not generic enough, they need to make it more nondescript, antiseptic, bland, so as not to offend their fans & so many others

Likely moot b/c they won’t play anyway, but if they do & fans are allowed, I just wanna hear “Redskins, Redskins, Redskins, Redskins!” at their games
The Washington effing Football Team - good Lord what is this country coming to

Who is next?

Let's see...

1) Dallas - Cowboys, killed Indians
2) Minnesota - Vikings, Raped, murdered and pillaged
3) Cleveland - Indians, say no more
4) Texas - Rangers, Racist cops

I'm also watching some NFL Films 1978 season highlights tonight.

Is there a better voice than John Facenda?

Talking about kickers in the '78 season:

"...the most traveled is Buffalo's Tom Dempsey. After 11 years you could take a map of the US and fire at it with a shotgun and most of the hits would cover the places he as worked"

The story of Tim Mazzetti!

quote:
Mazzetti had a short stint with Atlanta but made the most of it especially in his rookie season. He drilled 13-of-16 field goals, including a team record 11 in a row, as well as kicking 4 game-winning FGs. Mazzetti's biggest claim to fame came in a Monday Night Football defensive battle against the Los Angeles Rams on October 30, 1978. The Falcons edged the Rams 15-7 behind five Mazzetti field goals. MNF announcer Howard Cosell famously remarked, "This Philadelphia bartender won't need to mix scotch-and-waters any longer." Mazz's clutch kicking helped propel the Falcons to their first ever playoff appearance and in the wild card round, it was his kicking prowess which helped Atlanta edge Philadelphia 14-13. Mazzetti could never recreate his rookie season success however, connecting on just 13-of-25 field goals (52 percent) in 1979 while missing six extra points. His final NFL season he struggled again, sinking 70.4 percent of his kicks.

I love stuff like that buried in the history of the NFL.

I do not think season will start. Look at baseball after one week. Catching Covid could end your career with the after effects it causes, so I think some players will sit out the season. Some are already starting to say they will sit out the season.

Yeah I agree. I mentioned this before, I love sports just as much as everyone else, but I think they need to shut it down till this gets under control. Its gonna be a mess. I hope I am wrong though. I don't get restarting the NBA and NHL.
