Golden age and prewar baseball memorabilia is still huge. For one thing, there really isn't much in the way of pre-war football memorabilia, very limited...one tabacco issue of college football players in the mid-1890s, a 1935 football issue and two cards in the 1933 Goudy release. That is it. And the popularity of baseball in the golden years vs football makes the football stuff less sought after. It makes collecting football memorabilia a little easier in most ways, and more affordable. But it does mean there is less cool stuff out there....I mean 500 pages vs less than 100 for football. Baseball truly was and is king when it comes to vintage collectors. I have no idea what the hobby is like now, but I suspect football's national popularity for current players has overtaken the lead for collectors.

Totally agree with everything you say. Baseball has always been king with memorabilia. And as we've kind of discussed this is a great time to buy. Especially non-baseball sports. If I was just a collector I would definitely prefer to not be more of a baseball fan. Much better prices!

I do agree that collectables are going to be going down and items for sale could be showing up as people look to raise some cash. In some ways, these things are like investments, some of them at least.

Cleveland Browns are BACK! Well, at least their classic uniforms are. We'll see how that translates to what they do on the field, but at least they will look good.

If it happens, I doubt the season will start on-time in September. Either way, sports is going to look different. I think people will very slowly be returning to normal life, and spending money on sports won't be a luxury for as many people.

Collectibles are getting ready to take a huge hit. Wait for it. Six months from now I will wager most collectibles will be going for 50% of their current value. This will go for all collectibles, just not sports.

50% seems a bit extreme to me. And if you are correct, I think it depends on what the collectible is. I don't think something like that would be across the board.

And hey, if you are a buyer these are great times.

I am in the minority but I like the ones of the past few years with the lettering on the pants.

With the entertainment capitals of the US - LA & NYC - mayors saying no stadium-type concert or sports events until 2021, I'd say you're correct unless they go w/playing to an empty stadium for TV/streaming.

Oh man, I couldn't stand those. Especially since the Browns always had such a perfect, simple uniform from the start.

I don't think they'd play to empty stadiums, unless it is just to keep the brand alive. TV contracts are big, but they make money in those stadiums - parking, concessions, box seats, etc. Also, players aren't going to want to play a contact sport if COVID is still a risk. Eventually they will return and people will be eager to watch, but I wonder how much a ticket will cost when people have less money to spend on a day at the ball park.

The economic fallout of canceled major sporting events is just massive.

Yeah, totally. I imagine that is why so many people; owners, cities, municipalities, politicians, etc. are trying to do whatever they can do to get things up and running.

There are SO many people affected by this. Pretty sure the multi millionaires are going to be okay. But what about all of the other people that rely on sports? You could make quite a list of jobs and professions affected by this.

And all the ancillary industries.

Sure hope I don't have to change the title to NFL 2021.

I mean, the Lions are poised for greatness in 2020.

Has anyone read this article about the draft? Now one might think that everyone involved should have their IT departments on top of things but there are a lot of moving parts to this. I imagine it will only take one hiccup to start a snowball effect.

https://sports.yahoo.com/expectation-for-nf-ls-virtual-draft-someone-will-h ave-a-problem-005738746.html

I certainly hope it works out okay but I've been on a lot of these technology meetings over the past several weeks and unfortunately it can get messed up pretty quickly. Hope for the best!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about having IT on standby. It could get weird, as great as technology can be though.

Tampa Bay Patriots might have a pretty decent team now.

All they need is Edelman and Michel and they'll be all set.

BA I am sure is loving this even more now.
Not sure if it would happen, but a NE vs TB Super bowl would be pretty interesting.

This whole thing is so much like soap opera. So many articles about them. This one I found interesting.

https://sports.yahoo.com/rob-gronkowskis-nfl-return-says-it-all-the-patriot s-breakup-is-a-bill-belichick-story-053343943.html

For months and months we could read the geniuses (media) talking about why something like this would never happen because the Pats still owned the rights to Gronk. Well, they didn't really get much for him but I guess at least they were smart enough to get something.

When I came home today there was this lady coming towards me pushing one of those double side strollers with two little kids. She has a loud Pittsburgh Steelers sweater on. Looked at her mask and it looked like a Terrible Towel. I waited for her to pass me and sure enough, it was.

Looking forward to the draft tonight. Should be interesting. I want to see what the Lions can screw up.

Don't sell them short. They will figure out a way to screw it up.
