On my Fender Jazz Bass V Deluxe, which has active electronics, I play with the tone (High, Low and Mid) set flat, sometimes rolling out some of the highs if I have a problem with 60 cycle hum. I also set the pickup pan switch dead center to get the Jazz tone. If I want to fatten it up a little, I roll more of the neck pickup in. I try to control volume and EQ with the amp, and set the volume up on the guitar so I can roll some out if it's too loud on stage. It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

My tone...I play mainly through a Peavey Fury-6 string bass, I keep the bass all the way up, and mid all the way up to still get the bassy sound and still have clarity on the higher string! Learn everything u can, on you're instrument and all musical styles this will make u a better player no matter what the instrument!

Take Care
TM

Right now I'm using my Mexican Strat and my bro's Sunn T50C (until I pick up my Deluxe Reverb). I use a lot of distortion and a bunch of treble with a little bass. It sounds pretty Duane-esque.

Anyone have any suggestions on an affordable acoustic amp?
