Remember I said I was going to paint this pic?

I finished it on Saturday night...not a real good pic with the flash and texture paint is not very photo friendly, but here it is.

That's great, Pam! Oils or acrylic?

During our gigs Saturday night and last night, I dedicated "Elizabeth Reed" to Berry.

I usually play bass with my fingers, but for the last part of ER Saturday night, I played the signature parts with a pick, imagining it was Berry's tone coming out of my amp.

Got all choked up, but it was a sweet sadness from both his memory and the moving beauty of his bass lines.

Doc, I can dig it, man. I can't play nothing like B.O., but I am MOVED by his playing, and I'd rather listen to AFE or EAP that just about any other ABB recordings, mostly because of B.O., and of course, Duane.

Nice painting Pam. I think you captured the scene very well.
I wish I could draw and actually have it look like what I intended.

thank you for everyones well wishes & respect. this time of year is always hard for us, because we miss three wonderfull people. hollidays are a time for families and we have lost our best son, brother, dad (and his mother & father!). I've always kept dad in my heart...and margaret (gamie) and dad, ray (gampa). they certainly were the best grandparents ever! dad was very lucky to be a part of such a loving, spiritual, oakley family. back in the day (yes, I am saying that...wow-I am old!). family meant something and they were always together for every special occasion. ray (gampa) would pick up all of the relatives who did not drive (the oakley ladies) and make certain that all were together to celebrate the hollidays! pictures and stories I have seen & heard from candy & gampa are priceless...don't even have to hear about how much they loved and respected each other, you can see it in the photos! my gamie was so creative! she creatd beauty out of very little (early martha stewart!? yes, that amazing!) they best holidays I remember were the ones spent with them, one year gamie made me an artist's desk with everything I could possibly need to create my wildest imaginings (and I sure did!). I remember her patiently teaching me to read when I was wee-tiney...the story of ferdinand (the bull), the secret garden, the velveteen rabbit, all of the golden books, cat in the hat, fried green eggs & ham, etc...we would always read gampa to sleep! (ironically, I was still awake-but not for long!). pigs in blankets, noodles, steak & potatoe...I ate like a lil' piggie! believe me when I say, Oakley love is very strong! we mean it when we say...to those of you who have respect and are good people, THANK YOU!!! I am so proud of all of you who have purchased cookbooks and been resppectful to candy & buford (and god bless you ms. ann!!) y'all are the best!!! thank you. Brittany

That's a very sweet post Brittany -- it's true, some of the books you read as a kid remain some of the best you've ever read, regardless of one's age -- my copies of Look Out For Pirates, The Whales Go By, Bertram the Bad etc. are still around the house.
Echoing what you said about Ann Sandlin, and your Aunt Candace & Buford -- they're the do-ers -- I respect them greatly.
Always the best to you & yours.

Thinking of Berry today and my dear friend Kim Payne who I love very much. My heart is in Montgomery today as well as the kiss I left on Kim's bike on my way out from the JFD. I know he will go on a bike ride today and I wish I could be there but I can't so I left that kiss for a safe ride.

There is a picture on the wall in the living room at Kim's place of him and Berry sitting on the steps of the Big House on the early afternoon of 10/29/71. That picture is in my mind today...
I sure would like to see that picture. A moment frozen in time, who would have known what would happen later that day?
