Thread: Joe Biden’s running mate

Icepick - 6/30/2020 at 02:11 AM

I’m interested in knowing how the Democrat party can allow Joe the right to pick his own running mate. Does it not fly in the face of their woke culture that an old white man should have the unilateral decision to choose a “woman of color” as his subordinate? Excuse me, but this smacks of the very racist, sexist and white privilege against which the party so expressly rails against 24/7/365. Here is a man who has exhibited a lack of reverence to these fundamentals during his entire political career. This man should be toppled just as surely as any statue in the crosshairs of the culture terrorists at work in the republic.

2112 - 6/30/2020 at 02:24 AM

Yeah, how racist to choose a women of color to be a heartbeat away from being president. How dare he!

Thanks for the laugh man. That was funny!

Icepick - 6/30/2020 at 02:30 AM

Good that you can see the irony.

tcatanesi - 6/30/2020 at 01:12 PM

Biden/Duckworth 2020

Congresswoman, Senator, veteran, woman of color.

Rusty - 6/30/2020 at 01:57 PM

While I am 1000% sure that any person that Biden picks WILL BE qualified - his efforts and intent to pick a running mate based solely on gender and race do indeed smack of pandering. I'd like to say that I approve of Joe's pick, but I don't know who it is yet.

And please chill! I said I approve.

Nice ticket !

blackey - 6/30/2020 at 03:02 PM

Forced to pick a woman of color or a woman period is racist. Rice U students want the statue of old man Rice removed and a new dorm built for black students only. That too is racist.

You pick the MOST QUALIFIED person available regardless of.color or gender.

Colin Powell would be a better President than Elizabeth Warren who acts like a pissed off 4th grade school teacher.

Connie Rice who was in the Bush Administration or Susan Rice who was in the Onama Administration would be better than Biden.

Biden has been racists in the past. Proud to work with segregationist and praised KKK grand wizard Robert Byrd of West Virginia just for starters. Robert Byrd highway and statues being removed in West Virginia?

BrerRabbit - 6/30/2020 at 03:39 PM

Nothings perfect. Break an omelet gotta make a few eggs. I am enjoying watching the finale here as the Redhat chorus line does their final act.

blackey - 6/30/2020 at 04:54 PM

I DON'T WEAR A RED HAT OR WOULD I PUT A C FLAG ON ANYTHING. Ive never even held a C flag or sticker. I'm a moderate Democrat who can vote moderate Republican when I have too. I'm all for R. E. Lee and other C generals etc statues being removed but legally. Not mob violence. You don't break the law to bring change. But not Teddy Roosevelt or George Washington or changing the name of the District of Columbia. My mother was a Democrat and I voted democratic but was embarrassed that so many southern Democrats when I was a teen were damn racists and segregationist. Richard Russell, Robert Byrd, George Wallace...even LBJ in the 1950s.

BrerRabbit - 6/30/2020 at 05:16 PM

take a chill pill bill

if the redhat don't fit, don't wear it

Icepick - 6/30/2020 at 10:12 PM

Let’s not get too far off the plantation here. The question was about the process w/in the Democrat party allowing Joe to pick his subordinate. How does this not exemplify the “white supremacy” or “white privilege” that we hear so easily bantered about today? Trump is going to the Independence Day celebration @ Mt Rushmore and he’s chided for exemplifying white supremacy. What if the far left w/in the party doesn’t approve &:turns the convention into a shambles ala the 1968 convention? Oh, wait. Forgot that part about the Democrat convention this year. That will make that part mute I guess. I long for for those good old days of brokered conventions especially for the good ol’ Dems.

BrerRabbit - 6/30/2020 at 10:40 PM

Stephen - 6/30/2020 at 10:46 PM

It’s his naysayers/detractors’ job description
Chide - undermine - exaggerate - hide out>sling mud
Mt Rushmore? Heck they’d sh!t on hm for walking a little old lady across the street

Have tried to understand their reasons for hating him w/out letup - to no avail, for the most part

Want to see him re elected just to prove that all the insults/backstabbing/mpeachments/“arrest warrants” (what a joke), were hollow - easily seen through

Can’t call myself a ‘fan’ but fair is fair

It's 7:00 P.M. here on the East Coast. Time to wake up. You've been dreaming way too long. Reality awaits.

Stephen - 6/30/2020 at 11:40 PM

you’re right - I was dreaming, then got snapped out of it by a nightmare - Covid
So yep - time to face reality

Joe’s smiling grandfatherly countenance will endear him to many, w/big clarion calls from the media trumpeting his candidacy (no pun intended)

Will it translate to votes on Nov 3 - aye there’s the rub
The incumbent has his supporters too, they’re just not as loud, from where I sit anyway in my dreamscape, as his opponents

gina - 7/1/2020 at 01:31 AM

Biden and Hillary.

Biden and Michelle Obama.

Biden and Pelosi.

He will pick someone well known with appeal.

He could even do a Biden and Bernie ticket. Dems and socialists united.

Biden and Bill Clinton, couldn't Bill be a Veep?

Anything is possible.

Icepick - 7/1/2020 at 02:39 AM

This isn’t about who he will pick. My interest is in how the Democrats can allow this in light of recent events such as #metoo, blm & cancel culture movements. As an observer, he doesn’t have the cred of say Bill Clinton being the first black President or Obama’s sterling community organizational skills. Joe has never identified as a woman of color or walked in their shoes. How can he be given the latitude of even being considered capable of this monumental decision considering his original sins of being a white man.
Rusty made a passing observation of pandering but we all know that is a central tenant of the political game plan & career. Most other offerings have returned to the typical diversion tactics of “well Trump did or does or will so and so” So much is said of having conversations in this country but seems it is difficult to jump start. Call me crazy.

BrerRabbit - 7/1/2020 at 02:49 AM

Not one of your combos is remotely probable. "Anthing is possible", but the probablilities are .000000000000000000000001. Maybe I can add another hundred leading zeros.

kevdab - 7/1/2020 at 12:53 PM

I can't understand that Biden announced that he would pick black women as a running mate. Maybe a black women would be the best candidate. At least this eliminates Warren.
He should have announced that the best person for the job will be his running mate.
Tough decision. To beat bunker boy, he needs the Bernie supporters, and the republicans that put America over party.

I hear what you're saying. I just hope the audience doesn't call 'em back for an encore.

Stephen - 7/1/2020 at 02:20 PM

It’ll depend on what percentage of the audience is minions wearing red hats

Bernie would’ve brought in socialist votes, Hillary would’ve brought in votes from her effective 2016 run - we all saw Pelosi tear up Trump’s SOTUnion speech in Jan, calling it “a manifesto of mistruths”
They didn’t make the cut tho - understandably - all are of advanced ages, including the candidate & the incumbent as well

Whoever is selected for VP, am hoping he/she won’t be greeted w/a chorus of snickers/sneers/snarling sarcasm/smarmy smug snide cynicism/smear campaigns etc

I for one was fed up to here long ago w/all that - realize it’s politics

Bernie Sanders is a Castro loving old fool. And AOC is a young fool. Socialism is the WORST system. It solves nothing. And turns us into slaves of the state.

Sanders and AOC want the US to be a low energy socialist inner city society in our little government owned apartment buildings with ugly solar panels and windmills hanging all over the outside. You work at home on the internet or ride a electric bus to your little job. You may occasionally travel to visit out of town friends and relatives on a high speed electric train. We will grow our own food or buy it at the natural food store and go to jail if you are caught with an illegal Pepsi-Cola Made With Real Sugar. We are will live in a happy little commune type life, a village type life with no bad rich people but no homeless either.

The big bad Oil executives will spend the rest of their lives in jail and motorcar enthusiasts, motorcycle enthusiasts and airplane enthusiasts will be sent to reindoctrination camps.

The truth is FRACKING is the damn reason CO2 levels have peaked in America and nuclear power is the cleanest powerplant source. Huge power potential with no brown outs when the wind isn't blowing and the sun isn't shining.

This isn't about climate change at all. It's a political big government power grab and the destruction of capitalism and free enterprise. CO2 in Anerica peaked 5 years ago because of NATURAL GAS REPLACING MUCH OF THE COAL POWER PLANTS. But no these left wing socialists such as Sanders and AOC don't want anything but solar panels, wind turbines and vegan zombies.

Sang - 7/1/2020 at 04:43 PM

Yes, I guess we should just ignore the 100 degree temperatures they just recorded in the arctic. Ignoring problems seems to be the conservative way ... as exemplified by our "leader".

I like Susan Rice, Tammy Duckworth from Illinois would be a good choice too......

Brendan - 7/1/2020 at 04:54 PM

I'd agree that those are two strong choices. There ae a few others still viable. I'm hoping he scratches Warren.

Quite frankly I think it really doesn't matter at this point as Trump is imploding on a daily basis trying to hang onto "heritage" as he likes to say. Finally it seems America gets it.

Chain - 7/1/2020 at 09:09 PM

Things look bleak for Trump at the moment. But never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate. Nor it’s attention span. Trump could have a good week in late October and Biden have a bad one and all bets are off...Clinton had it and then the Comey bombshell. And we end up with the nit wit child man Trump...

Just wait until the Russians drop some unsubstantiated claim about Biden late in the game....We know it’s coming and most of us know it’s BS...But will those who claim to be over the Orangutan? The electorate is easily swayed....

For the life of me I don't understand how somebody can be against solar panels. I bought some for my home last year. It will pay for itself in 8 years. Huge savings. No downside. None! My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Clean free energy, and you are against that. Do you own a coal mine or something?

OriginalGoober - 7/2/2020 at 12:36 AM

Joe's running mate? thats pretty obvious to me:

BIGV - 7/7/2020 at 03:53 PM

Maybe Joe could choose Michael Bloomberg?

Wait, wait...wait!...Michael is neither a woman, nor is he a person of color. A few months ago he was the most Qualified!!!!!

But, why does that matter?

Stephen - 7/7/2020 at 05:00 PM

I hear ya, it’s nothing new, changes all the time - image usually has as much substance as credibility/qualifications in politics

It’s for sure (imo) that YOUTH will be factor 1 in the VP selection process

ANYTHING GOES
- that’s the overriding prevailing theme of this year’s election - hate to be a negative nellie but I think we’re looking at a quagmire - no precedence for any of it, including the combined ages of the 2 nominees - at 151 years, the oldest in our 244-year history to run - all ups to both

OK, wacky conspiracy thoughts going on.
What if it was decided that all other candidates dropped out of the running so Bumbling Biden could get elected.
He's already announced his choice of VP will be a woman of color.
I don't think there is anyone who hasn't commented on his lack of coherent speech and thoughts at various times.

What if Joe is just a figurehead, someone with the name recognition to get elected?

Will he be allowed to serve a term?

Will he within a year be adjudged unfit to hold office? Will he be forced to step down due to "health issues"?

Not saying this is going to happen, then again, it could.

Hey Stephen, Jerry & BIGV - good to see your input. But for the life of me, why has no one broached the premise of this post? How does the Democrat party let Biden pick his woman of color subordinate? It goes against everything they purport to stand for these days as outlined in their ideology. Is it too accurate for Democrat supporters to attack or just easier to divert attention to that which they despise or called “stale” because they feel it has already been answered in their own minds?Id like a thoughtful retort.

Bhawk - 7/7/2020 at 09:41 PM

Biden pledged to pick a woman as a running mate back in March during a debate.

"Woman of color," he did not pledge.

Sorry, you are right on that point.
He is reportedly being pressured to pick a "woman of color" .
I apologize for the confusion.

Icepick - 7/7/2020 at 10:03 PM

You’re right B’Hawk, and I did not say “pledged” (:I carefully reread my topic to see how that could be construed, not there ) I said “allowed to choose”. He’ll get crap no matter the outcome but I just don’t see how they let him in the current environment. Is hypocrisy too strong a word for it?

Jerry - 7/7/2020 at 10:19 PM

To quote Wikipedia: "Additionally, Biden has indicated that he will make his selection on the basis of shared political beliefs and past experience. He has noted that his selection will likely be younger than he is and that he will likely pick someone who is "ready to be President on Day 1."

Ready to be President on Day 1? Could my mental ramblings possibly be a vision of the future?
Could I actually be correct?

Probably not.

To good guys & longtime members in good standing Vince & cyclone88 - why not try letting bygones be bygones this time around - we all know the situation, the constant references to it are tiresome - his posts aren’t offensive imo

On topic it explains why the 3 VP finalists were female
Will we see the 2 Dem Pres & VP nominees grinning & waving triumphantly from the podium to the cheering throngs at the convention per custom
Or by zoom - playing to empty seats
DNC website says “anchored in Milwaukee, spread out across America”
am unsure what that means

Speaking for myself, I didn't have a problem w/the original Boyton Brother but he got himself banned a year ago for reasons about which I have no clue. Instead of following Rowland's policy & asking to return (get a new password, reset his membership, whatever), he tried to sneak in. It was obvious to most of us & he got called out within 2-3 days. That went on for a month - changing user names, disrupting threads, becoming increasingly agitated, and he told me to FOFF about a topic in a thread I started in which he wasn't doing anything but trolling. When someone else asked repeatedly if he was Boyton Brother or used one of his aliases - he lied. Rowland kicked him off for what he thought was the final time & we all got Rowland's Bad Behavior=ByeBye post on 6/29.

So, no, right this second, he's in his smarmy cozy phase, but something will trigger him & he'll be insulting & cursing - just like a troll. He ruined some interesting discussions in the past months. I made a nod to BigV that I recognized him, too. I've never had a problem w/anyone on this forum - disagree, yes but insult/curse, no - except the banned Muleman & the recent incarnations of Boyton Brother.

This is Rowland's forum & Rowland can put an end to it for all of us. I'd prefer for that not to happen. And I think it's borderline psychotic for some guy at a keyboard so desperate to be in a miniscule 50 yr old band forum that he'll lie 5 times w/in a month to get in & screw Rowland.

An excellent question. Thank you for opening the dialogue on it. I don't see it going against Democratic values, if you think about it from the perspective that Democrats are about equal opportunity for all. Women and minorities deserve voices at the highest levels so that our government mirrors the diversity of its people. Aside from Obama, no minority, including a woman, has ever held those seats. One part of the Democratic ideology is EEO, which Biden is seemingly trying to support. McCain deserves credit for doing it first, however. I don't think McCain or Biden, or Democratic voters see the Vice President position as a subordinate position, but rather a prestigious position of honor and power, 2nd only to the President.

McCain and Palin weren't the first. Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro were a team 34 years earlier.

Stephen, I appreciate you not wanting to make Boyton Brother's re-appearance an issue, but it IS an issue for all of us. He puts continued use of the forum at risk for all of us, when he gets into trolling mode he disrupts every thread that has a real conversation going, and any one of us can become his random target for insults & curses. When he gets called out, the moderators see. Today, he's gone.

That's not to say he won't be back in a day or two w/yet another username.
