This bad flare up was getting underway even before some of the most important protests of my lifetime, the protests for the police murder of George Floyd began. I was born in '63 and these protests are quite the most important societal movements in my life, I remember washing cars for McGovern in '72.
The situation You are seeing now is due to the fact that none of the states met any of guidelines to safely move forward, before going ahead and moving forward. WTF..................better Coverdown the best You can

Close contact crowds obviously pose a huge risk, outside helps I guess?

Do you have any stats on protest-fueled COVID flare ups? Because there are more cases brewing in packed Florida restaurants right now. But keep restating that one point you have, maybe it will stick.

MartinD28 - 6/20/2020 at 02:57 PM

Can we begin an advisory panel for the Trump Reelection Committee? We advise on locations for the next series of rallies. I'm thinking Arizona, Texas, and Florida are good starting points. Like Tulsa, Oklahoma - a rally should only be held in states and cities when & where numbers are rising.

If we can find controversial days on the calendar to coincide, that would even be better.

Not likely. The rise we're seeing now is the result of reopening without any real plans of how to do it safely. Look at the states with sharp increases, a lot of Southeastern coastal states where idiots started flocking to the beaches.
I'd be naive if I said I didn't think their could a handful of people contracting or spreading the virus at these large gatherings but to attribute the latest spikes in cases to protests is purely speculation from an angry member of the playground liberation front. As is usually the case, while trying to point out everyone elses hypocrisy he is just magnifying his own density.

While we do have an abundance of idiots, most of the flocking beachgoers are imported.

I too live in one of the Southeastern beach destination states, I see a good bit of both here. Local college bro idiots and imported college bro's. I was in downton Raleigh a couple nights ago, lots of packed outdoor seating at bars and restaurants.

I will thanks!...And you keep referencing that somehow a difficult situation makes it OK for protesters to gather in the streets in close proximity and march all while talking out of the other side of your mouth about the dangers of Covid19...

Too funny and right back at ya. Either Covid19 kills regardless of the scenario,.. protests, graduations, concerts or it does not. You can't argue stats or throw out the argument that to be against the rallys means you don't believe in the right to protest, while shaking your head and wondering why the infection rate is "About to blow Sky ****ing high"....Why is that so hared to comprehend?

Jerry - 6/22/2020 at 02:00 AM

I guess many forgot about the studies that show speaking loudly, yelling, and even singing broadcasts the virus more widely.
Place a large group together, chanting and yelling, many not wearing masks, carrying children on their shoulders, and see if the rate of infection doesn't go up.

Houston County has had a 2% increase since the protests started. Then again, we went out to a restaurant last Thursday, first since the lock-down started, and several days later the place was closed due to a positive test of an employee.

I have ordered some more masks, bought another box of gloves, still have plenty of hand sanitizer, but will buy more if the price is right.

Need to re-stock canned goods now.

stormyrider - 6/22/2020 at 02:05 AM

Surprisingly Minneapolis has not had a bump in cases
Why?
People were wearing masks
They were outside
I don’t think a bump was reported after demonstrations outside various state capitals either
And Btw no one ever said it was cool to protest without social distancing. All of the public health talking heads and many internet news sites also had info and warnings about protesting

Jerry - 6/22/2020 at 02:18 AM

Like I said, "see if the rate of infection doesn't go up".
What is the incubation period of Covid-19?

gina - 6/23/2020 at 12:19 AM

The states that are seeing increasing numbers did not look at the models. They were supposed to start much later than the east. But they just looked at our misery and felt good they seemingly were not getting it.

They will get it, there still are not enough ventilators, PPE etc. NY has balls, we had celebrities use their connections to get what we needed. How many of their Dr.'s even know that using a Hyperbaric oxygen chamber is a better way to get the oxygen saturation needed or any of the other new techniques used here, in Virginia, Atlanta and Washington state?

In short their victims are effed- and will die.

Am reading that Covid cases are continuing to skyrocket
That tells me that 3 months of a complete lockdown did nothing

My dad used to get sick from an allergy called hay fever - knocked him for a loop
Many people also get ill from the release of pollen in the air every spring

Both were seasonal things that passed
Covid-19 apparently isn’t - is the testing process monitored regularly? Could they be picking up symptoms of other maladies that cause tests that should be negative, positive? Is The Testing System Flawed?

So what happens now?
America is closed for business, having learned nothing from March-present
Let’s just not put her up for auction to the highest bidder, ie outside govts w/unAmerican ideas
That’s where we’re headed imho

Not sure what to do? Isolation, masks and distancing all work, take a look at New York State's curve, went up and came all the way back down, the Nation as a whole has gone up and stayed up, why? You gotta be committed I think? And I don't believe that most of us were?? Now what?..........self preservation I guess.......joe

Some states late to close and early to open.

Too many people thinking this is not that big a deal comparing it to the flu or believing it has been overstated. Too many people thinking it impairs their rights. Too many people thinking they are beyond catching this.

Too many people in denial by listening to a leader who hasn't led on this and who dragged on initial response and also basically saw this as a states' issue and dangled funds & PPE.

I'm afraid it gets worse before it gets better.

The stats speak for themselves. No amount of denials nor rhetoric can overcome the metrics. Unlike the president, you can't wish this away or wake up one morning and it will be gone.

Stephen - 6/24/2020 at 07:33 PM

High school, colleges, businesses, restaurants
Stuff like Broadway shows, college/pro sports, much-anticipated annual events, everywhere

The impact was huge around where I live, it took/is still taking a lot of adapting

May not have been as much so elsewhere, I certainly never read anything to that effect tho

Mayb “massive changes” instead of “complete lockdown” is the better way to put it - the effort was not negligible tho

If it was that, an effort that was “not even close” to a full-measure response, I only shudder to think of what further ones might entail

We didn't lockdown as Italy, China, or even Spain.

But, I digress.

Let's discuss "nothing."

Case ramped up, things got shutdown, the cases declined, open back up, cases back up.

So, the clear decline in cases was...nothing?

porkchopbob - 6/24/2020 at 08:25 PM

Every region had different responses to different infection rates at different times. Now we are seeing different attempts at reopening based on those responses. In some places it appears to be working, others not as much.

A friend of mine in Phoenix needs surgery on a condition affecting her lungs is moving to Atlanta because Arizona is currently getting slammed with cases and can't schedule her soon enough or guarantee a safe hospital for recovery.

Stephen - 6/24/2020 at 08:40 PM

You shut down, economy goes to hell but fewer positive test results
Open back up, trade/commerce reactivates - & so do positive results

To address your concern about “did nothing”
Most people have worn masks, stayed 6 feet apart, used hand sanitizer etc throughout this whole thing

CONUNDRUM
We “progressed” (shut down economy, stayed home, quarantined etc)
Now “regressed” (started to return to normalcy only to see test results go haywire)

Spin it any way you want, am just saying that IF these current test #s are accurate, the past 3 months have done nothing -
Because Nothing Can Be Done

Recent headline read “Covid 19 Has America On Its Knees”
That it does

stormyrider - 6/24/2020 at 08:46 PM

the states that re opened were not on the way down as they were opening. They didn't meet the CDC and WH recommended guidelines.
In NH and MA they waited for cases to go down before re opening. People are still wearing masks and being careful (for now).
Hopefully, we will have better results.

Indeed, they were opening the very next day after the federal guidelines were announced, of course they all opened right then without meeting ANY of the guidelines?? I know we look stupid Worldwide, but that's not the point, certainly Trump and his followers don't mind looking stupid, but the real problem is, 121,00 Americans are dead and a lot more of us are gonna be sick and die soon. More tests = More infections that are going to show up. Was it not both the W.H.O. & the C.D.C. who stated that you could be a carrier and not even be aware? So, which is it?...A killer?...or something that just shows up in tests continuing to be fodder for a media intent on scaring the Sh*t out of people. I believe we should be keeping our eyes on the mortality rate and when that % climbs to a number that is genuinely concerning and not the less than 1.4% nation wide, I will take notice.

We should do the same for police reports. If we do fewer police reports, there will be fewer crime cases. We should just see when the percent of people murdered climbs to a number that is genuinely concerning, and not less than 1.4% nationwide.

Typical hypocrisy when it come to which issues to address or not.

Little to no voter fraud? Let's institute strict voter ID.

We've been deporting illegal immigrants consistently for the past decade? Let's build an expensive WALL!

1.4% death rate by rapidly spreading virus? Nah, let's just do nothing and ignore probable solutions.

People protesting public health measures at capitol buildings without masks or social distancing? Cool, whatevs.

People protesting murderous police? Where is the social distancing!?

With Cult 45, it's never about solving problems, it's just arbitrary complaining.

Here are some of the same crazies opposing a public mask mandate here in south Florida, a mandate that would help businesses safetly remain re-open. But cases spiked here because people couldn't stay away from each or stopped wearing masks or thought the virus is a media hoax.

It's a different ballgame when it hits home.

Arizona is a perfect model of how Republicans hate precautionary measures against Covid-19. Governor Douchy told all cities to make up their own policies - you have to know AZ, every town that opted for no mask rules is red, every town that adopted mandatory masking is blue.

Okay, here's what we do: Assemble all the anti-maskers, the "deniers" ("it's JUST the flu!") and all of those who seem to feel that they have some sort of Divine right to assemble in mass in bars, restaurants and even churches. Line them up atop a very tall cliff and tell them that there's a mask-free party with free food and drink at the bottom. Give 'em all a friendly pat on the back just before their descent!

Sounds a little drastic, but it seems that the sooner these types are out of the picture - the sooner this whole episode will end.

Sardonic opinion, here.

No, not belittling Arizona, just the redneck towns that didn't mask up.

Oregon definitely has problems. In a recent post I stated that Oregon is the most racist state in the Union.

We have the same problem as Arizona, redneck morons scoffing off Covid precautions.

Two months ago Florida was asking NYers to self-quarantine. Now NY cases are trending downward, while FL cases go the opposite way after it attempted to re-open

And now this: Bars in Florida can no longer serve alcohol for 'on premises consumption'

FL just can't have nice things.

You still haven’t answered the question regarding whether or not you have factual evidence of this tired argument you’ve been clinging to (probably because you don’t).
I’ll take your bait though, no they are not on the same level. You continue to put looters and peaceful marchers in the same boat, looters are indeed selfish morons, you can call the marchers morons if you want but seeing as their marching for social equality I hardly see that as being as selfish as some conspiracy theorist that thinks the mask orders are assaults on their liberties.

Fair enough not a law, just an order.
Anyway, I already addressed that in page one, as usual you're too busy making the same statement over and over again to keep up with the thread or actually contribute any well thought out insight. I think we could see more cases related to protests and rallys but you are trying to blame the current increases on protestors when there is plenty of evidence that says you are dead wrong (gee whiz it's almost like you have some fundamental issue with what they are rallying for). People do provide answers to your so called clear inquiries, you just like to ignore them so you can keep repeating the same garbage incessantly all while ignoring very clear inquiries directed at you.

Anytime I go anywhere, well, since late February, I wear a mask and gloves.

When I get where I'm going I put on mask and gloves. When i get to my vehicle, I unlock the door and reach in for my bottle of hand sanitizer, two pumps on the gloves and wipe the door handle and keys. I then unmask and take off the gloves in the car/truck.

I'm a triple susceptible, diabetes, old, and the auto immune problems of RT, Degenerate disc/bone disease.
