Thread: Bobo

gotdrumz - 1/25/2020 at 01:32 PM

Just thinking bout him... with all the political B/S going on, I second his notion of"two sides of the same coin"

RIP Brother

BrerRabbit - 1/25/2020 at 07:20 PM

Nope. Two sides of the same coin works for a lot of things, but right now we have a rogue executive branch, double-headed cheating ruble. Not political bs, it is as serious as cancer.

BrerRabbit - 1/25/2020 at 07:53 PM

Nevermind - please disregard my last post - seems awkward to be mixing a heartfelt memorial thread with politics, pardon my rudeness. Exit . . . stage left!

You never know, he might have agreed with you.

gotdrumz - 1/26/2020 at 01:46 AM

Here is why this thread was made.

I recently went through some CDR's in my studio and came across the first "gifts" of music given to me when first joining this community back in 2003. (It had such a different vibe back then). The music was from Bob, Clay, and Kenny (Old Dirt Road). One of the past things I Remember Bob saying before he got sick was the "two sides of the same coin" reference to the political party system (replublican/democrat) of our country. It was specific to the lies, corruption and polarization done by politicians on both sides.

Perhaps it should've been posted in Anything Goes"? With the same B/S going on today, it made sad that something my friend said years ago has gotten so much worse today. This board has lost so much of it's heart and soul over the years. The diversity was the magic that made it sincere. Today it seems you get bumrushed for speaking against the status quo, There was once something "HERE" that vanished.

So as I sat and listened to Beacon show fromBobo, my smile was from the memory of his generosity & kindness and the way this community used to be. Sucks that people and politics sucked the joy out this place.

RIP Brother and thanks

well, if you're going to make this thread about how Bobo may have viewed today's political climate, here's my perspective. i've traded burned cd's with the same folks you mentioned from the same era, and mailed out dozens of my shows myself. yes, it was a different time back then, but not because of the "two sides of the same coin" - that's a disingenuous correlation. we all agree that all politicians in Washington are corrupt liars - that's nothing new - nobody is revealing anything. it's about the message that we stand behind. there is nothing normal about trump and his behavior. it is 100% dysfunctional and abnormal, and has absolutely nothing to do with Bobo's message about corruption and lies in Washington. Trump is a terrible role model for everyone, and he's intentionally destructive, and intentionally trying to poison the people with negativity and hostility. this has never been done before....ever. you guys on the right are all caught up in this straw argument strategy of equating lies and corruption in Washington with his daily hostile and maniacal behavior. nobody will argue that Democrats can be corrupt and lie like any other, but to say that are intentionally destructive and hostile like a terrorist, like Trump has been, is an outright lie.

gotdrumz, remember we've gone through this same thing several times and it works itself out. We have had people leave due to some of the infighting over the past 10 or 12 years A lot of them are missed and probably won't return. Some of us have stayed through the bad times. We have celebrated newcomers, weddings, significant milestones, and new family members.
We've also memorialized those that passed, suffered in prayerful hopes through sickness and disasters, some have even gone to help those we didn't know that suffered tragedies like Katrina, floods, and other natural disasters.
What is going on now will pass, Karma, which can sometimes be a bitch, will catch up.

Cheap shot. Trojan horse. Stealth right wing cloaked in a memorial thread so no one can argue. Clever. Kind of like a cake with a turd in it.

A comment about politics was made in "general" I made on distinction of any party, yet two came in their soapbox and started in on one particular politician. I swear, a thread titled, It is a wonderful day " could be posted and it mentions, I got up on the "right" side of the bed", and certain people would jump in to bash Trump cause "right" was typed in the text. Again another assuming it is a right wing thing? Look few posts above your own. Having all the info really helps.

I would humbly suggest that while the political discussions have been oft-cited as the reason for the demise of what once was around here, the Dickey threads, the dueling Guest Book posts, the will Dickey play the anniversary Beacon shows and the Fence Fund affair caused just as much or more damage as the political discussions, as well as some very determined agents over the years dedicated to causing as much general damage as possible, regardless of topic.

not buying this one bit either. to suggest that Trump and his behavior is an example of "two sides of the same coin", is to say it's normal politican stuff, which is completely disingenuous at best. to normalize Trump is a classic right-wing defense mechanism.

Amazing, where did I suggest Trump did or didn't do anything? You were the one that tossed the name into the discussion, not ke. So who is being disingenuous here? Has anyone inquired as to what my perspective is exactly onTrump, nope. So it appears all you psychics have me figured out,? Amazingly

One could post “Left Turn, by We Three” in the What Are You Listening To thread, & some of the resident pseudo-psychological geniuses would decode that into more of their blathering political garbage

Trump could walk a little old lady across the street, & all you’d hear here would be, look at em tryin to get his name in the headlines - we see it in their responses to a tragedy (Kobe Bryant), & the memory of a much-loved person here, Bobo

Hobo said what I quoted and I know exactly what he meant by it. He isn't t here to ask if it applies to what others have jumped on me about regarding any current politician. So why was it necessary for them to do so? Which leaves us with the question, "could I have framed the content of how a friend was remembered differently?" Sure, and I'll own up to that.

Thanks Brian (if memory serves me correct) If not, we still know who each other are
Have a great day

“One could post”???? No. It has everything to do with who it came from. the original poster has made numerous anti-liberal posts, and numerous pro-Trump posts, so because it was he who wrote the post, the responses are certainly understandable. I trust that gotdrumz has only fond memories of Bobo, as we all do, so we have a legitimate gripe that he used Bobo’s name. like he said, it was a poor way to make his point. You guys just hate being called out when you are wrong.

yeah, sure! Good one! He’d push an old lady to the ground if she was in his way.

Let’s just leave politics out of it when discussing our friends from the past. Then it won’t turn into anything controversial.

Why would you have to "own up to it"? You quoted Bobo with what I thought was an insight, not a political statement.

BrerRabbit - 1/28/2020 at 11:08 PM

The trouble was if you had any question with the "two sides of the same coin" idea, which I do, you end up looking like an @sswipe because you were going against a revered personality.

Here is some "garbage political blather": Right now I don't see what is happening in DC as "two sides of the same coin" at all - it is not even left vs right. This is all by itself. A rogue govt, a national emergency. The "all politicians suck so lets all be friends" thing does not apply.

Jerry - 1/29/2020 at 12:02 AM

Like I said earlier, Bobo might have agreed with you.
You explained in your post what you thought the post was about.
You then came back and kinda wiped clean.
Others though, just can't stop what they do.

Correct, now you get it. He didn’t have to, but he CHOSE do so - his choice, and his opinion that it could’ve been better. Sounds like you have an issue with gotdrumz. Maybe you should PM him about it so you can tell him how disappointed you are in his decision.
