I will definitely want to play in pick'em leagues.

I'm not too into fantasy football, but if you are short a player I will consider it.

LeglizHemp - 7/27/2018 at 01:36 AM

no prob dude, i'm guessing Dan B wants out too. but i'll wait to hear from him. but if i can't find another 2 players i'll just leave you in it and you can play or not play, LOL. i think last years winner didn't play a game.

porkchopbob - 7/27/2018 at 05:00 PM

July always seems way too early to start thinking about football. But then August hits and BOOM.

Hoping the Pack rebound after a frustrating 2017. Hopefully the failed Hundley experiment won't be repeated, and their new D coordinator shores up an under-performing unit. Should be fun to watch the Vikings implode with Cousins.

If anyone wants to get into a pick 'em league for $, let me know. It's pretty simple. Just pick the games against the spreads. You can see everybody's picks on their Yahoo site. It's usually just south of $200 for the season but it pays out every week. Win one week and you almost get your entry fee back. Several end of year winners based on your picks throughout the season.

cool Dan, we need one more guy to replace nebish

LeglizHemp - 7/29/2018 at 07:20 PM

Aug. 2, when the Chicago Bears will take on the Baltimore Ravens in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio -- assuming, you know, the field is in a playable condition.

Sang - 7/30/2018 at 06:13 PM

I don't have time for a fantasy league, but I would be happy to set up the pick em leagues again this year. Got an email from yahoo last week about them. It would be nice if we could get more people to play..... but as long as I beat DanB and Alan I am ok........

Sang - 8/30/2018 at 07:01 PM

The leagues have been set up. Like I said, I will be out of the country for 3 weeks, so I'm not sure if I will get my picks in.

ABBWP - no spread, drops lowest score - group 31943 password butch

ABBSpread - spreads, drops lowest score - group 31942 password gregg

We didn't have a lot of players last year, but they were all sent an email to join.

It would be great if we could get a few more website people to play ..... or invite your friends - the more the merrier..........

Sang - 8/30/2018 at 07:03 PM

If you are new to the league, just go to https://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/ and join a league - enter the group number and password above and you are in.

These are much less labor intensive than the college picks.....

I'm in Pick 'em against the spread. If coot gets in I'd like to bet him something. Perhaps if Kneebraska can beat Meeechigan?

Dumb question I know. I listen to the local talk station that covers em. Year round bowl fever.

I’ll join up.

nebish - 8/31/2018 at 07:50 PM

sckeys, if you want to play in the fantasy league I can turn my team over to you. It was an autodraft team, looks pretty good actually.

I'll play Tim if I am in something, I play. But I might just delete my team at the end of the year so it doesn't renew me again.

Yeah, Sang, thanks for reupping the leagues here. NFL picks are less labor intensive you may be right, but also much less fun.

Sang - 8/31/2018 at 09:46 PM

Not if you win..............

piacere - 9/1/2018 at 01:21 PM

Speaking of winning...listen up kids:

Patriots!

nebish - 9/4/2018 at 01:00 AM

The other link was taking me to a fantasy football sign up page.

Here is another link that directly goes to nfl pick'em leagues.

https://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem/register/joingroup

Let's go people it's football season!

LeglizHemp - 9/4/2018 at 01:35 AM

sorry nebish, but i didn't find a new guy for you. you have a pretty good team considering you had 1st pick.
i hope you don't play because dan has the best team, LOLOL

sckeys - 9/4/2018 at 01:49 AM

I was interested in the pick em game. I’ve never really done the fantasy games. Thanks tho.

nebish - 9/6/2018 at 12:46 AM

Tim you want to trade me one of your RBs for one of my WRs? Auto draft left me short on RBs.

jszfunk - 9/6/2018 at 10:18 AM

Will this thread be more about fantasy football or just general discussion about the NFL?
Did not know if another needed to be started just with general talk.

nebish - 9/6/2018 at 10:52 PM

Doubt there is enough traffic to support two threads.

Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles have been bet down to a pick'em at home tonight? Where those proud and loud Eagles fans at...y'all gonna lose this game after last year? Man Foles looked rough in preseason.

nebish - 9/6/2018 at 11:16 PM

Falcons now favored. No love for Philly...

I want to say I saw that Philly was favored by three at one point but maybe it wasn't quite that much. Now I see Atlanta by one so basically a pick 'em.

nebish - 9/6/2018 at 11:58 PM

I think a few weeks ago it was Philly -3 or even 4/5. Makes me nervous because I like ATL and generally don't like to be on the side moving the line.

nebish - 9/7/2018 at 11:18 PM

Not a very well played game last night.

Felt Atlanta was the better team on balance, Philly was the better team when it mattered most.

Hope the execution we see is better Sunday.

Lee - 9/10/2018 at 10:39 AM

The Bears. Bwa Ha Ha! Going to be fun living in Chicago this week!

BIGV - 9/10/2018 at 03:10 PM

How about that Saints defense?!

nebish - 9/10/2018 at 06:30 PM

Would hate it if a Saints fan, but I always like to see Fitzpatrick do well.

That Bears-Packers game, man...that is one of those rare moments that really will go down in the history books. The only thing that could've made it bigger is if it was a playoff game. But going from the idea that Rodgers had a serious injury knocking him out of the game and potentially longer, to see him come back out in the second half, playing on one leg if you will and slinging it around leading the Pack to 24 pts and the win...I'm not a Packers fan, but that finish gave me chills at what I had witnessed.

nebish - 9/11/2018 at 01:37 AM

IPowrie, I'm sorry bro, but damn those Lions suckkkkkk...

How about the best football music ever:

porkchopbob - 9/11/2018 at 03:26 PM

As a huge Packers fan, I can't tell you how crazy that game was. What a swing. That is up there with the Hail Mary and the 8-7-1 game, top 5 Rodgers performances ever. He came strolling back in like Willis Reed and dominated. I know a lot of people thought the season was over, especially after Kizer looked even worse than Hundley.

And wow, those Lions. I haven't seen the wheels come off like that in a long time. Getting to watch the Detroit crowd fade from my flight was pure gold.

Add to that the Brewers closed the gap on the Cubs, it's been a good sports weekend.

I fell asleep when the game was 17-17. How do you give up 31 straight points?

porkchopbob - 9/17/2018 at 02:40 PM

Oy, that Packers-Vikings game was about as frustrating as a game can get. Green Bay was in the driver's seat but just as they came back against Chicago last week, they let the Vikings sneak back in. Sure, the penalty on Mathews was total garbage, but that doesn't mean the D couldn't have stopped the TD and the conversion to tie it up. They were lucky to get out of there with a tie after MN missed so many field goals. Still, I like these early season division battles.

Elsewhere around the league:
- Bortles didn't look half bad in the AFC title rematch against NE. Is this the Jags' year?
- Fitzpatrick had another huge weekend against the defending champs - does Tampa stick with him for the rest of the season? Is Fitzy the journeyman QB of the decade?
- Derek Carr went 29-32 in a loss. Lot of work for Gruden in Oakland.
- Case Keenum keeps winning. The Vikings always toss away QBs that win games for them in an attempt to upgrade (Warren Moon, Randall Cunningham, Jeff George, Brad Johnson, Donovan McNabb, etc). It will be interesting to see Bridgewater and Keenum's next few years compared to Cousins' success in Minnesota.
- That KC-Pitt game was nuts. A lot of Steelers fans in the bar were ready to go home after the first quarter, they really made a game out of it.
- How about Buffalo's Vontae Davis retiring at halftime? You really couldn't at least finish the game? Bizarre.

jszfunk - 9/18/2018 at 10:18 AM

Yeah that Vontae Davis thing was odd. I missed the Packers game, ties stink!!!! The Bridgewater thing is odd. Shows some promise as a young qb,gets injured loses his job, gets let go. I saw the last few minutes of the KC Pitt game. It's always a good Sunday when the team you are a fan of(Colts) and the Patriots lose!

Lee - 9/18/2018 at 12:33 PM

That call was terrible. They might as well play flag football like little kids.

Lee - 10/2/2018 at 11:34 AM

So Le'Veon is finally going to report to Pittsburgh. I don't think he did get the contract he wanted.

LeglizHemp - 10/9/2018 at 12:45 AM

I think the NFL should revisit the pass interference rule being a spot foul in the age of record scoring and protection of players.

porkchopbob - 10/9/2018 at 01:32 PM

Rams and the Chiefs continue to roll. Rams look really good, but I'm not buying the Chiefs - it's still an Andy Reid team with a young QB.

Can't believe the day Mason Crosby had, in a dome no less. Did he owe his bookie or something? I guess everyone has their day. Packers better get it together for the 49ers next week because they have a tough stretch after that - Rams, Pats, Fins, Seahawks, Vikes, Falcons are all on the horizon.

How about Brees passing Peyton Manning for yard thrown? Nice to see, on a long TD no less. Brees is one of those guys that is hard to root against.

I was watching that game in a Michigan bar in Chicago so most of the customers were Lions fans. It was laughter, bewilderment and, "Oh my God are you kidding?". Hard to say how that game would have turned out had he made those kicks. Easy to say Green Bay would have won but the Lions would have played differently were it closer. They were able to run the ball for instance.

Yeah, Pack just looked off (I'm sure Will's Northwoods Inn was pretty quiet). Down their top 2 WRs with the JV squad learning on the job. Plus Crosby didn't make Rodgers fumble (twice). Math says it would have been closer if you score those kicks, but it just didn't look like Green Bay's day. Reminds me a little of Favre's 2000 season when Ray Rhodes was the Head Coach and GB had epic comebacks in 3 of their first 4 games - they ended up running out of gas down the stretch. You can't spot points like that every week and expect to win.

Meanwhile Patricia has beaten Brady and Rodgers after getting spanked by the Jets.

And blowing that game in Dallas. They should be 3-2.

porkchopbob - 10/29/2018 at 01:13 PM

Packers should won that game in LA were it not for a couple of boneheaded calls.

First, run up the middle from your own 1 yard line? You're just asking for a safety.

But GB still seemingly had the game in hand, down by only 2 with 2:05 and receiving the ball back. I'm not sure what Ty Montgomery was thinking, or why special teams coaches didn't tell him to keep it in the end zone. Had he taken a knee, Pack would have had 2:05 left, 1 TO and the 2-Minute warning, from the 25 - drive 40-50 yards and a field goal wins it. Who doesn't like Rodgers' chances? Instead, he takes it out, wasting time and the 2-minute warning clock stop and only gets to the 20. And of course, he fumbles. Game over.

Too bad, it was a great game and one of GB's best of the season. Hopefully they can build on that because their upcoming schedule ain't easy.

Meanwhile, the Rams look human, but I wouldn't be against an LA-KC Super Bowl. Also, nice to watch a game in the Colosseum with the old Rams jerseys, filled with Packers fans.

well Mr. Bell was a no show today. Interesting--i see both sides of this. Steelers seemed very hard asses in not granting him an extension but again its a business and he did what he felt was best for him. Wonder who will sign him and for how much next season. Would think there will be a few clubs in need of a great talent like Bell. We shall see

Big week in the fantasy league...DanB's 1st place team vs my First and Goal 2nd place team. I make Dan a 10.5 pt favorite.

nebish - 11/14/2018 at 05:08 AM

Who controls the undroppable players in that league? Hemp do you control the players that can be dropped? I can't drop Brady. He hasn't posted more than 15.66 pts the last 3 weeks. He is my backup QB, but I could do better picking somebody else up off the waiver wire most week.

Lee - 11/15/2018 at 10:18 PM

Good game tonight. Hope the Pack win so all the Bears fans here will be quiet for a few days. Then hopefully the Vikings take them down Sunday night!

porkchopbob - 11/19/2018 at 04:41 PM

Huge game tonight - KC vs LA. Rams have already faced the Saints, and right now it's KC, Rams, Saints, and then everybody else.

Bummer for Alex Smith. Doesn't sound career-ending like Theisman's gruesome injury, but you got to wonder how this guy's career could have turned out had he been on a stable team. He was thrown to the wolves in SF, and then passed over when Kaepernick got the hot hand, who was eventually dumped completely. Then he's traded away in favor of Mahomes in KC (looks to be a great move) and now this just when DC seemed poised to cruise away with the NFC East in a weak year for the division.

That was a heavyweight fight in the first degree. Mahomes is a force and will be around for a while.

So...the league's best running back kicks a woman while she's down on the floor, probably would've killed her if his friends weren't there, and the Chiefs bury it (because he's Kareem Hunt) until the video surfaces 12 or so games into the season and probably wouldn't have if not for the video and that's not cheating?
I guess there aren't any Chiefs haters around here because if this were a high profile Patriots player this thread would get blown up.

Bhawk - 12/3/2018 at 05:16 PM

As the resident Chiefs fan here, I deeply apologize for how badly this incident has reflected on the Patriots.

porkchopbob - 12/3/2018 at 05:29 PM

McC out as Head Coach in Green Bay. Not one bit surprised, and glad they didn't wait until the end of the season because everyone knew it after yesterday's disaster against the Cards. The last few seasons have been exciting, but underachieving. Slow starts out of the gate thanks to young, uneven rosters. Ted Thompson's refusal to sign free agents never helped - draft and develop only works if you have stellar drafts. When Ron Wolf, Ted Thompson's mentor, was GM in Green Bay he had several stellar drafts, worked hard to trade for Favre when no one else cared, and none of it would have mattered had he not signed Reggie White, Don Beebe, Keith Jackson, Sean Jones, etc. Being caught without a decent backup QB twice doesn't help a QB-centric coach plead his case.

Still, McCarthy oversaw some excellent years and had a great run, even if there were more disappointing NFC Championship games than great ones, they still got there, which is more than I can say for the rest of the NFC North. McCarthy was never as beloved in Green Bay as Holmgren was, but perhaps expectations were just higher than they were in 1992. He was never the "mastermind" like a Belichek or Bill Walsh, or a personality like Andy Reid or Gruden, but his success over the past 12+ years speaks for itself. I'm sure he'll find another home soon enough, a lot of teams out there would be lucky to have him.

It's kinda cute when Bears fans get all hopeful. Enjoy this year while it lasts, the Packers will still probably sweep you

Colt McCoy is the 2nd Skins QB to break his leg this season. Must be something in the Potomac.

Part of my children growing up was in Wisconsin. During my formative years as far as getting into sports I was a Pack,Brewers and Bucks fan. Still a fan of all.

I knew the Packers were struggling this year, and from what I read and heard Mike has made some questionable decisions. It sounds like it might have been for the best. When you have a QB like Rogers you hate to waste him if things aren't working out. I like McCarthy. No doubt be will land on myhis feet and I am sure will get another HC job if he wants. Maybe take a year off and jump back in.

It's definitely been a weird season. The Packers battled elite teams like the Rams and Pats, but can barely stop garbage teams like the 49ers and Cards. Even the shut out of the Bills felt like a loss because its was so sloppy. Everything has seemed off, and that falls on the coach eventually. I'm a big fan of continuity, and McCarthy has been a solid rock while the Bears, Vikings, and Lions have gone through exactly 127 coaches over the past 15 years. But it had run its course, definitely run out of gas.

Holy crap, that lateral in Miami was crazy.

Mahomes might be the most exciting QB in decades. Hopefully his star doesn't fizzle, dude is fun to watch this season.

How crazy would it be if the Chargers and the Rams made the Super Bowl and we had a battle for LA? Or the Chargers and the Saints and Brees faces his old team? This season is getting pretty interesting.

Good job in the fantasy league DanB. You had a really good team.

Somehow my team laid a complete egg in the 2nd round of the playoff. But on the season I went 3-0 vs Hemp

porkchopbob - 1/1/2019 at 01:56 PM

Pretty wild, fun season. A lot of teams rallied to make it in to the playoffs, it's all about when you peak and having patience. Colts, Texans, Ravens, Eagles, Seahawks, Cowboys were all looking very average mid-season yet all made the playoffs. Everyone figured the Rams and Pats would be in the mix, based on last season, but who saw the Saints, Chargers, and Chiefs being as good as they have been? Meanwhile, I was absolutely right about the Vikings taking a step backwards by switching QBs - you don't mess with chemistry.

Should be some exciting round 1 playoff games.

Colts started 1-5,finished 8-2. I might be biased, but I think they are the strongest of the wild card teams. After that,we shall see.

They definitely turned it on and rallied. Houston started 0-3 and ended 11-5 - bizarre for 2 teams in the same division to rally like that (with Tennessee on their heals to boot). Can't say I've watched much AFC South football, but both Houston and Indy are 2-3 against teams that made the playoffs, including splitting the regular season series. Luck definitely gives Indy an edge, but it's a nice division matchup to kick things off on Saturday.

Lee - 1/3/2019 at 08:49 PM

So who does everyone like in the playoffs?

Houston -1 Indy
Dallas -2 Seattle
Baltimore -2.5 Chargers
Chicago -6 Philly

The only game I really like is Philly and the points. Bears are good at home but Philly plays in the cold too so that shouldn't matter to them. Plus it's going to be unseasonably warm for January here in Chicago. As long is Foles is playing I will take the points.

porkchopbob - 1/3/2019 at 09:04 PM

All of these teams are incredibly close, I can't remember an opening round being so even. And not just even, but young and on the upswing, so there's less recent history to go by. Also, 3 out of 4 match ups have already met this season (Indy/Hous twice). It's really about who is peaking right now. My picks:

INDY - I'll take Luck over Houston's D
SEATTLE - I'll take Pete Carroll over Jason Garrett
CHARGERS - Ravens just beat the Chargers and are at home, but how far can the Lamar Jackson Train go?
PHILLY - Eagles have momentum

BIGV - 1/4/2019 at 12:34 AM

Colts/Texans
OV/47.5

'Boys/Hawks
Seattle + 2.5

Bears/Eagles
UN/41

Ravens/Chargers
Balt -2.5

oldcoot - 1/4/2019 at 05:37 PM

(These are where I got them at)

Colts +2
Seattle +2
LAC +3

Waiting on the last game, I see it's at Bears -6 1/2. If it hits 7 I'll definitely be on Philly. May not play this one at all.

porkchopbob - 1/7/2019 at 08:10 PM

Some great wild card football over the weekend.

Houston proved they are still merely The Texans and we can continue remind ourselves, "oh yeah, that team". Cowboys live to play another week. The Chargers almost blew a comfy lead against a green QB in a sloppy game. And the Bears. Still. Suck. But seriously, the Eagles should not be taken lightly. I still think the Saints are the team to beat in the NFC, but Philly has some of that 2011 NY Giants-type sleeper mojo.

Still, I'm picking the Chiefs, Rams, Pats, and Saints. The Chiefs and Chargers have a history of disappearing in the playoffs in the past 15 years or so, but I'm actually hoping we get to watch more Mahomes this season. If I were to pick one upset, I'd say the Chiefs could get a surprise from Indy.

I am hoping not. Colts need to go in there and take him out of the equation.
Put pressure on him get him rattled. This is his first playoff game, pressure is on the Chiefs. Colts are playing with house money at this point. Mahomes liked to go big, make him pay for it.Travis Kelce can be dangerous. I am not to worried about KC defense to much. They can get after the qb, so the o line that has been so good needs to keep it up. Colts have a good mix of run and pass so far. I feel they can put points up, just minimize mistakes.

Yeah, Chiefs have been terrible in the playoffs - 1 win since they lost the 1993 AFC Championship to the Bills. And 3 seasons they were 13-3 and lost their first playoff game (1995, 1997, 2003 [the no punt game]). Also, there was that 45-44 28-point collapse in 2014 to...the Colts

Actually 5 of their 11 playoff losses since 1994 have been to the Colts.

Philadelphia will win another Super Bowl this year. Foles has divine intervention and thrives in underdog pressure situations, which is exactly what the Eagles are in again this year. The double doink in Chicago is proof. Last year, Julio Jones couldn’t haul in a catchable ball in the end zone that would’ve sent Philly home.....and that bizarre TD at the end of the Vikings/Saints game that allowed Philly to beat MN......Foles creates it all with his magic. On Sunday, yet again, led a long and steady game-winning drive by absolutely carving up a great Bears defense. BDN! BDN! BDN!

Not sure how serious this is, but Philly sports radio is discussing the scenario if Foles wins another Super Bowl. How could Philly move on from that? If he does, Philly would have to trade Wentz. Who would be a suitor and what would the Eagles get in return?

Not sure if they will win another SB, but you can't deny he fits well when he is the qb. If they do win the big one, you almost have to stay with him . He is still somewhat young and barring any injuries he still has some miles left.

Yeah, Dallas has bumped up twice to +7 1/2 and then back down to 7. The Chiefs at one point dropped to -3. I was thinking of trying an in-between on it but I just like Indy better. Plus, when I rechecked, it had gone back to -5 1/2. I took the Chargers the moment the line came out initially. Now, it's just sitting at +4.

Hmm, interesting. I just checked the main Vegas sports book and the lines are still 5, 7, 4 & 8. The only one I saw move was Saints moving a whole point but that was at the first of the week.

I might buy an extra half point on the Cowboys game. Doesn't really make sense on the other three games. Well MAYBE take The Pats down to 3.5 to perhaps get a win.

At least I was going to. They won't let you buy or sell the extra half point yet. Probably not until tomorrow I guess. That stinks cuz you can't put a teaser in yet. I like the over in the Cowboys game. I can see a fair amount of points being scored in that one.

Significant weather in both games today.

Can KC O operate in this weather? Could be a neutralizing factor and tilt to the Colts.

Does Prescott's willingness and ability help the Cowboys given the weather and field conditions? Assuming both passing games might not be as potent as they normally would be. No doubt LA well suited to run with Gurley, but I would think that both front 7s can key on the traditional run game making Dak's running more of an X factor.

Kind of liking both road dogs. Line been moving downward in KC, bounced off of 4, now back up to 4.5.

jszfunk - 1/13/2019 at 09:48 AM

Chiefs came out on a mission and played a heck of a game. Hats off to them. Indy could not get anything going, got outplayed, mistakes. This was probably the first "real" elite team(can I say that about KC?) the Colts played all year, and it showed. The way they played yesterday was not indicative of they're last 10 games. But once again KC was the better team yesterday afternoon. It was a 1 seed beating a 6 seed.

This was the first time I have seen Mahomes play. He definitely is a play maker. I am not an expert by any means, but the way he throws at times I wonder if he is going to trash his arm at some point in his career.

Usually I do not pay attention to the play by play and the commentators all that much but Colinsworth has always been difficult for me to listen to. His gushing over Mahomes was getting nauseating. I finally just muted the volume and just turned on the local guys on the radio. He was getting painful to hear.

I always appreciate good QB play, but I am not in the PM band wagon quite yet.

Cowboys couldn't stop the run but still made it close.

I at least had the over on that and barely won it.

4/4! No surprises over the weekend, the top seeds remain. Eagles were the only team to really put up a fight, and their offense faded after the first quarter. Chargers clearly had the worst day of any team, the Pats made them look completely out of place, but this has been the Chargers' m.o. during the Rivers era.

I like a surprise 6-seed once in a while, but top seeds makes for good football. Both teams have already faced each other in epic high-scoring regular season games. I'm excited to see Rams-Saints 2.0, and young Mahomes v old man Brady has all kinds of possibilities.

I'm picking a Saints-Chiefs Super Bowl

BoytonBrother - 1/14/2019 at 03:32 PM

If sure-handed Alshon Jeffrey catches that short easy pass, that he can catch in his sleep, Foles would’ve driven down the field and scored the go-ahead TD. The Birds defense played a decent game, but the Saints’ offense is just really really good. Foles wasn’t his on his A-game for 4-quarters. The better team won.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Eagles will be next year with a 100% healthy Carson Wentz. He was never himself either - I think he tried to rush his recovery and it took away his mobility and forced him to stay in the pocket, which he isn’t 100% comfortable doing, it seems.

oldcoot - 1/14/2019 at 04:31 PM

Had my first 0-fer on games in a good long while.

Really surprised by the poor showings of Indy & the Chargers. Luck looked like Bambi in the headlights for virtually the whole game. Do have to give credit to both KC and NE, they were both ready to play.

Also surprised that Dallas just couldn't stop the run, their D had been pretty stout lately.

Early lines are both home teams around a field goal favorite.

You really could make a good case for any of the four remaining to make the Super Bowl.

Lee - 1/14/2019 at 10:35 PM

3-1 for me. I never do something like this but my wife loves the Colts so I put a little on them. They looked awful. Lucked out on Philly when the Saints missed that field goal toward the end or they would have covered.

I can't stand The Pats but they always win so I will take them getting points. The Saints seem to be able to play defense so I am going to take them. I think I will buy the half point and get the line to a field goal.

Damn. What a pair of games. And after all of these years we have a rematch of Brady's first Super Bowl appearance. I'm sure over the next two weeks we will be hearing all about how many QBs and coaches have gone through the Rams' franchise since 2001.

Chiefs and Saints fans have to be aching this morning. Especially Saints fans.

So yeah, the no-call. Probably the most egregious, blatant pass interference I've seen and it didn't get called. Even Rams CB Robey-Coleman admitted he was waiting for the flag since he hit helmet-to-helmet and got to the receiver way before the ball and never turned around to make a play on the ball. That would have given the Saints a new set of downs, possibly drain the clock and kick the field goal and force the Rams to use their time outs. But I'm not really sure what Payton was thinking since he threw it twice rather than running the ball and the clock down. I'd have more sympathy if he hadn't wasted the opportunity himself by not running it and milking the clock. It's unfortunate, it was a great game otherwise. I know refs don't like to "decide" playoffs games, but it was a bizarre non-call.

After all that, Chiefs-Pats was an even better game. Pats looked like they had rattled Mahomes early, but credit to them for regrouping after halftime. Still, as soon as the Pats won the OT coin toss I think we all knew it was over for that gassed and average KC defense. You can't give up 3rd & 10 and expect to win. Mahomes will be back, no doubt.

While watching the AFC Championship, I thought it must be surreal for Drew Bledsoe to be listening to the man who replaced him in Dallas call the game, and still watching the man who replaced him in Foxborough, five years earlier, still playing for Super Bowls.

When the Pats played the Rams in 2001 they were the underdogs that sneaked in thanks to a controversial call, and the Rams were the unstoppable juggernaut, the greatest show on turf. Hopefully the Super Bowl will be as good as the Championship games. I'm sure they will be calling pass interference a little tighter.

Help us LA Rams....your our only hope...

BIGV - 1/23/2019 at 10:53 PM

Being a lifelong Saints fan, I had to post about that call. As a result, the Saints settled for a FG turning the ball back over to the Rams with 1:41 on the Clock...With that flag and the resulting 1st down on the 9, the Rams burn their last TO and Saints take the clock down to 3 seconds before attempting the game winner. Say all you will about other missed calls during the game, but that was possibly the worst I've seen.

Go Pats!....

The Saints and the Rams were in the NFC West together for some time and aside from the Falcons, I can't think of a Team I despise more....

Stephen - 1/31/2019 at 07:17 PM

The Patriots wear their SB routine as comfortably as their coach wears his Pats hoodie on the sidelines
& there's the point -- atonement for Belichick --
he owes Pats fans something after his still-unexplained benching of SB hero Malcolm Butler last year -- it had a direct hand in the outcome -- the Pats walked onto the field confused & unsure -- they still rolled up 500+ yards of offense, but again -- they lost the game, Phila didn't win it

So coach Belichick's uncalled-for stubborness in benching a key player, helped answer last year's prayers of the anti-Bostons for a Pats loss

but no divine intervention this year -- at the end of the game, TB12 will once again be flashing his toothy victory grin for all to enjoy -- after everyone's favorite QB has led everyone's favorite team to its 6th win in 10 SBs -- a 'dynasty' unmatched anywhere, anytime in sports, just as his QB numbers are NFL records for decades to come

Pats 35, LA 21

Hi Mark!!

Brendan

Pretty sure I gave you guys props a year ago. Rightfully so too, Philly D did it with the game on the line. But yeah, we're an arrogant bunch. Sox fans too. Not sure what's up with that. Maybe years, decades, of sucking and we figure it's our "due". It'd make for a good sociological/psycho analytical study.

Always good seeing you. Stay warm.

I live in Chicago and almost all of the local taverns have a "theme" if you will. Oh we're a Michigan bar, an Ohio State bar, an Iowa bar. Mostly midwestern stuff because so many people move here from the region. The owners don't give a sheet about said team/college, they do it to make money.

Anyway, one of my past local haunts was owned by a guy from Baaaaaaston. Did I spell that right?

On Sundays during football season, the baaaaaaaaaaaaa would be packed. All of these young adults would take up space and I'll be damned if most of them drank water and didn't spend a penny. They'd scream and yell if a Patriot got two yards. God they were obnoxious.

So I asked the owner about this. Said he didn't care. Maybe they would come back. Place just closed down. Guess they didn't come back.

Mark, my man, you've never been anything but a complete and utter gentleman, and I'm a better man for knowing you (despite your horrible choice in sports teams... ). I'd wish you luck on Sunday, but that would hurt my soul too much, so I'll wish you good food and better company!

Be well my friend.

Mighty high praise coming from a dude of your caliber. Appreciated... but not always true. I can be a real piece of work sometimes, just ask around.
Pats run ends soon. KC is going to be the team to beat, if they keep Mahomes and get rid of Reid.

Stephen - 2/1/2019 at 04:44 PM

KC is finding the tax man as tough to evade as the Pats -- "Chiefs owe nearly $1M in back taxes on Arrowhead renovation"
TB looks/plays no differently than from his early career -- he's said he wants to play until he's 45 -- who's to argue -- whatever the case, his/Pats run are unequaled & a treat for the appreciative sports fan -- cheering on the Pats on Sunday

I don't care who wins The Super Bowl today as long as the Patriots lose.

Lee - 2/3/2019 at 11:45 AM

I'm still waiting for the Lions to win one. Oh wait, we don't go to The Super Bowl.

Lee - 2/3/2019 at 11:59 AM

Line just moved up to Pats giving three. Guess the money is on them. I doubt it is going to matter whoever wins. One of them will win by more than three.

Stephen - 2/3/2019 at 06:37 PM

Yes line has moved up to Pats giving three
word tho, it's not just Pats today, altho they're obviously the big show

Wash is our nemesis, they have our number & this is an important game to get in a division that could get away from us qwik (it's starting to) and to show Stanley Cup champs that we can beat them -- current update, scoreless after 1st period

on the parquet, we can both snap OKC 7-game win streak, And leapfrog them in the overall -- And in the process , pull into a tie w/Phila

but really wanna see Pats win tonite, it would put last year's odd outcome into its proper perspective (fluke/aberration/blip on the screen etc etc.....), and cement their legacy as greatest of all time in the NFL....

in short, all three teams will have to be in top-form to make it a clean sweep today -- great times, sports is good

NFL pools only had a few people this year - and I was terrible .....

Spread pool:
Points/dropped/W-L

1 sk 130 5 130-116
2 danb 124 2 124-123
3 Sang 123 5 123-121
4 gobluelee 105 0 105-138

sk (neb) is the .... winner

Straight Up pool:
Points/dropped/W-L

1 danb 162 6 162-90
2 Sangsters of the Midway 157 7 157-94
3 neb 156 6 156-96

danb is unfortunately the winner ........

BoytonBrother - 2/4/2019 at 01:34 PM

Goff is a very good player but he looked like a deer in headlights. Maybe because he knew Gurley was injured? Who knows, but the Patriots were clearly the better team with the better coach. Looks like the non-pass interference call against New Orleans in the NFC Championship game pretty much handed the Super Bowl to the Patriots. I think that matchup would’ve been much better.

Agreed. Goff looked like a rookie that had just been pulled off of the bench. He didn't get "comfortable" until he accepted that he was going to have to stand in the pocket and take some hits. And then he tossed that INT which pretty much sealed it. Would have been interesting to see how the more experienced Brees handle it, but then, he didn't handle the pressure well at all in OT of the NFC Championship game.

Great game, both defenses were sturdy, but the Rams just couldn't stop Edelman and you can't win if you can't move the ball.

Have to hand it to the Pats, this has been one hell of a run. Most teams can muster 4-5 seasons of success, maybe. The Cowboys were really the last team to win more than 2 championships when they won 3 in 4 seasons. In the 80s and 90s the 49ers won 5 in 13 seasons. Steelers won 4 in the 1970s. In the 1960s the Packers won 5 championships in 7 seasons. But to win 5 over the course of 17 seasons, with 9 appearances, is not easy in this age of the NFL. Remember when there was talk of Matt Cassel being Brady's successor? I mean, eventually someone will have to take over, but looks like it won't be any time soon. Dude must sleep in a Tupperware container.

I meant

Pats 3+8=11 Rams 3 (key stuck)

emr - 2/4/2019 at 07:25 PM

I truly believe that if Gurley was right its a different game. But what makes the Pats the Pats is Billy B's capacity to morph his coaching to match the team his has. Everyone else molds the team to their philosophy. He is the greatest coach of all time. Red Auerbach for the most part had a static team with a static systems.

fensranger - 2/4/2019 at 09:36 PM

Pretty boring game to say the least. Gurley basically non factor through the playoffs. Belachek is probably worth a touchdown in the playoffs, that is how much better he seems to be than anyone else out there. Congrats again to the PATS.

It great being a Jets fan and knowing you are playing for a wildcard game before the season starts for the last twenty or so years. LOL

Bowman coached longer and won a ton of games, however...his best winning pct. was at Montreal, .744 (8 years, I think) career (35? years!) .657. Bill's is .740 with the Patriots, .685 including 5 years as HC of Browns. I'm a little fuzzy on the numbers, haven't had coffee yet, but I'm sure Bill's winning pct. is higher, over 25 years no less.
Edited to wiggle some numbers around but after 6 SB wins, I'm at the "yeah, whatever" point of caring.

Stephen - 2/5/2019 at 05:15 PM

I'd say Belichick in fball, probably Scotty Bowman in hockey, esp in terms of longevity -- am a homer, so feel Art Ross could be mentioned -- career record 387-290-95, 3 Stanley Cups
then either Red, Lenny Wilkins or Popovich, depending on criteria

piacere - 2/5/2019 at 06:32 PM

Red Auerbach, 8 in a row, 9 out of 10.

I hate going all Boston/New England on everyone but hey, waddaya gonna do?

fensranger - 2/5/2019 at 08:29 PM

Not sure there were things like salary caps and regional drafts in days of Bowman and Auerbach. Belachek had to deal with those things so building a dynasty in todays world of sports is way more difficult than before.

I dont think anyone can compare to what Belachek and Pats have done. And I am not a fan of the Pats but someone who appreciates how difficult this really is. Bowman never had to deal in that environment.

Bhawk - 2/5/2019 at 11:22 PM

LOL, yup, everyone else sucks.

Lee - 2/28/2019 at 06:32 PM

So Jason Witten comes out of retirement to rejoin the Cowboys. I find this funny. Apparently the Cowboys asked him to come back toward the end of last season for the playoff push and he turned them down.

Maybe it dawned on him that he is a horrible broadcaster. Perhaps Tony Romo could have given him some pointers.
