Excellent show - whole lotta r'n'b, very much a night that shared the spotlight all around.

Gabe Dixon is an excellent singer!

I want to this show and it was great. Ryman is a nice place to see a show. Who is Gabe Dixon?

JimSheridan - 5/22/2020 at 05:03 PM

He's the new keyboard player.

He has a challenge: filling Kofi's shoes is not easy, as Kofi has a long history with Derek, beloved by fans. But as you'd guess, the TTB chose a monster player. I didn't realize he'd be a such a good singer though.

Yes Gabe Dixon is a good singer. Good keys too. Enjoyed that a lot.

Derek is a band leader like Tommy Dorsey. I was reading about Tommy this morning and he played Trombone and had a big band. In the 1940's young people liked those big bands and they danced to that kind of music. Tommy ran a tight ship. He only hired the best musicians and singers. Hired Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich in 1940.

Derek wouldn't put up with musicians like Dickey, Gregg, Jerry Garcia and others who drank too much and heavy into drugs if they were younger and looking to play in Derek's band. Would Derek keep Joe Cocker back when he was drinking so much he occasionally would throw up on stage? I saw a Cocker show where that happened. Cocker wasn't very good that night and looked bad. Back when I saw him with Leon Russell and Jim Gordon on drums and Rita Coolidge on secondary vocals Joe Cocker was fantastic. They blew the roof off.

That is why Derek himself doesn't have any bad nights and his band is always sharp.

Love the group but wished they had stronger songwriting.

I far prefer them Live and have seen them 4 times. I enjoy all the cover songs a lot.
