As a Beacon regular, when I found out about the new venue this year, I was a bit skeptical of the location. Last night's show was a blast...the Southbound encore with Susan was surely a highlight. However, it was NOT a highlight to find out that when the show was over, my car had been stolen from one of the side streets adjacent to the theatre. This long-time fan is looking forward to the ABB return to the safe confines of the Beacon in '11.

I agree.... Very nice review 😀 To all going to any of the shows.. Have a great time.. Weather is very bad here in New York.. I live out on the eastern part of L.I. and it is like a mini hurricane today... To all in the area and in and around the City be safe.... but , let the good times roll....

Also posted in the Forum... Headline: GOOD MOVE, ALLMAN BROS. BY JIM FARBER DAILY NEWS MUSIC CRITIC NO ONE likes getting evicted - especially after two decades in the same home. But The Allman Brothers made the best of their forced move to The United Palace Theater last night. Since 1989, the lions of Southern rock have spent most every March holding court at The Beacon Theater, performing multiple shows at a stretch. This year, Cirque du Soleil booked a (now delayed) show in the space, forcing the Allmans to relocate 100 blocks north. Then again, the guys could probably use a shakeup by now. As much warmth as the band's annual New York runs exude, they long ago became as predictable a March staple as St. Patty's Day. Last night, the band didn't exactly reinvent the wheel (or the guitar solo). But they did display many of the reasons they've sustained a 41-year career anchored on live performances. For one thing, they don't just plop their jams into familiar hits. While songs as trodden as "Hot Lanta" and "Statesboro Blues" dotted last night's repertoire, they also threw in lots of surprises, like Warren Haynes' cover of Van Morrison's "And It Stoned Me." Here, guitarists Haynes and Derek Trucks proved they can do just as well with gentle solos as with pile-driving ones. Better, the two ax-men didn't just idly trade solos. One thrust while the other parried around a riff. In some of the most feverish moments, they found thrilling parallel peaks. Yet, their greatest mutual asset remains their ability to improvise at great length without losing the grounding of melody. Last night, the band found an emotional high-point in "Desdemona." Its slower blues gait allowed singer Gregg Allman to lose his broad growl and center on the song's emotional core. For all the group's solid adjustment to the new setting, it has come at a cost. Five of 13 shows they originally planned had to be canceled. If only the fans that balked could hear how good the band sounds in exile, they might reconsider making the trek uptown.
