Rock On
Lana your comments are so true I think the same time everytime I see them how do they do it.
Peace.
Hey Stormy...have big fun in KC tonight 🙂
FAMILIA:
Interesting post I just read on the Dickey site- and very sadly, this is the part of the reason I stay away from the GB. There are too many
"UN- enlightened Rogues" out there that do not truely possess the spirit that Berry Oakey in particular tried to carry on with after Duane left the band. I realize that we are "Rock'n"Rollers"- maybe not all "Rocket Scientists" and certainly NOT "Holy Rollers"...but Berry and Duane"s ABB DID HAVE an element of pure loving spirit that is sorely missing in society today. This Post I am copying here from some alleged fan of Jesus I think was very UN....whatever your spiritual belief is. And for certain, I was offended by it- and wish this type of IGNORANCE would go back to the underworld where the rest of the world's woes are coming from- and stay far away from the REAL BROTHERHOOD'S guestbbook. So check this out...and MY response tagged on at the end. *And please
cbarr@childrenofjesus.org....don't even think to "spar" with me on this- just try and learn to be compassionate
and maybe then you'll "get" the real "Love is Everywhere" concept.

Betts was so BLESSED and I have never seen any indication of thankfulness from him.
Duane Allman was The BEST rock and roll guitar player EVER. That helped to make the 1970-1971 Allman Brothers Band The BEST rock and roll band EVER.
Duane MADE Betts. That was made clear to me after the death of Duane.
Since Duane died I have only heard Betts really KICKIN' IT when he was playing with someone as good as he could be (like volunteer jams with Toy Caldwell and Charlie Daniels). If there is someone to give him a run for his money he shines. Otherwise he's hit and miss or w-a-a-a-y too country.
Good riddance to "Ramblin' Man" and all that other ABB country drivel.
Don't get me wrong ... I like country, but if I want to listen to country I'll turn on something country. When I want to hear the ABB I am not listening for country.
I miss Skydog and Berry ...

To CBARR...whoever you are:
I don't know what "Children of Jesus Org" you belong to cbarr, but you don't sound very compassionate to me. *(You know compassion was a very big theme of Jesus). I don't go runnin' around hangin' in "Jesus" clubs, AND I certainly do love and respect HIM- but ya know, it's been my experience with bug-eyed folk like you to steer far clear away from. You sound very angry and judgemental- after all, who annointed you (Jesus?) to be the R'n'R spiritual swamie that can read into Dickey's heart and KNOW that he is not "Thankful" everyday of his life for the experience he shared with Duane. And last note Ole' Holier- than-Thou...about this biz of you "never heard Dickey really Kickin It" on his own...hmmm...sounds to me like you been listening in some strange tongues. I guess you have no clue as to what Dickey accomplished at Watkins Glen in front of 600,000 fans- or hundreds of other shows that I HAVE EXPERIENCED (in this world). Not to mention the bigger fact- that if it weren't for Forrest Richard Betts- there would NOT have been an ABB the morning after October 29, 1971....(and also, as much as I LOVED/LOVE Duane more than anyone (in this world)...I have plenty of recordings of when the Brother was off on nights). Please, do go check in with Jesus- and pray for some guidance- not to mention some good REAL down to EARTH Christian forgiveness for your very UN-Christian sentiment. And perhaps HE (that's Jesus) may even suggest that you atone for your misguided sentiment by offering an apology to Dickey right here in the GB.
**Hmmm....not bad for a recovering Catholic! Pax vobiscum et Peachumus.
pre-party in kc? where?
So sorry to hear of Tommy C's passing. Thoughts and prayers.
Happy Birthday to Glenw, many peachful daze ahead.
Jeanne, welcome home, you were missed. Glad you had a great time.
Hey there JFC, how're ya doing buddy?
Twangster...you're the best buddy a Jersey girl could have! Thanks!
Hey there Lana, when I check out of this planet, I want to come back as you!
Hey there from the road sweet family,
A couple of quick notes since the connection here at the hotel is at the speed of clay - "Queen of Hearts" was *not* played last night ... but every song they did play was incredible. I've seen hundreds of ABB shows and they still get me on my feet dancing and cheering the entire night. Lots of highlights, but "Rockin' Horse" and "Desdemona" completely kick, and Oteil is definitely rocking with his new bass. Peeps, if you ain't seen the ABB yet this tour, you're in for a treat. If you have, I bet you want more, more, more ! 🙂
Had a completely wonderful surprise after the show - Mike and Olaf from Germany have come over to catch most of this leg of the tour and do a little sight seeing. You guys are great! We're looking forward to spending some more time with you ... and to the pre-party in KC tomorrow.
Take care and know that you are loved,
Lana
p.s. Please use the PM here if you need to reach me, because my email server has been inaccesible from the road so far.
Cowboy, I can't guarantee that I'm wiser, but I can guarantee that I'm not wider.
You see, packrat that I am, I've still got this belt that I bought in the 8th grade. I love bein' able to wear it to reunions.
Must be my active lifestyle ............
I have to tell all...Saturday's show at the Chicago Theater was one of the best shows I have EVER seen!! It happened to be my birthday, which helped put me in a great mood....but, dam - I had a smile on my face from the first note til the last note! The Bros were so together and the songs were just perfect, for me! The show is still in my head 2 days later!! Just want to thank the band for the best birthday I've ever had! I made it to 44!
Peace
JoeRoy please at least wear your thong. Remember what happened last time you went to a show without it, I do not think the kids from the school of wayward girls will ever be the same.I know the guy who sat behind you as you danced in front of him had a show to remember. Wiser?, at our age it is wider my friend.
Philybob, enjoy your show, but enjoy the time in between, School starts here in midaugust and I can use a little break from the kids
Looked up at the sky this morning and it looked like a cloudy day but it was just smokey from the fire in AZ, 500 sq miles have burned there, but there was this little patch of blue and I figured that was TommyC and all his friends saying hi. Hope your first full day in heaven was a joyous one my friend
You all have yourselves one hell of a nice nite
Bring On The Brotherssssss August Can not Arrive Soon Enoughhhhhh
Lemme see now ........ if Li'L Brother Scott is a year older, then that makes me ................. a day wiser!
Yeah, that's it. Wiser. It sure beats grizzled.
239 hrs, 13 mins til I'm 'there' with a whole buncha y'all.
Are thongs optional?
Hi Familia!
It's been awhile. But I enjoy posting when there is a GREAT vibe share with the family. This post will come under the heading of "I FEEL FREE"- (borrowing a title from my very favorite CREAM song off "Fresh Cream." This post has to do with my overjoyous experience having takin in the Dickey Betts concert last Thursday June 20 in Albany, NY.
MY first and most simple knee jerk reactionary thought after reexperiencing the brilliance...and ORIGINALITY of one of rock's most legendary guitarists was- "what and WHY all the drama and bad vibes are about?" *I haven't seen/heard Dickey since his unfortunate departure from "Duane's Band". Sure, there was internal turmoil- but for Lordy sake- if the ABB was able to pull together after the tragedies- the Scooter Herring incident- and even survived the "Arista years"- what could be so horrific (besides Money, Guns, and Lawyers) that would keep these 4 ORIGINAL keepers of Duane's flame apart! I am sorry- I'm sure this will set off the Guest Book Commandos into a frenzy for a few weeks...but as I said once before upon the passing of George Harrison.."We (they) are not going to be around forever- and as I am certain that Paul and Ringo must feel that ETERNAL loss every day, how in GOD's name can these "Grownups"- yes- Y'all original ABB "Brothers" let this precious lifetime slip away over some crap that is the stuff the business managers usually strife over!
I saw and heard Duane's partner- Dickey Bett's- the man who didn't run away the day after Duane left the band- and therefore is the ONE Brother that is MOST responsible for their continued existence all these years. I saw and heard this Brother in the finest form I have heard in YEARS! I actually had a tear in my eye during certain musical passages that his playing drew from me. Besides his- and his pheonominal band's playing- the new acoustic stuff he did with Dan Toler was stellar. I guess what I am feeling friends is that I think being the ABB was roughing it since the reunion in 1989- somrthing that could have avoided all the stress and ugliness could have been a very simple- "let's all take some time- develope our individual solo albums/tours- "Give it a ........n break, and come back again strong and united....as they have done after all the other nasty break-ups. But for me to hear and surmise that this is possibly the BIG NASTY and the end of the road..for real- BY THE FACT that apparently an "ABB" album is coming out WITHOUT the original REAL (not Almost) Allman Brother guitarist Bett's- is not only sad...but alarming!
I am stuck between two camps. I know and love most of these guys having been "Almost" one myself- so it tears me apart to say anything hard ever again about this one or that one- regardless of "who" started what- or regardless of "who" had a social problem. Bullcrap! Duane was in a rehab days before he returned to Macon..and whoever else...Brothers take a break, they heal, and come back again! That's what Duane would've done....or had done!
Jesus kids, get over it...pay and release the lawyers- use your solo acts when the tension or the solo inspiration appears...and get DICKEY BETTS on this album in order to really be able to call it an "Allman Brothers Band LP". Whew!! 🙂 Not done yet!
POSITIVE NOTABLE MENTIONS: It was an honor and a 5 hour delight to have met and hung out with another fellow "Almost Brother"- bassist David Stoltz! This man is not only an "ace on the bass" who really had it down for Dickey...but he was a most honorable and humble gentleman. I made a new friend in David Stoltz- and as result of sharing with him our very similar experiences with the ABB- I copped the phrase in my head as I drove home to NY..."I Feel Free". Also, having met JJ Petty, several other familiar crew faces....and last but not least, speaking with Donna Betts...and finally Dickey as we parted from the hotel...it has all come down to earth, and I am at peace. *Speaking with JJ for few moments brought a grin to my mind as I recalled the sweetness of his late dad Joe Dan- in how I saw it radiate from the son! And very last but not the least...seeing Dickey walkin one of Judy Petty's little Jack Russel Terriers down the curb...just made me grin as I climbed into my car. The total feeling of the whole experience was one of coming away from a group of folk that are quite at peace with themselves..and the music that Dickey Bett's is stiil...and will always be of!
***Oh, and quite a few thousand people in the streets of Albany were of a same mind I'm sure at this most tremendous outdoor concert. I hope the Road goes on forever...Together as a reunited family! *(And then you guys can avoid a beatin' from Duane when y'all meet up again) 🙂 EAPFP
TOMMY BOOTH
So, I am getting mixed signals on if "Queen of Hearts" was played or not last night. By my count, we have 2 people saying it was and 1 person saying it wasn't.
Just curious I guess.
Hey TatooNeil,
Your Welcome bro that exta I threw in is the one with Zack Wylde ex ozzy guitarist filing in if you didnt have it hope you enjoy.
Great show in Columbus last night! Queen of Hearts was incredible, as was Please Call home and a blistering
Soulshine. Derek's opening show was excellent as well...he's really refined his slide work. ABB played
for 2.5 hours.
Warrenfest? hehehehe. Josh, that is funny. While in Chicago I was hoping Warren would return the favor and play with Larry McCray at Legends. Alas, it didn't work out that way. One story I heard was that Warren was too tired. Oh, I'm gullible but I can't believe Warren ever gets tired. I get tired just seeing what he is up to.
Was nice to meet you Josh in Chicago.
That was fun, fun, fun.
I am resting up for Indy 🙂
the august issue if guitar world just came out, withthe red hot chili peppers on the cover in sgt. pepper's regalia, and there are two things of interest to you all in there: my writeup of the american u cd and the debut of warren's column -- along with the continuation of dickey's. the pages of guitar world are the only place you can see dickey and warren together.
i just got back form bonnaroo and can;t see straight. kindly forgive any typos.
Just read about Tommy C, saddens me to hear of another kindered soul gone too soon.
Bum, I think I remember Tommy complaining about someone taking his handle on the new site. He went by Bomber I'm pretty sure around the new digs. Good Luck
Hi to all my friends.....
