sorry Lam...
i was at both shows...
this was just as good my friend...
Karen... i actually blew a flat in one of 'em... or should i say "flap"...
Well Jeanne, if I do find that wayback machine, Chicago Illinois, 6/19/02 will be right on the dial. Of course a fourth of July weekend in Byron, Georgia in 1970 would be there, and a little trip to NYC around March, 1971, and New Orleans, September 16, 1971 and...........Whoa! I guess I'm saying that performance in the Windy City
(the windiest:rolleyes: ) ranks up there with the best there ever was (to me). Everyone who knows me knows I love Duane's playing better than anything, but Derek flat out took me to the same heights in Chicago. I gotta take more road trips :cool::D
:D::cool::cool::cool: Johnny :cool::cool::cool::D
Hey Leon we could just keep calling it New Instrumental. It kind of grows on you. Besides at this point it could become confusing if they give it a title people might start saying "How come they don't play that new instrumental anymore?"
I was all prepared to give a concert review and saw KC Jimmy's. All I can say is he nailed it exactly! Can't honestly say that in all the shows I've seen/heard through trading I've EVER heard a better version of Worried Down, Dreams or Rockin' Horse ("Derek Trucks on the five string").
I'm still so pumped, I was going to end after "nailed it exactly" and I just can't stop.
Stormy, you trickster you! Add me to the list of folks that owes you big time! Didn't realize you'd pulled a little "tab" trick. I'm tellin' folks this cat is WAY TRES COOL.
Posted some other thoughts over on HTW guest book.
Another funny moment. fifth song into the concert the gal behind me, who'd been there the whole time hollers "Midnight Rider!"
Uh, unlikely you'll hear that one the rest of the evening...they just played it four songs ago!!
Karen,....Is it still Tuesday in Canada, or are you just having a little too much fun to keep track of the days???(LOL).....Have a great day folks!!!
I saw Robert Randolph for the 2nd time last nite in a real small venue here in Indy....all that crap that everyone says about him and how supposedly great he is.....well, believe every F'n word of it and make it a priority to see him. The guy is a freak of nature.
And my vote for the name of the new Instrumental: Instrumental
Enjoy your day!
I did see Stormy sit down once. I couldn't tell how many people were trying to hold him down though.
Happy Tuesday All,
Wow, sure sounds like ABB ripped up Kansas City.
Oh Stormy.........Bro you must be on fumes by now in those shoes 😀
Thanks to Lee for the info re: Detroit/DTE show this Sunday. Lee suggests Mesquite Creek, Pine Knob exit, nice patio and such. Any GB folks interested ? We'll be travelling Sunday morning to the fine state of Michigan. Can't wait 🙂

Our Mountain Jammed man! Last night I was in Music Heaven. This morning I am still in music heaven. I'm also at work but I'm not gonna let that interfere with my little place in music heaven.
Let me start with WOW! We were blessed with an Incredible show. It couldn't have gotten off to a better start. I take that back it could have started better if the local radio station hadn't decided to interview Gregg yesterday morning. Don't get me wrong I was all for them interviewing him. What I didn't like was the fact that they made cracks about Cher, and asked some pretty stupid questions about Gregg's Alcohol days. I didn't hear the first part but when I tuned in he was being a very good sport and discussing the effects of Alcohol & Drug abuse on his life & music. He was being serious. When Tanna Guthrie (Local DJ) decided to go left and take shots at Cher and Gregg's time with her, He didn't take to Kindly to it. Then She made some crack to the effect of "Did you make better music when you were drinking?" he seemed offended and rightfully so. You just don't take shots at someone elses ex-wife unless they start it first. Likewise you don't make wise cracks about Alcoholism to an Alcoholic. It is disrespectful and I would Like to Tell Gregg That we here in KC Love what he has provided us with, we appreciate the fact that he took the time to do the interview and I would like to apologize for our local station thinking a few cheap shots to get a laugh is more important than taking serious music seriously. That said, I had wonderfull Night.
I met Oldcoot at the Golden Ox where he had patiently been nursing beers waitng for the Peach Corps to arrive. It was great to meet you, and I am glad to see that you made it home safe (or somewhere safe). He had a long drive. Then Lana & Michael showed up and it was my pleasure to meet both of them for the first time. I must say that immediately I felt like we had known each other for years. A line from one of my favorite songs comes to mind "People can you feel it? Love is everywhere." If love isn't everywhere it certainly is where ever Lana goes. I beleive that. Then Stormy and Michael showed up and it was a real pleasure to meet both of you as well. I had been telling Jason (the bartenteder) to put all kinds of things on my tab all night and I know I racked up a big bill. When I went to pay it before we left, it had already been paid. Stormy you are a gracious host and I insist on making that one up to you. I have not said this in 20+ years and I mean it from the bottom of my heart... I have never met a nicer group of people in my life. I now know for certain that we are all really extended family and it is a great feeling. Oldcoot was generous enough to bring CD's of the ABB & DTB for everyone. Good ones too from what I've heard so far! Hey Steve, I have un uncredible urge for un un-cola this morning! Did I mention my wife also showed up in time really enjoy meeting everyone also. She say's "Hello". I was elected to lead the parade from the Ox to the show and did a darn fine job. Took us straight to the venue, then proceded to lead the parade around the block for the next 45 minutes because I had no idea where to park. After circling I found us spot about 16 miles from the venue...up hill which some people complained about but I knew it would be down hill on the way back! As it turned out it didn't matter on the way back I am not sure my feet even touched the ground. I just kind of floated back to the car.
Also did I mention something about music heaven? I was there last night! On to the show. Midnight Rider opened and it sounded really good. Troulble No More was Great. Derek Played killer slide licks. I know it sounded great but if you don't beleive me ask my sister because I dialed her number on my cell phone (She is in Atlanta) held it up and she listened to that and some of All Night Train before I hung her up. She usually hangs up first (little envy involved) cause she doesn't get to go to many shows these days. We then got Worried Down with the Blues and Old Coot is right (Youza). Dreams and DKMW were next and these songs are where the guy I used to call "that Kid that plays slide so well" proved that he could step out of his shell and let it rip. He tore these songs up with his slide work and you could hear his guitar so well. In the past I've said turn Derek's volume up and encourage him to let it rip because I saw and heard the talent but knew there was more. This was my 5th show with Derek in the band and HE LET IT RIP! It was just awsome! By the way his band opened, my 1st time seeing them and they are really good. My wife loved their set and I did too. I won't disect every song (I could go on for ever if you haven't noticed) but other real highlights for me were that I got to hear 2 songs that I have not seen the ABB perform live since 76. I wanted both of them last night and got them, Come & Go Blues was one, good to hear it dusted off including the 3rd verse and somehow I've been able to miss Stormy Monday for the last 25 years but I got it last night and D#mn Derek nailed it. Warren Nailed it too. I haven't forgotten Warren but I've come to accept the fact that he is going to amaze me every time I see him. Last night was no exception. Also I got another one I really wanted Nobody Left To Run With. Nobody was wonderin where Jimmy had gone last night. I was standing right in front of Derek with my mouth open and a glazed look of amazement on my face. Did I mention KC was in music heaven last night? We got our Mtn Jam and it was way cool all the way through. My wife even loved it and it's not her favorite. She was diggin the drum solo and Otiels fantastic bass & Scat. She usually goes for a smoke break on the long instrumentals. Not last night. She said it was her best concert ever! It was truly inspirational. Of the new songs, I liked them all but I really liked "Who to Believe" and I loved "Old Before My Time". Gregg is sounding incredible. I don't want to short the Freight Train they were there and in top form. It was a great night and I am on top of the world.
I mean this now... as great as the show was, I beleive getting to meet Lana, Michael, Oldcoot, Stormy and Michael really made the show for us, we had a great time and to hope see all of you again soon! Your comptutors have all run out of disk space so I'll take breath and be right back with more! Just kidding, DON'T MISS THIS BAND!
Jim in KC
...now I'm back to my ol' style..OK,
let me catch up by first saying how much I and friends enjoyed Dickey @
the Nashville show (HOG rally-thank you TOM!), and the total gracious and
hospitable way Dickey, Donna, Dan, and the rest of the band treated all of us. The visit on the bus was great and the "love was everywhere". I have been able to spend time w/Dickey over the years but this was a truly memorable visit. The band was incredible, the jams were of the "spirit", and Lee Roy Parnell was
jammin'!! What a nite!
Thanks to all of you who attended the Bama Jam..all enjoyed the music and fellowship of the brotherhood,
the Jam for Duane coming in Oct.
stay tuned!! Lots of "guests" who
played with Duane and Berry will be
in attendance and this years dedication will be in honor of Berry.
long live the spirit of brother Duane..
catch my band the Skydogs if you get a chance, you'll love the songs!

9-18-98....start chewing! LOL!
Good mornin' sweet family,
Whooo hoooo! <---- That's us still cheering from last night's show in KC! The Allman Brothers Band was completely in a transcendent, transplendent zone!! Wish they could have, what's that phrase? Oh yeah! Played all night! Said it then, will say it again now - if I've ever heard a better post-Duane era Dreams I'll eat my Canes jersey! Of course it's with me all the time ... you never know when you're going to land somewhere like Bates City, MO and need it for a photo op 😉 Old Coot! Stormy! KC Jimmy! *k**k**k* Did we have fun, or what?? Y'all are the finest brothers in the world and we sure love you ((group hug)). Also have to give credit to Jason, the bartender at the Golden Ox, for preparing the *perfect* Cosmopolitan. Way to go, Jason. It was also great to meet Will from/at his bookstore. Good luck on your new location!
An update: the folks at Alltel apologize for making a huge mistake last weekend. Tix for the 8/24 Raleigh show are set to go on sale this Saturday at 10:00AM Eastern time, as are tix for the 9/20 show at Hi Fi Buys in Atlanta.
Today's a travel day. We're headed 460 miles north to Minneapolis ... and may keep going an additional 125 miles to have supper on the shores of Lake Superior.
See you in the Minne-Apple tomorrow. Oh, Pat L., if you see this shoot me a PM with pre-info. I don't have access to regular email.
Take care and know that you are loved,
Lana
