I was just checking out some of the great photos of Dickey in the pictures section and I noticed there are not many pictures form the early 70s. I would be really great to see some. I'm not trying to put the pictures that are on there down in any way shape or form but some pictures on there are very similar to the many others on there. Also, I was just checking out some pictures of Duane that I posted a while back and noticed that very few people have posted comments. I wish other people would because I would love to see other peoples thoughts on the pictures. Have a good weekend everyone who reads this. All the best, trorrer

Hey, Jim, You might want to hear this before you go making a bunch of copies of what I sent you. It's REALLY interesting to see how the sound differs from one spot to another in a place, and with two really wonderful, veteran tapers. The rest of you, hang loose, OK? Workin' on it here...

Ryan, Yep, Frisell evokes similar feelings, doesn't it. Well, I know what I'll be doing this weekend - soaking it up into every pore. Hope you have a good one too. Take care, Stephanie

New dates are up on Derek's site. You southerners and Midwesterners get ready. I see another party at Josh's house comin' on.

Stephanie, Couldn't agree with you more regarding So Close, So Far as well as its locaton on the album. By far the best new instrumental I have heard in quite some time. It conjures up so many different emotions from me everytime I hear it. It truly is beautiful, soothing, inspirational... I also really like Frisell for many of the same reasons. Enjoy the weekend, Ryan

My copy of Joyful Noise just arrived. So Close, So Far Away sounds like sitar music at times. That track gives me a funny feeling in my chest that I interpret as the heart chakra opening. Oh my goodness..what a feeling. I wish they'd put that track last, however...Home in Your Heart is jarring by comparison. IMHO, not a criticism really, just a wish to stay in that space a little longer... Stephanie

Hey Folks, Lots of good stuff going around today. That was a great review of the new Derek album, good to see that it is getting the attention it deserves. Thanks for posting it Jean. The DTB/ABB double bill for Lakewood and Oak Mountian should help me get my Derek fix, just barely 🙂 I was also pleased to hear the reference to King Crimson. A very different vibe that the Allmans, to put it mildly, but an incredible band. It's a shame that Fripp can be so uptight and negative at times, but the man's skills cannot be denied. Anyone reading this who likes Jimmy Herring and hasn't heard King Crimson has some catching up to do! His playing is similar to Fripp's, in my opinion

hey, jim-eeeeeeee...how's the sound? i've got version # 2 coming to me for comparison. already sent out maybe 8 or 10 (one's on it's way to yugoslavia), but i'm anxious to hear another recording before i go nuts or anything. hey, i just heard a stretch of a mountain jam where someone quotes "Norwegian Wood," then someone fires back "Birdland," then they take off into about a minute and a half of THAT followed by some sorta psychedelic meltdown, topped off with an outro quote of "Birdland" and back into the main body of "Mountain Jam." I swear it's not quite like anything I've ever heard the ABB do before, although I've heard big swaths of Birdland before...it's kinda like that {awed expletive deleted} stuff that broke out during The Same Thing in Raleigh, or like what a friend of mines says is the Dark Star quote in the Raleigh "AWTNM," which of course was too subtle for these ears until someone pointed it out to me. Let me know whatcha think. Goliath, yours will be in the mail soon, whichever it is...;~) Now, back to the jail. Quote of the day (heck, quote of the career, I've heard it so many times): "If my momma had any money, I'd have me a paid lawyer." Pick one: "You think I'm doing this for FREE? As IF." "If your momma had any money you wouldn't be out ____ (fill in felony committed for really insignificant pecuniary gain)" or "OK, that's a good place to stop for today, I'll be back to see you really REALLY soon." All delivered with a sincerely cold smile.

You know, 'brofan' (am I the only one who prefers using people's actual names?), I keep coming back here and to the listservs just for the pleasure of reading intelligent, insighful comments like yours. Thanks for the DB & GS cd. Enjoyed it several times over this morning in my rotation. One of these days I'll have to put together another "high falls" cd or two to go along with the ones Beatty and Page made a couple years back. I sent Zoran a little package yesterday, as a consolation prize for the drubbing his team was gonna take -- NOT! (on the drubbing / consolation -- I really DID send a package.) Everyone have a great weekend! See ya in Salem! It's in the mountains, I'm going to start beggin for a big old fat mid-set Mountain Jam right now. ;~)

Well said Brofan. The album is just a monster, imo. Someday we'll all be saying 'I knew him when....' Y'all enjoy your weekend! 'just read that article about Susan - WHEN will the journalists get it right? Derek & Butch are F'n cousins! - not father/son!

Hi all, If anyone is in the NYC area tonight and would like to attend a benefit concert for the Widows and Orphans fund of the NYPD, NYFD and Port Authority PD. The Pipe Bands of these three departments and other visiting Pipe Bands are holding a Memorial Concert at The Javits center. It starts at 7:00 PM. The center is located at 35 St. and 11th Ave. $25:00 gets you in the door. I don't know if liquid refreshments are included in the price, but they will be available. Memorial Tee shirts are also available at $25:00. Be safe, John

Brofan...I recall seeing an interview with Bela Fleck in which he praises Sony Classic for giving him control over his Perpetual Motion project. (Classical music--not new by any means--but he introduces the banjo to the arrangements which is pretty far from mainstream.) Anyway, it didn't sound like the run-of-the-mill public brown nosing. He sounded genuine in his appreciation to the label for allowing him to stretch as an artist.

Brofan, I totally agree. Sony was most likely blown away by his abilities that they allowed him total freedom. I know Derek wouldn't have signed otherwise. And the result is this fantastically eclectic mix of music that stirs my soul to the core. Peace P.S. I'm on my way, baby!
