I would like to commend the security staff at the Syracuse Mule show - I mean, come on! The last think anyone needs/wants is a picture of him/herself smoking grass in public. 😎 😎 😎

Interesting letter to the editor, from the Syracuse NY Post-Standard CAMERA OFF-LIMITS AS POT-SMOKERS CARRY ON 11/12/2002 The Post-Standard Syracuse, NY To the Editor: I brought a digital camera to the recent Gov ' t Mule concert at the Landmark Theatre to take some photos for my own personal use. While taking a photograph, I was approached by a security person, escorted out of the theater and told to delete all the photos from the camera before re-entering. I was also told that if I was seen taking additional photos, the camera would be confiscated. At the same time, I observed countless people smoking both cigarettes and marijuana quite openly. I saw one group of four or five people in front of center stage passing a pipe while the house lights were on during the intermission. In fact, on one occasion I observed a security person pass only a few feet behind a group of people smoking pot. I find it hard to believe that security did not observe the open, widespread intake of marijuana. Concerning camera usage, I saw no signs stating "no cameras." There was nothing on the ticket other than some microscopic print on the back of the Ticketmaster ticket stating among other things, "in conformance with some local requirements or certain facility rules, certain items may not be brought into the premises, including without limitation, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, cameras and recording devices." However, what part of this applied to this particular performance was not indicated specifically, and audio recording of this show was allowed ( Gov ' t Mule allows it). I don't know whether security was provided by the concert promoter or the Landmark Theatre itself, but I think the priorities should be seriously reviewed. John Giroux Syracuse

from the DTB list ------------------- DTB live TV performance Talked to Marty after the incredible Columbus show last night. He shared two important announcements with me. 1. The DTB will not preform a New Year's Eve show. They are taking that day off. 2. This Saturday, Nov. 16 the CBS morning news show will be featuring a live segment of the DTB with Susan Tedeschi. It's gonna be an early bird special since Marty said the band has to get to the NY studio at 5:30 a.m. My cable listing shows CBS airs an a.m. programming format from 6-8 or 9 a.m. It was 2:30 a.m. when I was looking for this info so please check your local listing for your time zone. Get your VCRs ready!!!

Hi Stephanie So, "Sharp Distance...." got to you. Evelyn and I were just blown away by "Awaken"...did they do the light cascade at the crescendo near the end? By the way, if you go to www.rwcc.com, (Wakeman's website), you will see my name :), plus he has a link to his new supermodel girlfriend/partner. Get some rest 🙂 CRR

Carlos, I got the reference (and have read the book, The Picture of Dorian Gray)...but read your post at midnight after getting home from the Yes concert, too tired to respond at the time. I'll send you a PM tonight about the show...also JimHedderman, another Yes fan...it was an amazing show. During Heart of the Sunrise I began weeping, and wept for a good 20 minutes. That has never, ever happened to me at a rock concert, of any stripe. More later...hope everyone has a fabulous Wednesday! xxox Stephanie

Okay, I did my ABB-good deed for the day last night. I was waiting for the campus shuttle to take me to the parking lot when I notice this kid (you know you're getting old when you refer to college students as kids) trying to casually read my hat. I tell him, "It says The Allman Brothers Band". "Really? I'm a fan" he says. Well, immediately, I'm off and running, talking his ear off about the ABB. I tell him I'm going to NY this weekend to see Dickey Betts. He looks at me with a blank stare. "He sang Ramblin' Man" I tell him. "Oh, him", he says. Then he asks me if any of the original members are still in the band. So I give him an abbreviated history and tell him to check the website here. Then I gave him my business card and implore him to email me so I can get his address to send him some shows. I'm not sure which one of us was more excited.

Carlos...it's a dorm room...no room for paintings, just some movie posters (and one of Einstein), postcards of Robert Johnson and Bob Marley, and some stuff like that. RedTail, my man...everybody here is pulling for Jessica, but she's the one who has to do the heavy lifting. There are probably going to have to be days like today, just like in time we hope all will be well for years afterward. Keep pushing, any way you can.

So yesterday I got up, ready to enjoy a day off and do some serious chillin', maybe go to a movie, take an afternoon nap, some of that old timer kind of stuff. I checked my e-mail and saw one that I had saved about the Derek Trucks Band playing in Columbus that night. I thought to myself, "Self, don't you know someone in Columbus?" Then it hit me, duh, of course! My Peach To Beach buddies Dan and Chris were in fact Columbusites. Score! I called Dan, and he and Chris were all over going to the show. Had many cold ones on hand, and had baked some cookies, too. "And these aren't your grandmother's cookies," Dan told me. Triple letter score!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: So one thing led to another, badda boom badda bing, and I was headin' up I-71 at a high rate of speed--and getting pretty darn excited, too! According to mapquest.com, Columbus is 211 miles from Louisville. Not too bad, but not exactly right around the corner. Got there and found the guys ready for action so we commenced to tuning up in a big way for an hour or so. As an added bonus, the venue was only about five minutes away, a straight shot down...no kidding...High Street. Nice little room, much smaller than Southgate House in Newport last week, and definitely more intimate. Caught two or three songs of the openers the Zelinski Band, not too bad at all. The dTb hit the stage around 10:45 or so with the percussionist from Ekoostik Hookah sitting in, and they gracefully eased into "Rastaman Chant." It was about this time that we happened to notice a 40-something sister totally cuttin' a rug and groovin' to the side of the stage, looking quite stylish in her shiny black leather pants and matching stovepipe hat. More on her shortly. The percussionist stayed out for the first few songs, and really added a lot, I thought. I completely dig the arrangement of "Goin' Down Slow" that the band is doing, and I can't wait to hear them start to tweak it a bit as they go along. Another epic version of "Pedro", with Yonrico and Johnny (the Hookah guy) really getting off during the drum segment at the end. Rather than building the intensity with each tradeoff, the two of them started to get more and more subtle with their chops. The band brought it down, a little more each time. At one point when it was Yonrico's turn, he just stood up and rapped his sticks together. When it came back to him next, he treated the crowd to a moment of what could best be described as beat boxing, if I remember my hip hop lingo correctly. It was pretty wild. A totally smokin' show up to this point, and then the percussionist left the stage and things got really over the top. Derek played the first sweet notes of "Gonna Move", and the asses really started to shake. I simply LOVE that song! Makes me feel good all over. Next, Mike left the stage, and Yonrico stood up and introduced his sister Rhonda, in from Detroit for the gig. Oh, okay! The same woman we had seen movin' and groovin' over to the side of the stage. She took up her position, the band all exchanged big ol' grins, and then glided through a "Stormy Monday" that will have to be heard to be believed. Man!! Rhonda was really belting it out, and the crowd was responding to her in a big way. At the moment the song ended, Kofi jumped out from behind his keyboards and rushed to the center of the stage and threw his arms about Ms. Scott. Quite a moment! Next came a new song that the band has apparently just started playing, a first for me, called "The Making Of You." An old Curtis Mayfield balad, I later found out. Really nice, a good chance for Mike to show his stuff. A little on the lounge jazzy side for me, but I'm sure it will grow on me. The obligatory "Joyful Noise" was another rollicking thrill ride. At the Newport show the previous week, I had nearly fallen down from dancing so hard during the super uptempo gospelish parts of the song on two different occasions. Only swift, heads-up action from my friend dancing next to me kept me from hitting the deck. So last night I took it easy a little bit, tried to just stand and watch. Sure enough, saw a couple of other people almost fall down! :boomerang: The set closer was "Afro Blue", and as someone pointed out recently, the band is really doing some wonderful things with that song. It bore little resemblance to the one I saw last month in Indy, which bore little resemblance to the one I heard on July 4th in Nashville, and so on and so fourth. My favorite moment of the evening came during this tune when I opened my eyes and stopped twirling long enough to see that Derek had walked over towards Kofi's side of the stage, so that he was standing right next to Todd. All three of them had their eyes closed, and they were just jamming away. And then I looked back at Yonrico, and he was driving the bus, watching the rest of the band. Not with his usual eyes open wide, mouth agape hot dog look, but instead with a furrowed brow and a rather intense look on his face, hunched over the drums somewhat, sticks moving so fast I couldn't even see them. Just amazing. If I could have one image of the band frozen in time and framed above my desk, that would be it. Totally awesome!! I was pretty much toast after that, but the "Feel So Bad" encore was fun neverthless, the Hookah percussionist as well as the guitarist came out, and it all worked quite well. Overall, just a phenomenal show, everyone looked and sounded great. Another bangup job by Joe and Marty making sure everything was just right, I might add. Probably the most enthusiastic crowd that I've seen at a Derek show, which was great to see. I woud guess that it was mostly comprised of Ohio State students, as Little Brother's was right on the edge of campus. And yes, there were two or three tapers there, so I imagine this one will make it around soon enough--get it when it does, trust me on this one. I noticed one of them wearing an Allmans shirt and thanked him for all of his hard work, but I stopped short of giving him my e-mail address and groveling, as I figure those guys get enough of that already. Shoot, man, what else could I ask for? The band just keeps on amazing me. Can't wait for more! Bravo, guys, braaaah-VOH!!! 😀

Thanks for all the healing words GBers. Jess came home tonight at 8:30 after all day at school then 4 hours of Sylvan Learing Center. Long day for a totally well kid huh? These are the pressures she endures to keep up in school and maintain her GPA. Well she was in tears and about to loose it by the time she got home. Seems this morning she had trouble parallel parking and some kid mouthed off at her, something about a "dim bulb". She got emotional and cried, then in 2nd period a kid asked if her "brain damage" was bothering her...then there were some notes passed around apparently saying she was as "looney as a tune." She had a VERY rough day. We have has people from Shepherd Clinic in Atlanta come and speak to the faculty and students at her school to explain her circumstance. But here we are 4 months into the new school year and this junk continues...Kids can be so damned mean! She was really shaken to the core today, but managed to get through it and come home and cry in the old man's arms. I was gonna tell her how many people had written to me today in support, praying, and wishig her well , but it was not the time of course. She would have said " Well it didn't work, did it?" I can only pray, that all of your prayers and good thoughts will start working tonight and that tomorrow will be a better day for her, and Ma and Pa too. I don't mean to be a drag, especially since you were all so supportive today. Thanks again for all the kindness. I hope some of your prayers and well wishes rub off on the other kids too! We need that to happen soon! Here are some thoughts from me to you ....Grab someone you love, hold them tight, and tell them how you feel. You never know when an event can suddenly change your world. Good night Brothers and Sisters, thanks so much again! Michael "RedTail Wolf"
