Hey now! How y'all doin' today?
Just wanted to say hello, I'm off to New York tomorrow for some serious music and fellowship. Looking forward to seeing everybody, especially at the Hospitality Sweeties' party on Friday night and the Left Coasters' party on Saturday night. Can't wait to place a few more faces with the names.
You ready, Corn Dog?!?
BEACONBEACONBEACON!!!
:bounce::bounce::bounce:
Good morning all! 🙂
Woodyca, sorry that you're not going to make it to the Beacon this year.
Hope you get a left coast run later this year!
I'm also listening to Hittin' the Note right now. I'm not yet ready to compare it to other ABB albums, although I'm inclined to agree with Gregg's assessment ...
The one thing that I feel most about HTN at this point is -- IT IS AN ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND ALBUM! Greater praise I cannot give.
Sheesh. A standout album. The Beacon run. Amazing set lists. LAYLA!
Someone pinch me. Wait -- on second thought, don't. I'm happy just like I am!
Is there anybody out there who is from Macon????????
Just a few bits of info. I noticed on some of the forum pages, people are questioning the origins of some of the blues songs the band has been performing at the Beacon thus far. As for "Who's Been Talking", that is an old Chester Burnette tune, better known as Howlin' Wolf. Also, 44 Blues, which was written by Roosevelt Sykes, was a standard Howlin' Wolf tune, whose version the brothers got it from as did Derek on his second album Out of the Madness. Its Wolf's version that kicks ass. "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" is an old Sonny Boy Williamson tune that a plethora of bands and musicians have covered. I just thought I would offer some insight. I also think the new album is a great statement by the band. Great recording!
Some of my first memories have to do with the ABB... Hittin the Note truly hit the core!!!!
Hittin' The Note hit just the right note with this Jersey girl. Thanks guys, you're the best!!!! Three days and counting yahhooo!!!
Hey! Don't you be dissing my man Glenn Miller. It may have been my parents favorite, but it was Real Music. No hype, no market research, just wonderfully talented musicians playing music they loved. I still enjoy it.
On the other hand, I just picked up my copy of HTN and my soul is SINGING! God Bless the Allman Brothers Band!
Wow! Hittin' the Note is awesome! Can't wait to crank it up again on my way to work tomorrow. Just love that "Who to Believe". Guess I'll be listening to this one quite a bit this week - even some of it live!
The Best Damn Band in the Land has done it again!
:pmusic:
There are not enough words to say how good Hittin' the Note is. I got chills listening to this CD not felt since hearing listening to Blue Sky when I was younger and first fell in love with this band. They broke new ground here while staying true to their sound. Nothing on HTN is an "acquired taste" these songs are instant favorites and will be listened to thousands of times over. I'm buying 2 or 3 more copies for friends.
The best band in the world.
2old2boogie, I hear ya. I remember suffering listening to my parents records of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Sinatra, Dukes of Dixieland etc.
Then it struck me a few years back that having heard those groups is very much the reason I got into John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Billy Cobham.
Maybe my folks weren't so musically challenged as I originally thought, LOL.
(The Andy Williams however, was still crap.)
2old2boogie mentioned Fairway across the street from the Beacon, which reminded me of something that I somehow forgot about. During the intermission Saturday night, I stepped out front to have a smoke and lo and behold.....there was an 18-wheeler right smack dab on Broadway parked on the side of the road. The logo of the particular produce company was down the side of the trailer. Dammit if I can't remember the company's name, but it said "[Company's] Fresh Mushrooms". Too damn funny. Did anyone else see that?
Got the CD. Love it! Wondering if anyone knows why they decided to put a Stones cover tune on there??? Send me a PM if you know.
Thanks!!!
Just heard "High Cost..." on the radio here in not-so-sunny South Cackalaki. That in addition to lots of airtime for "Firing Line." Way to go Brothers, that's some great stuff.
For anyone who'll be around on Friday morning, go to J & R Music to see Sonny Landreth for FREE!

EAPFP (Eat A Peach For Peace): Hey, I've got an idea. How about everyone who goes to the Beacon for the rest of the run, first go to Fairway across the street, buy a Peach, and bring it in the theater. At some point during the show or intermission, everyone could EAT A PEACH FOR PEACE at the same time. It's cheaper than the $6.50 beers!
Old coot, yes, you're right! I did listen to Jimmie Rogers, Robert Johnson, Woody Guthrie as well as lots of other old blues and Jazz from the 30's - I just forgot! I was thinking more of my parents music, ie. big band, Sinatra, etc., that I really didn't like.
Hopefully, the ABB will keep going with new members replacing the old members as they fade away or retire, and the music will live on and keep getting better!
2old2boogie, I understand the context of your post, how many bands would be playing their own songs 34 years later? Darn few.
It illustrates that exceptional music (or other art) is in fact timeless.
Still, in '69 had you not heard any Robert Johnson, Jimmie Rodgers or Woody Guthrie tunes (all circa 1935), either by themselves or covered by others?
Chances are you had.
Hopefully, 34 years from now, people will still recall the ABB. That is one thing that frustrates me continually is that far too few people have been exposed to the material that the original ABB performed and specifically Duane and Berry. Hint, more archive releases, please!
That's one of the things that impressed me about Duane and still impresses me about Derek, to grow and expand the music now, one has to understand what made it possible.
