The original ABB was and still IS unstoppable.
Keep the reviews coming. 😎
I noticed that some of th set lists show "Who's been talk'n" Can someone tell me if that is the "who's been talk'n" from the Howlin Wolf London Sessins album that has Clapton, Winwood and the Rolling Stones rythem section as back up? Kick ass arrangement. Does anyone know if that is what they have been playing?
2 tix for 3/22 in lower balcony, row D, seats 27 & 29. Meet me in Blondies, 212 W. 79th St between 5:00 and 7:30. I'll have an ABB hat on w/the Peach truck from the EAP album. Respectfully, Jeff
What's going on tonight for after hours shows? I was too late to get in on the DTB show, so what else is happening? I'd love to catch a late night sit in by one of the boys.
Oh, good. Some of us have decided that bringing the negative comments back is a good idea! How nice!
hey gang good morning:cool:
loving the reviews & stories more please:bounce:
yes the new cd is AWESOME
Heading into the Big Apple in a few hours. Can't wait!
Sorry MikeC. but the Fillmore Brothers STILL has it over this incarnation.. If the evil side of Fate had not stepped in, the original ABB would have been unstoppable..
Two more cents on the 2003 Brothers; After two weeks with the new CD and reading the set lists (nope, no Beacon for me again....), it is abundantly clear that these guys have successfully regrouped and have come out of the gates smoking pure fire. Layla? Into the Mystic? Change is Gonna Come? A new disc of tunes AND the ABB library? I challenge any band from any era to match the 2003 ABB. No one in their right mind could find fault with this line up. Now if they would only do a Beacon run in the summer so I could go....... EAPFP.
Last night's setlist - I think the first 2 songs are right; travel problems made us get there late - was:
Set I:
Done Somebody Wrong
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
Trouble No More
Desdemona
Hot'Lanta
Leave My Blues at Home
A Change is Gonna Come**
The Same Thing*
Set II:
Don't Want You No More>
It's Not My Cross to Bear
Statesboro Blues
Rockin' Horse>
No One to Run With
Dreams
Into the Mystic**
Southbound*
Instrumental Illness>Drums>Bass>Instrumental Illness
e: Layla
* = featuring Chris Karlic, Jay Collins, and Richard Boulger (horns from Gregg's band)
** = first time played; featuring horns
Gregg sang A Change is Gonna Come, Warren sang Into the Mystic
The guys also broke out a cover of a Sam Cooke song, something like "A Change is Gonna Come." It featured the horns from Gregg's band; they also played on Same Thing, Into the Mystic and Southbound. Desdemona was wonderful as always. Derek took the only solo on Dreams. Layla was incredible; I feel privileged to have seen it played. More later.
Please forgive me, but I have to comment on the statement "Derek's playing is emotionless...". I don't know who the comment was directed to but it certainly could not be Derek Trucks. Two & a half years ago, I said he was a great guitar player but just not up to snuff to play with ABB. This was not to insult him or his talent. I just felt that since seeing the Brothers since '71, a few months after Duane passed, that these were some big shoes to fill especially the demand for one to improvise as the role he fullfills demands. In the last year & a half, he has reached a musical plateau and has transended himself as a musician. Listen to ABB in early '70 recordings then go on to listen to '71 recordings at the time of "Live At Fillmore". There is a tremendous musical maturity that has taken place in this duration. That critical time on the road playing night after night just started to really come together. You hear it now with Derek being able to play with Warren & the rest of the band. He's only in his mid 20's. What will he be like when he's 40?????!!!!!!! Not only do I feel he fits in with ABB, but I feel Derek is an asset that on a good night will raise the inspiration of the band to push them beyond greatness, just as Warren does. Just because he may not show emotion on physical level does not mean he does not display emotion. I think he plays with amazing passion. I realize the implication of these statements, but if you had been to last Saturday night's show, March 15, you might understand what I'm trying to relate. Thanks for letting me go on so long, but I just felt I it to be said. Nick
Hey , Hey , Hey!!! Just got in from the Beacon and my God they are great. First the Hosp. Sweeties bash was great. Did not stay there long but met many of the great family. In no special order and (I am very drunk right now) saw , Lee from Mich. Randall, Johnny Fish Camp, Brofan, Stormy(wish I could of speny more timewith those 2 fantastic bros.) GPM finally, Jeanne, Jodi, TerriB, Corny and wife, and many more. I honestly will try to post the rest of the people because I cannot think straight right now. Needless to say I met many fantastic bros. and sisters!!! On to the show.
Amazing. Opened w/ Done somebody wrong. Closed with .......Yes Layla Again on a Fri!! Snuck in a great cover of Van Morrisons "into the mystic " as well. All and all a great show. Gotta go because it has been a LONG night. Peace y'all and great meeting everyone!!
I don't miss Dickey going off on tangents and dragging songs down when he was too drunk to carry the tunes. I saw the Allman Brothers at Merriweater Post in the early 90s and Dickey couldn't be there because he was in jail for beating up his wife. I will miss songs like Blue Sky, Ramblin' Man, Seven Turns, Jessica on new albums. Hittin' the note proves to me that Dickey leaving the band was necessary, the music flows better now and the writing is great. I am a Dickey fan but I don't think he's comming back to the Allman Brothers and after hearing Hittin' the Note, I don't want him to. I'll buy his solo stuff and see him live though
I called the gang at the Beacon tonight....talked to Bruce, Terri B and Jacquie.......wishing so much I was there with y'all. Hope you got to hear Wasted Words and Layla...damnnnn what a setlist.
Love you all and I am there in spirit

Does anybody have a ticket or 2 for tomw. nite have the flu divorce etc. will respond
Folks, I don't post very often, mostly lurking but man I can't calm down over HTN. This cd is, excuse me, F*CKN
awesome. God bless Gregg Allman and the boys!!! I see him every chance I get. The songwriting of his and now Warren just hit me hard. We've all been somewhere we don't want or shouldn't be and the songs of GA ring true in so many ways. God bless all and keep on peaching.
Woe Yo! Three shows? Plain Vanilla? No Emotion? Huh. I'm taking my thirteen year old son to see Dereks band in April. I want to expose him to a true musician. I hope to teach him the difference between a performer and someone who prances around the stage, jumping up and down acting like a goof while getting the most out of the three chords they know. Derek has more soul in his little finger than most musicians have in their whole body. Don't confuse physical stillness with lack of fire. I can't believe someone could sit through even one show listening to Warren and Derek alone and not leave feeling totaly energized. Picking up HTN on the way home tonight. Cranking up the volume and cranking down a few cold Buds. AHHHHHHHHHHH- FRIDAY alas. Have fun in NYC everybody. Can't wait 'til the summer tour. How about 5 nights at the Chicago Theatre? EAP
