Scott - got a solution for the funding issue of both a wedding and the Beacon. Bring the fam to NYC and get married onstage between sets one night. How romantic...
Scott, congrats on the great news
Now, for the important question 🙂
Are you working on a pre-nup for the ABB collection? 🙂
Cheers

Wow. How cool is this?!?
:-p
Thanks so much for all of the kind words. Nicole and I are super excited and have a lot to look forward to.
For the record, she is all about the Brothers. We went to our first show together in Cincinnati on July 1, and had a terrific time. And she isn't just along for the fun of the ride, either. A couple of weeks before the show, I loaned her "Beginnings," "Live At Fillmore East," "Eat A Peach" and "Hittin' The Note." She immediately started making some very astute comments--that she loved the raw energy of "Beginnings," that "Live At Fillmore East" was the best live album that she had ever heard, she loved "that 33 minute song" on "Eat A Peach," and so on.
When I mentioned that "that 33 minute song" was my favorite song of all time, she said that she could see why.
Oh yeah!!!
A really thrilling moment for me came when she pulled up to my house one afternoon absolutely blasting "You Don't Love Me" from the Fillmore album, and I could see her bouncing around and playing drums on the steering wheel. She got out of the car and said, "This one is definitely my favorite!"
:inlove2::inlove2::inlove2:
As Karen mentioned, Nicole accompanied me on my trip down south for the Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh shows, and we had a fantastic time. On our long drive back, we talked a lot about the possibility of getting married next spring, and one thing she said that just about made me run the car off the road was something to the effect of how were we going to save money for a wedding and still go to a couple of Beacon shows in March?
:inlove2::inlove2::inlove2:
Okay, enough about me. In all the hoopla, I forgot to make a post that I had planned on making today. As most of y'all probably know, today is the 40th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech. A plaque to commemorate the spot where Dr. King delivered his speech in front of Lincoln Memorial was dedicated last week, and I was proud to learn that the impetus for creating the plaque came from a man right here in Louisville by the name of Tom Williams.
A few years ago Mr. Williams and his wife travelled to Washington, and while they were there, they looked for the place where Dr. King had stood, but there was nothing to mark the spot. So, when he returned to Louisville, he wrote our Congresswoman, Anne Northup, to ask if something could be done. He explained that he hoped to return to Washington someday with his children--children not yet born at that point--and that he wanted to take them to the very place from which, in his words, "the soul of a nation had been touched and changed for good."
Mr. Williams made a brief address to the crowd at the dedication of the plaque last week, and one of the things he said that I really liked was that he felt the great Kentucky-born president gazing down from the monument would be pleased by what they were doing that day.
Sorry for the long post, but here is a little piece of Dr. King's speech that really hit home with me:
"I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all the flesh shall see it together. This is our hope. This is the faith with which I return to the South. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day."

Congrats to Scott and Nicole. Wishing y'all all the best!

Oops, sorry to have forgotten Warren. Oh well, that mean FOUR of the top 100 guitarist in the RS poll have been members of the Allman Brothers Band. You know, it's about time that Duane and the Allman Brothers Band are finally get the respect that they should have been getting all along.
http://www.rollingstone.com/features/coverstory/featuregen.asp?pid=1917
RS probably shoulda limited it to 100 greatest *rock* guitarists of all time, as i'm sure there are a myriad of bluegrass, jazz, etc. guitarists out there that can blow smoke rings around the likes of a kurt cobain or one of those pearl jam guys. but still kinda silly to be doing these lists anyway.
funny interview i remember with jimmy page from back in the early 90s. i think he played on a couple tracks on plant's solo album of the time, so they did a joint interview with someone -- maybe it was mtv, can't recall. but they asked page what he thought about the new grunge guitarists, i think mentioning pearl jam and nirvana by name even, and page had a great response.....something to the effect that they'd probably be great guitar players if they ever bothered to learn how to play their instruments. he went on to compare them to 2nd or 3rd year players who should still be playing in a garage somewhere, then go through the club scene to hone their skills, etc., etc. before hitting arenas. and i know, i know.....someone will say that this thought-line misses the whole point, that grunge was about the anti-musician movement, etc.....but jeez, taking the time to learn a few barre chords shouldn't get you a recording deal, let alone number 12 on a list of the 100 greatest ever.
Jeff Beck and Jimmy Herring should both be in the top 10.
My $0.02.
carry on...
Congratulations, Scott. May you both have many happy years together.
I wanted to say THANK YOU, for about the 1000th time, to Wayne, the most generous brother out there, for the Chicago shows, as well as other assorted treats. They sound almost as good as the Instant Live discs I heard from the Charlotte show. Like many say, there is NOTHING that can lift your spirits like getting one of those yellow packages in the mail. It's been a very tough year, and Wayne, you really hit the note like you do every time. Listening to the Blue Sky portion of the Mountain Jam from the Chicago Theater 7-29 show sent chills up and down my spine again. As Berryfan said the day after this show, what a classy move by Derek Trucks to pay tribute to Dickey-he even cops a couple of Dickey's licks without imitating him-just honoring him. That's a very difficult thing to do.
Anybody heading to see Dickey at the Rider's Ranch Sunday for Harley's 100th get in touch. Since it looks like Dickey's last show for a while, it oughta be a great one-at least 3 hours worth. Should be a great way to end the summer with with a bang.
Congrats Great Scott!!!
Yay!
Scott,
Congratulations to you and Nicole! I am happy for you Bro!
Take care,
Ryan
Good morning,
Congradulation Great Scott!
Now that there has been all the discusion over the guitar players,
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ACCORDION LIST,
Cheers, Charlie
Just read your post Great Scott, beautiful!
Congratulations to you and Nicole!
:fanfare:
Good morning!
I guess I'll add my $0.02 on the RS list. Glad to see Duane at the top and Dickey, Derek and Warren on there. Can't believe Bonnie Raitt isn't on there! Also 2 others I've seen mentioned here already, Chet Atkins and Joe Satriani. I'd like to know how they come up with these lists anyway. There are others from the jazz and country camps that shoulda been in there too.
I think someone else said it, at the least, these "greatest" lists spark some good discussion. :guitarist:
Have a great day folks. I'm off to do back to school shopping with the boys. 😮
Best to Lee's daughter today! 🙂
:fanfare:
Congratulations Great Scott and Nicole!
:fanfare:
Jeanne...great story!
