:fanfare: Just called my local Borders bookstore.....ABB - Beacon Theater DVD on sale in the morning at 9:00 am at introductory price of $23.99...Thanks Borders!!! :fanfare:
Most days are good days.
Then there are the GREAT days.
A few are THE memorable days you'll never forget.
And then, some days, the stars align... everything comes together...you realize why and how you got 'here'.... and that's the day you go to Morrison, Colorado and witness the Allman Brothers Band at Red Rocks.
Thank fellas - Thanks for takin' me to the Mountain Top. 😎
Thanks again to all for posting the super Red Rocks reviews. I know that a lot of these folks who contribute regularly aren't given to "greatest show ever" hyperbole, so I'm thinkin' the show was really THAT good.
Waiting on a B&P offer so I can hear it myself! Anyone, anyone?
😀
Questioning authority is not unpatriotic. Scrutinizing the decisions and policies of a government that is supported by our tax dollars is not treasonous. Dating all the way back to the guys in Boston who threw tea in the harbor (funny how history views them as heroes), it is the AMERICAN WAY!!!
I listened and read as Republicans, conservatives and right-wingers ripped President Clinton a new a**hole on a daily basis for eight years--and they're STILL doing it!!! Then those same people turn around and brand anyone who even looks sideways at the actions of the current administration as un-American. It isn't fair, and it isn't right.
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. End rant.
And I absolutely support our troops, but in my opinion this "war" is a joke. Now President Bush wants $87 billion more? With SO MUCH work to be done here at home? Where does it end?

I just read the article "2002 Retrospective" posted by Donnah on the Forum. I believe this is the best yet. The author must be near my age and from around here, or else he did tremendous research. Next month we will be celebrating the life and times of Bro. Duane. This article captures why we want to do this. EAPFP, and long live the spirit of Bro. Duane. And thanks Donnah for posting it.
Yes Zambi, That is one hell of a list!
Just catching up on all the posts and reviews from the big Red Rocks blowout...I don't think I've ever heard so many ultra-great, super-positive, unbelievably fine reviews for an ABB show before...anytime, anyplace any lineup! In fact almost everyone has called it the best show they have been to by any band...period. I'm real happy for the folks that attended and glad for all the reviews. Red Rocks really is a special place and brings out the very best in the very best bands. I saw a few magickal Dead shows there that I'll never forget.
I guess theres no time to rest for Warren as usual...cause Phil and friends will be starting a mini-tour in a few days...Oh well that Warren for ya, just can't seem to say no to anybody.
What a kindhearted soul and what a damn fine musician...glad we have him!
Oh yeah, Beacon DVD tomorrow!!! WooHoo!
Oh, and Warren's solo full-length LP supposedly is coming out after the new year.
So, with the thing about the Beacon companion CD. Anyone heard anything more about whether or not that will be released? Can't find anything about it anywhere. Just the DVD. I know it's difficult to copy DVD-video to either DVD-r or VHS, but does anyone know how hard it is to copy the audio tracks from a DVD over to CD-R? If it's only for yourself, and you purchased the DVD, then I believe it's a legitimate fair use exception to the copyright infringement laws to make a copy for yourself.
So, in response to finally finding Warren's Benefit Concert, Vol. 2 in the retail outlets' computer systems (with an October 21st release date), I had an e-mail exchange with a friend about all the releases by the ABB extended-family in the last 12-18 months. This is unbelievable when you put it down in a list:
OPM - Family Secret
dTb - Joyful Noise
dTb - Soul Serenade
Mule - Deep End, Volumes 1 and 2
Mule - Rising Low DVD
Warren Haynes - EP
ARU - The Calling
ABB - Hittin' the Note
ABB - Stony Brook, 09.19.71
ABB - American University, 12.13.70
About to be released:
Mule - Deepest End DVD and live CD release
OPM - Live in B'Ham (??)
ARU/ABB/Mule - Benefit Concert, Vol. 2
ABB - Live at the Beacon DVD (supposedly a companion CD too ??)
ABB - Live at Atlanta Pops Festival, 1970
ABB - At Fillmore East, Deluxe Edition
Am I missing anything here? That sure seems like a lot of tunes by our favorite musicians.
RED ROCKS ROCKED!
What a great show. The night started off with my 2 favorite ABB songs, I could have gone home satisfied (fulfilled with need) but the show lifted me and crowd to a higher level.
Dreams, Whippin Post, Mountain Jam and of course Layla completed the night. I've seen the Bros 27 times and this show is in the top 3 of all times. ***ABB ROCKS***

Just wanted to pop in here and let the GB crew know that our friend Donnah has posted some great old reviews and articles over in the Duane forum. Some great reading there the past couple days!:)
Thanks Donnah for all the great reading material! You definitely should visit here more often.
Go on and have a look over in the forum, you will be very glad you did, and don't worry, I wont tell anyone you all were there.;)
That show... That show was the reason I've been dragging my a$$ out to see them year after year.
Stormy, well I believe the ONLY thing lacking at Red Rocks as far as a venue is concerned is not having an oxygen station about halfway up those entrance stairs. Too tough on this ol' flatlander.
I shared a phone call with Stormy and several PM's with others who were at the show and it is just impossible to put into proper words how spectacular that show was last Friday night. I said that describing the level, brilliance, magnificence of that show to someone who didn't witness it first hand is like trying to describe the venue Red Rocks to someone who has never been there. You just can't do it.
From start to finish it is the finest performance I've heard this band put forth since I started attending shows some 31 years ago. It was THAT good.

Special Thanks to Denza, Clay,NY Scanner & Linda for the music.

Another tour come and gone. This one was memorable. Glad to have caught 4 shows and heard many more thanks to the generousity here. Even though some shows had "bigger" setlists than others, each show I caught was equal in intensity. These guys were out to play on this tour and weren't about to waste a note. Many, many highlights. Karl Denson added a real nice dimension to the band and it was also a vision the band had back in the early days. Desdemona in Santa Barbara & Vegas both had the same arrangement of Derek slide solo > Karl > Warren. Those two versions are probably the biggest lasting memory of the shows I saw. So many others though. Susan singing Don't Think Twice and it seemed each version Derek grew more confident with his slide solos and just ripped tremendous ones. Great new additions to the sets with 44 Blues, Schoolgirl & Who's Been Talking. Mt Jams that have broke the original tradition to seek new adventures. All the old songs played with conviction and sounding as fresh as ever. Thanks Gregg, Butch, Jaimo, Warren, Marc & Derek and all the guests!!!! Bring on The Beacon!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU Allman Brothers Band for coming to Puyallup! It has been WAY too long since you were in our neck of the woods. The show was great--please come back next year.

Stormy, glad to see that you made it back home safely...sorry that I didnt get to see you on Friday...we missed you Saturday night in Boulder...wish that you had been there...the taping of the Etown show with Derek is a night that will always rank as one of my very BEST!!!
Of course, my hosts Cathy and Steve from Denver, Johnny, Tommy and Jeanne also made the night extra special!!!
Dont miss this show when it airs!!!!!
Well I called Southpaw to see how he liked the show and then I talked to my crew from colo and they all said the brothers were so on friday nite.
My buddy Carson has been going to shows at Red RockS since the early to mid 70's and said this was THE SHOW at the ROCKS
Of course this was the show I did not make. My Colorado contingency asked me to ask the GB if anyone gets this show there is much we can trade for it. Let me know and I'll make it worth your while.
Glad all who traveled to see this show had a good time. sorry i did not get a chance to meet you. Stormy, Red Rocks is just a little nicer than Roosevelt Stadium !
