Woody, I partially agree on the "Dead" issue. But they did and do play some good music, some even commercially successful, ie.; Touch of Grey. Very inovative, jammin stuff but they ain't sold me a record either. spdb Jam for Duane '04 coming!

Been working too hard- so here's a little break. EVER WONDER Why the sun lightens our hair, but darkens our skin? Why women can't put on mascara with their mouth closed? Why don't you ever see the headline Psychic Wins Lottery"? Why is "abbreviated" such a long word? Why is it that doctors call what they do "practice"? Why is it that to stop Windows 98, you have to click on "Start"? Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavor, and dishwashing liquid made with real lemons? Why is the man who invests all your money called a broker? Why is the time of day with the slowest traffic called rush hour? Why isn't there mouse-flavored cat food? When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it? Why didn't Noah swat those two mosquitoes? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? You know that indestructible black box that is used on airplanes? Why don't they make the whole plane out of that stuff? Why don't sheep shrink when it rains? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of progress? If flying is so safe, why do they call the airport the terminal? -------------------------------- So friggin stoked for the Beacon. Can I hear a mtn jam? peace love and ready to party--scotty

I think the Brothers and The Dead should play a weekend series at Lakewood. Best 2 out of 3 wins 🙂

May I go on the record and say that I hope their is not an ABB/Dead tour. I like both bands but I prefer to see ABB with a good opening band. If it were a co tour many of the people attending would be there to see the Dead. I like the vibe of people being at an ABB show because they love the Brothers.

From what I've heard, Zambi, the combo shows may be out west. Rumors of a co-headlined Red Rocks run have been swirling.

On the Dead/ABB co-bill thread, first I gotta say that I hope the co-bill doesn't happen in the South, or at least in Atlanta. The ABB does fine on their own down here. And the Dead sold out Lakewood last summer with $60 lawn tix, so they don't need a co-bill here either. Though, I'd probably change my mind if they did TWO nights here. Anyway, the co-bill idea might make more sense out West, for the ABB anyway, where the ABB has weaker support and the Dead has its strongest support. My $0.02 anyway. If the ABB/Dead link-up does happen, and Warren finds that a good 25 minute breather per night would help his stamina, it would be cool if Warren sat out a couple tunes and let a Derek/Jimmy ABB lineup play "Jessica" and "Loan Me A Dime," among others. They killed those tunes in 2000, IMHO.

Both bands have gone hand in hand for me since I first heard them. I fell in love with Live Dead about a year or so before I fell in love with Fillmore East. I was in junior high in the early eighties, and those two albums just floored me...completely changed my life. The Dead were still a touring machine at that time, and getting tapes was easy...so a Deadhead was born. I caught my first show in 85 and never looked back. Those first five years were great (the second five were hit and miss, and I caught fewer and fewer shows each year) and I probably saw 50 of my 60+ Dead shows during that time period. During that same time, the Brothers' music was never out of my possession. LAFE, EAP, and Brothers & Sisters were in the tape case on every trip. Hell, I used to blast the Fillmore album out of my radio in Dead lots. But, getting to see them at that time was just not a possibility...until 1990. I missed my chance to see the "new fangled ABB" in 89, but not 90. In 1990 I finally got to see my "other" band and another "must see live" obsession came screaming into my life. A couple years after that the wife and I had our first "Beacon Experience" and all hell broke loose. :alienglow: Sooooo...my only problem with an ABB/Dead show would be shorter sets for each band. I want full shows for each! 💡 How 'bout a little Vibes like fest with both bands and their spin-offs? 💡

Lana, if those tix for my birthday are still available, Kevin wants to surprise me with them....You say they're good seats at face value? thanks in advance... Leah, dont laugh, Kevin and I saw Kid Rocks lead guitar player (I forget his name) with Lee Roy Parnell and Larry McCray at Biketober Fest 03 in Daytona and all 3 guitars stepped up and tore the town down. Woody - PhillyBob - I have to agree - was never into the Dead either - too soft for me - but a friend of mine who was a big Dead Head was taking me to my first show when unfortunately Garcia departed - thats the beauty of music - theres something for everyone!!

A Joke!(just a joke, nobody died) Woody what did the Dead head say when he came down off the cid? This music Sucks! After 100 + shows I would have to say the music alwaysmade me feel good (and still does), even on their off nites which I have to admit were numerous. Garcia/Hunter songs are classics and thats what I feel keeps my attention 30+ years after my first show. ABB/Dead line up for me is HEAVEN! Thank you boys for still doing what you do. Western Shows PLEASE

Michael, haven't got it yet! Duh me.... It however was from memory one fine show. I was 16 and having the best wild time of my then life and I'm sure that and the organics had nothing at all to do with my review of the show. I know the entire Academy of Music crowd insanely thought it was pretty good too, the balconey was doing the shimmy shim for sure

Nice post, Linnie! ( ) I got into the ABB around seventh grade, but I didn't "try" the Grateful Dead until I went away to college later on. In some silly way, their name didn't "encourage" me to check them out sooner, I think. I'll agree with Lammie and Eddie about Europe '72--it's one of my desert-island-discs, for sure. Bird, is the recent Dick's Pick's release of that Academy of Music show from '72 ('73?) that you went to worth getting? Now playing in the classroom: "Soul Serenade"... :guitarist: Eleven and twelve-year olds are making "Warren faces" at the moment. Back to work!

aw I love the Dead! woodyca, i didn't "get them" at first either, i used to think that they where some REALLY, REALY heavy metal band since whenever i saw their logo it was a skull....and no one i knew in HS listened to them....so they scared me till i graduated circa '89 - (considering i was into some REALLY, REALLY Heavy Metal at the time i had NO idea what the hell the Dead was all about!) my husband turned me on to them and i went to see a show...i felt like i got lifted up and was looking down on myself, and became a dancing fool at that very moment. I can't explain it, but the same thing happened to me last night while doing the dishes and listening to a Jerry Garcia Band show - when "Deal" came on next thing i knew i was spinning and twirling all around the kitchen. Perhaps the Dead bring out the best, or the silliest in people. who knows. 🙂 i wish i was more into the Dead when i was younger. their songs are beautiful, funny and sometimes they kick some serious ass. kinda like the Bros.! (cept the Bros. kick ass all the time!) But, it is soo cool having an entire genre of music available to me that hasnt been shoved down my throat my whole life. Have a nice day everyone.
