Red Dog,
You know the Band better than I ever will but..
Chuck should not be made a member and probably would not want it. Comitting to putting the ABB above any other projects may not be in his best interest. AND he certainly has not been given any ownership in the Stones. While he may play in front of a lot more people with the Stones most of them don't even know who he is. Ask any ABB fan who Chuck is and they will grin and say, " Are you kidding?" I'm not suggesting he would play for minimum wage but I doubt he would demand or even want membership. A hired hand can still make a lot of money and that is ALL he is to te Stones. I love Chuck and what he brings to the band but how many seats would he sell at a solo show? For that matter NONE of the current ABB could do as well on their own right now, in terms of ticket sales, as the Band does as a whole. So being a hired hand for the ABB is beneficial in terms of exposure for all of them. Even the ones we know are destined to become "Bigger" one day.
Your comments on the band surprise me. If DB were still in the Band and they sounded as bad as early 2000 there would be no ticket sales at all. Gregg Allman said it best and I did just what he told DB to do.... I listened to the tapes. They don't lie. DB was playing poorly to put it nicely. They did what they had to do and I still Beleive that if DB had "Gotten Better" and asked to come back instead hiring a lawyer that he would be in the band today. Getting better was not as important as his pride at the time and now I doubt he will ever ask to come back. There is really no reason for them to chase him down either.
The ABB did some incredible stuff from 1989 - 1996. I'm not knocking 97,98 or 99 But this current version rivals the 70 -71 era no doubt about it. The DB sound that everyone misses didn't really evolve until Brothers & Sisters. I call it a country Twang and I love it. But you don't hear near as much in the early stuff and you don't hear it now. You don't hear a lot of DBs songs and thats too bad it really is. I wish they would play them anyway, if they want too. DB does have a unique sound and when he is on, nobody is better. But where the ABB was headed in the Spring of 2000 was nowhere and fast.
Now let's say you are 100% right about needing DB for ticket sales. That means that Gregg Allman should be admired for putting the music before the ole mighty Dollar.
Just my 2 cents
Listen to the tapes!

Revonah, I have seen the DVD. I was not knocking it. You seem to know more than I do, so I will let it go at that. Thanks for the rap. Dino thank you and the same goes for you and all the people hear that post. .. SUPPORT THE TROOPS.
Hey RD .. whether I agree w/ you or not, it is great to read your take on things ... comes from a perspective not many of us have experienced ...
Keep woofin' !
O K, I see this is like whipping a dead horse. We are not going anywhere. Has anybody heard of papering gig's? The Allmans are a beer drinking crowd drawing band. When ticket sale are not doing good the promoter and Venue paper the gig. They wait till just before the show starts and let people in for free or something like five bucks a head. They know they can make enough profit and save the gig from going under with the beer sales alone. Then you have coke and eats. This is why you see a lot of people at places like, Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, and all the out door gigs. There is nothing wrong with being a die hard Allman person. The music is still great and we will all go down with the ship. Sorry to disagree with people, but I do believe you are not listening to the inter soul of the Allmans sound from days gone by. Explanation on this, and a lot of other things will be in the second book that I am working on. Its nice to speak with you people. I hope, just because we disagree, we can still talk about things like this without saying thing like, you are off your rocker. Hope you all are doing well. .. Looks like they got the man that took the girl in Sarasota. No word on her at this time. They still have not found her. Bummer. This does touch ones heart.... SUPPORT THE TROOPS.
After seeing the half time show for the super bowl, I've got a better understanding of why some folks call the television a "boob tube"
Beacon...... Jethro comes to the big city and Ellie Mae also..... we'll bar-b-q a hog on the Beacon sidewalk.... yeehaaa
'Can't wait for the BEACON!!!!!!!! 😎
This is the very best ABB since brothers Duane and Berry were with us! Watch the dvd RedDog, the band is HAPPY and creative! Dickey coming back would be a sell out by Gregg, Jaimoe and Butch and i would respect them far less for selling out to ticketbastard. Dickey is great but the Allman Bros Band is better without him for now. If selling tickets wins out over creativity and harmony and piece of mind then i'll guess i have the original surviving members pegged incorrectly. Tickets sales are off for all tours, and if the management of the ABB doesn't mind me saying so they do a terrible job at promoting the band durning the summer tour season. Case in Point: for the first time in 11 years, last year the Washington Post Weekend section ran a story on the band playing in the D.C. area. That is accurate, and that is terrible promotion! I have always thought the promotion of the band was weak?

Come watch Ralph Don't Run: http://www.ralphdontrun.net
last lick for me........
i think many of us who allegedly
"grew up" in the 1960's have grown into some unbelievably huge hypocrites.......
that's not a learning experience.....
it's a failure to learn......everybody seems obsessed with wanting to control somebody elses behavior.......
watching your own back yard might be a better idea......IMHO natch........

......and bring on The Brothers at The Beacon, I like the vibe!!!
Touring with some of the members of Widespread during their hiatus would bring 'em in. Look what it did for Mule to tour with Dave Schools.
Did I say that I'd like to see Chuck play with the ABB at the Beacon next month?? Bring on Chuck for NYC! We've got his airline covered, who's providing ground transportation? Someone's got have some room in their suite for Chuck to crash.....
If the brothers would ask William Hung to join the band, ticket sales would go through the roof.
Not only that, but if we had William Hung perform the halftime extravaganza, all of us would be saying "Janet who?"

Who's to say if ticket sales would still be what they were in the late 90s if Dickey were still in the band? Absolutely no guarantee there. Lots of bands are drawing fewer people than 5 years ago with or without lineup changes. The ABB definitely sold more tickets in last year compared to 2000. The Brothers put exactly the same amount of people in the seats in 03 in Atlanta as the did in 02 (anecdotal evidence I realize).
I'd be all for Dickey & Chuck back in the band, but the sounds they are putting out now please these ears plenty. HTN got overwhelmingly positive reviews.
I wasn't trying to start a Dickey debate again which there is nothing wrong with; I just want Chuck to sit in at the Beacon!!!!!!
Im an oldtime ABB fan and sorry the Vibe just isnt there. Go see Dickeys band Great Southern there continuing brother Duanes vision.
If the allmans sound is like the old, then why are ticket sales dropping off year after year? Put the four back together and I think the sales would go up. Big time again, instead of being like all the other bands from the past, trying to hang on. I just gave an opinion. Music is still great, but not like the sound that sucked me in and kept me happy for years. I was in the middle of that sound and think I know what I am talking about. Maybe not. ... SUPPORT THE TROOPS.
Hey RD...the sound is so subjective. I've played the new Beacon DVD for folks who are old time ABB fans and they tell me that is the first time in YEARs they have heard that early Allman sound. I do miss the "sunny-side" that Dickey brought, but other times, I'm not sure the band has sounded better or more like the Allmans. Listening to Don't Keep Me Wonderin from the Beacon DVD the other night I was cheering at the end. To me that sounds JUST like the Allman Brothers.
At those shows in 2001, Chuck seemed to have added some of that sunny-side to the sound. That 3/25/01 Mountain Jam is about the only version of that song I listen to anymore. His extended Jessica solo from 3/24/01 is stunning. When Butch, Oteil & Chuck break into a 90 second impromptu Little Martha, I was floored. He seems absolutely made for Desdemona. BRING ON CHUCK FOR NYC!!
I am not for censorship, that is for sure, but I do think something should have been said so people could make up their minds and go from there. This show is for adults is in order for that kind of stuff. Then, Like you said I can make up my own mind. I do have to be honest here and that is I am not up on what she dose. I thought that she was the one of the Jackson's that had a good thing going and did it right. I did not expect to see that. I did not. I turned the channel as soon as the crouch grabbing stated with the dancers. The media made sure that I got to see it. The little girl that was kidnapped is not setting well with me. I am in favor for the death penalty for that type of crime. The only crime that I am in favor for the death penalty. Cut it off and hang the guy up to bleed to death. No second chance on that one. This person will not be able to do it again, ever. ... SUPPORT THE TROOPS.
