Los Lonely Boys - I heard them for the first time when they opened for Willie Nelson in Macon last Sunday night. Three brothers - guitar, drums, bass - all 3 sing, and these guys can cook! You definitely need to check them out when you get a chance, I promise you will not be disappointed. Oh yeah, and Willie was not too shabby himself for a man of 3 score and 10 years. Lots of energy on that stage last weekend. See y'all at the Beacon! Stop by the Hittin' the Note table in the lobby and say hello - JNB and Rob and I will be there and we would love to meet all of you. Willie Howard (from Mayberryetta, a suburb of Hot'lanta)

Buppalo, I guess that tells us what kind of person Jayson Williams is, he shot his dog, that was before he shot his limo driver!! I think you're correlation between the way people treat animals and the way they will treat humans has some real weight...most serial killers kill animals before they move onto people.

Listening to Los Lonely Boys a fellow teacher dropped off in my room this morning. Nice groove by these young men. Heavily influenced by SRV, Santana, and Stevie Wonder. If your looking for something to check out, I like em.

Boy, my top 100 guitar solos sure don't look like that list. I can't name 100 but Duane's solos on Stormy Monday and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed off Fillmore East, Duanes solo on Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad off Duane and the Dominos, all of Duane's solos on Push Push w/ Herbie Mann, Dereks solo on So Close So Far Away, Gary Moore on Still Got the Blues, Paul Cotton (Poco) on Crazy Eyes, Dickey Betts on Kiss The Blues Goodbye (Grinderswitch), Dickey Betts' on Whipping Post and IMOER on Fillmore East, Eric Clapton on I Feel Free (Cream), Lamdog's solos on Not Fade Away with the Jessica and Mountain Jam tease, Barry Richman on West Texas Highway, the jam after the drum and bass solos Mt. Jam on EAP.... and on and on.... IM(totally biased)HO

From the local newspaper: CHICAGO HAS CURE FOR THE BLUES If you've got a case of the midwinter blues, a good way to get over them is to check out a show called "Sweet Home Chicago: Big City Blues 1946-1966" at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. It highlights the Windy City's role in the growth of blues music, which provided a foundation for today's rock, pop, R&B and hip-hop. It runs thru June 20, when - appropriately - the Chicago Blues Fest takes place. The primary focus is 1946-1966, but it also includes an introduction to the earlier history of the blues in the Mississippi Delta and the causes and effects of the Great Migration. A closing section examines the ongoing influence of Chicago Blues on popular music styles from the 1960s to the present. It will feature significant artifacts from the careers of such legendary performers as Willie Dean, Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, Magic Sam, Charlie Musslewhite and Hound Dog Taylor. Items include Eric Clapton's and Muddy Waters' guitars. For more information, call 773-684-1414 or visit www.msichicago.org. Of course, there's much more to visit at the world famous museum than the blues exhibit. You could spend a week there and never see it all. It's located at 57th Street and Lakeshore Drive. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Last month, I was fortunate enough to get to see the exhibit and I was extremely impressed. It is well worth the time to check this out. You could easily spend the better part of a day seeing this exhibit alone. The only downside was that they wouldn't allow pictures to be taken for some reason.

In two weeks we'll be shopping at the Fairway about this time.... then playing tourist around town by noon..... probably looking for a good Italian restaraunt for an early dinner, then I hear some friends are having a small pre show get togethor, then the sounds to my ears of the first live Allmans, in exactly two years, when I last did this. For this old hick, man NYC ahead sounds pretty good. OK, tickets, toothbrush, black socks, we're outta here.......

There were some great song lyrics posted yesterday. My students recited and wrote about Langston Hughes poems recently, so I have his writings on my brain. I think that's a good thing! Here's one for you: Fulfillment, by Langston Hughes The earth-meaning Like the sky-meaning Was fulfilled. We got up And went to the river, Touched silver water, Laughed and bathed In the sunshine. Day Became a bright ball of light For us to play with, Sunset A yellow curtain, Night A velvet screen. The moon, Like an old grandmother, Blessed us with a kiss And sleep Took us both in Laughing. Enjoy that bright ball of light today!
