I'm still trying to sort the weekend out in my head. Three shows in three nights, quality time with the best people anywhere, and trying to get over the fact that I was in Yogi's, is just a little too much for the brain to handle right now. A quick thanks to the Sweeties, my sweet sisters! Thank you will never be enough for all you did. I truly love you all. My roomies, Debbie, Janet, Nicole....what can I say? If we keep on laughing, we'll all get by. You gals are the best. We know who WE are, I just hope everyone else does! Karen and Lynn! You crazy Canucks! You guys are darn good at last minute throw downs! What a great time on Thursday. Thanks so much. Scotty, dude! The conference room was rockin', and the food was great! A fantastic warm-up to the show. Thanks! It was great seeing the guys jam together. We are so lucky to have such talent in our midst. Last night's show....there really aren't adequate words to describe it. Any attempt on my part would fall desperately short of doing it justice. I keep thinking about Derek's solos and no words come to mind. To say I am in awe of his playing is an understatement.

:birthday: to Wharfy and Mike! I am too tired to write about Beacon 2005 right now, but I'd just like to thank the best band in the land, Lana and Rowland (it was a pleasure to finally meet you!) for everything. I've said it before and I'll continue to say what a lucky, lucky girl I am. Much love to all of my sisters and brothers...and also sending healing vibes out to those hurting here tonight.

Yes, indeed, Chuck Leavell will be signing the DVDs, books, and CDs that are purchased at the Beacon on Monday and/or Tuesday night. Please remember, he will only have an hour or less to sign things before the shows start - so be kind and respectful of Chuck as well as your fellow concertgoers and don't linger around the table. This WILL be a wonderful time! Chuck will be at the table on Monday from 7:00 til 8:00 p.m., and on Tuesday from 6:00 til 7:00 p.m. Willie Howard (from Mayberryetta, a suburb of Hot'lanta)

hey hey the blues is all right!! Sweeties and Scotty great work = y'all are a great bunch. the many impassioned posts about the Sat night show are still not enough.......just go read the set list and try and be there. for me the real insanity hit when after this epic E-Reed and stellar Dreams........it was time to ride the Rockin Horse.......Laudy Laudy!! Warren knows how to put together set lists........go see what he did on Friday night too. but this Sat night deal was about as intense and strong as it could get. hey hey the blues is all right. hey hey the blues is all right. ...Just wanted to say quickly here. The crowd as a whole was awesome last night!...at least in the orchestra where I was anyway - and we were really rockin'. They were loud and enthusiastic yet really polite and into the show big time. I did not see a single incident of rudeness or any kind of negative behavior at all. This was a fired up Saturday night crowd but was clearly there for the music. Even during the quiet parts of the show most of crowd were standing and ((listening)) intently...They really added to the great vibes of the performance. I think the band felt it too...

Just to add a little to my earlier post a while back. Since I was 3 rows back CC L. center for Sat. nights show, you can really focus in on whats going on, w/ the head nods and expressions going on. All I have to say to anyone worried bout this band losing some of its members is to take a deep breath. Everyone was having an absolute blast onstage. Otiel was grinning ear to ear while Little Milton was playing, and I dont think I have ever seen Derek smile so much during a show. The whole band was having a blast. The crowd was eating it up (one of the loudest crowds I have heard at the Beacon). These guys know they have something real special here, and on nights like Sat, night, they cannot be touched.

Happy Birthday Wharfy!!! Enjoy Brudda! Great seeing you Saturday night... Well...First off a BIG thank you to everyone that was responsible for the Beacon Hotel party and jam session last night! It was really fun and the turnout was amazing! These parties get bigger and BIGGER every year. Everything was really well done...I saw many old friends and met quite a few new ones as well. I got a chance to jam with some of the boys - lots of fun - we played "Liz Reed" with 4 guitars LOL! Thanks to all - I am honored to call you guys my friends! A special thanks to Gary, aka Peachnutt for hooking me up with an orchestra ticket before showtime. We had a great time inside having some deep ABB discussions...Thank you Gary! Now on to THE show. In the 2nd set we got to see IMO one of the truly great performances in recent memory. The first set was very solid as well with some cool guests like Susan T and Little Milton. A first set hightlight for me was The best version of "Every Hungy Woman" I've heard - just killer! - Derek and Warren taking this one to new levels unheard of from that song before. End Of The Line" was really tight as well as the "Hot 'Lanta" opener and "Done Somebody Wrong"... ...Now the second set was where the REAL magic was - and I mean magic of Epic proportions! This was IMO a set for the ages where many musical ^summits^ were reached and conquered like only this band can. As was the norm for this run Gregg started it out solo on the baby grand piano - just chilling vocals. He sounded as pure and sincere singing that way as he possibly could - his vocals were clear as a bell and his playing was picure perfect. "Please Call Home" was a joy to hear that way as was "Oncoming Traffic". Right then I decided to run down closer from my seat in the back of the orchestra to get a better view. I then found a seat in the 9th row almost dead center. For some reason this seat remained open and I was more than happy to fill it up for as long as I could - the whole 2nd set as it turned out. I was about 10 feet away from BIG Bill Walton who looked like he was 8 feet tall! I stood next to him for a moment earlier and I looked like I was 5 years old standing next to him. He was really diggin' the show big time, high-fiving folks in the crowd. Anyway, seeing Gregg and Warren sing "These Days" acoustically from that close was something that can't be described - you just needed to be there to hear how amazing this moment was. I had a feeling the second set would be really good but nobody could of predicted what followed. The band sort of noodled for a minute or so but clearly we knew what was coming and then, they eased their way into "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed". I saw Ron Holloway w/ sax enter stage right just next to Oteil so then I got really pumped. Right from the start this song had a "pulse" that was somewhere "in between time and space" - it felt almost surreal to hear and feel how beautifully the band led into the theme. Ron Holloway played a nice jazzed-out solo that just really fit the mood. When it was Dereks turn I kind of felt we were gonna get something beyond good but I gotta say Derek absolutely, positively ripped this incendiary solo that was easily one of the best single solo's I've heard from Derek to date! I thought Derek might (((explode))) and then literally he DID...and so did the crowd. WE applauded long and loud because the kid played something that quite possibly no one ever had before. Derek has truly reached the "pinnacle" - at this young an age he already can be called a master of his instrument. The kid is a freakin' wizard! Next, Warren soloed and then went back and forth with Ron Holloway - playing off eachother like they have been doing it for years. This LIz Reed went on for 40+ minutes and all of it was the played like it was the last song of their lives. The Drum segment was more like a percussion symphony than a drum solo. No wonder Butch dislikes that word - this was much more that a drum solo - they were making music. After Drums we got Oteil of course and then if all this wasn't yet enough we also got Kofi on flute alongside his his Brother - Butch was still playing - and then Derek joined in yet again. Over 40 minutes after it began one of the greatest ever "Liz Reed's" came to a conclusion. We were already satisfied but there was MUCH more to go. We then got a mind blowing almost 15 minute "Dreams" again with Ron Holloway on sax - it was only fitting that we got a Derek "Dreams" tonight - and another song truly worthy of "best ever" consideration. Next was "Rockin Horse" with Yonrico instead of Jaimoe which made the drum section feel even more powerful than it already is. This is Warren's song and he really smoked this one! Another KILLER song stretched way out.. This was my kind of set list - lots of improv. Next was "One Way Out" quick and to the point and then a super-powerful "Whipping Post" encore and the show was done leaving us completely drained. The show ended promptly at 12:00 Midnight, 3.5 hours after it began - It was the witching hour which was really fitting for this particular night. As Jerry Garcia once sang: "Thank You...For a real good time!" Thanks ABB and friends for making it a special night... Peace

A very enjoyable weekend. I tend to differ about Sat show. Seeing the band Friday it was a treat to see Little Milton and S.T. Friday seemed to be one of those rare evenings. Sat was a little bit of a bummer only for the fact that I had to listen again to the two little milton songs. It would of been nice to hear Greg on Stormy Monday, S.T was fantastic and lit up the place. But W.P and Reed took care of any dissappointment. It was also special to have my son Zach with me. He turned 16 last year and the first ABB show he was 12, he got tired early and we had to leave. This time he appreciated the music and the evening. He loved the auction (my wallet showed he did) and the festivities. Simply priceless. Too all the new people I met it was a pleasure and yes thanks to the sweeties for the before party. Enjoy the Spring and I look forward to a few summer shows. Be safe.... Mr milas (scott) I have pics but need to figure out how to post.

What a night! What an amazing, inspiring performance! This band hit THE peak in a run that has been full of exhilarating, breathtaking peaks. What a statement to be making in your 36th year! Magic happened last night that impacted thousands of people and you could feel it vibrating out into the universe. With eight shows down and two to go, how does the best band in the land wrap it up? With none other than Rock’s greatest keyboardist, Chuck Leavell! Before the ABB show on Monday and the Big House Benefit on Tuesday, Chuck will be holding a DVD, Book and CD signing from 7:00-8:00PM in the back of the Beacon lobby, on the east side, past the bar. This event will kick off the release of his latest DVD, The Big House Foundation Presents Chuck Leavell at the Douglass Theatre. Chuck will also be autographing his new book, Between a Rock and a Home Place, and various CDs from a most distinguished career. If you’re in New York or the surrounding area at the beginning of next week – don’t miss the chance to meet a true keyboard legend and a damn fine tree farmer to boot! Big thanks going out to the “Hospitality Sweeties make everyone wild” girls to Scotty and the band at the West Coast Party along with the whole Guestbook Family, especially Lana and Rowland! Safe travels to everyone going back home, it sure was a fine weekend! JNB
