Randy, great review!! We're awfully lucky to have Warren, Derek & Jack. All three come from the spirit of Duane, yet each have their own distinctive styles. Derek seems to soak it all in, studying the music of the world, taking Duane's slide and moving it into a new direction. Jack has some of the best soulful funk and R&B chops I've ever heard and amazing mastery with the slide. Warren has the 70's rock influences, along with traditional blues. That is what's unique, they've taken what Duane brought us and intergrated it into their own influences and made it their own. I'm sure the same can be said for all the other guitar players that Duane & Dickey influenced. The road goes on forever...............

Thanks for the great review Randy. Sounds like everybody had a great time at those Alabama shows. Just wish I could have been there. Last night must have really been special to get a whole show with Jack playing. I am anxious to hear a copy of that show. I have always been partial to Jack. I have worn out my copy of 9-24-04 with Jack playing on Dreams at the FOX. He makes it look so easy as he plays effortlessly kicking that left leg up. There are many that feel he plays more in the true spirit of Duane that any other player that has ever come into the band. It's our turn next here in Florida. Come on down........

Its all opinion on how you like certain guitair players...I for one loved Jacks playing...Where as Derek for me was an aquired taste that has grown on me...I have buddies who feel the total opposite and don't care as much for Jack....But in the end its all good we are blessed that the ABB do get such great players and always want expand their music an not play the same show night after night like many bands do now... Has anyone heard the word on Gregg's problem at the beginning of Sailing the Devil's Sea? It looked like Jack either had to tell him what they were playing, or prompt the lyric line. Interestingly, I'm not sure I've ever heard Gregg so high in the mix, or play as well. Funny, I'm the opposite of Buppalo, I've always had a problem warming up to Jack playing with the ABB. While I still prefer Derek's style, Jack killled last night. Fun to see a few old friends last night and meet a bunch more members of the extended family. As Brother Gregg often says "Ya'll are a great bunch" More thoughts after church.

Sounds like they were Rockin in Huntsville last nite! I need a copy of this show, Warren and Jack, not a bad combo if Derek could not be there. Amazing who has played in the ABB. Name another band who has ever had as many great guitarists in its history. And while I am thinking of it think of the great Bassist's as well. Randy glad you finally warmed up to Warren, a true brother if there has ever been one.

Hey Hemlock, I'm still around, just went back to work about 3 weeks ago and busy getting back into the "swing of things" on that end. Anyway to JohnF and TanDan, hopefully both of y'all will come on back. PM each other and work out the differences if you have to, but remember both of you are thought of as friends by many around here and we like having our friends around.

"personal taper" ? That's great - I think I'm going to put that on my business cards! Can't add anything to this review - that pretty much about covers it actually. Big smiles all around, both in the audience and on stage. One word: DREAMS Big thanks to Bill Ector for helping to pave the way, and a big thank you to upton for keeping Johnny Law at bay. Hey, that rhymes! Not bad for 5am...

WELL!! Tonight we were stroked, poked, over, under, sideways, down, backward, forward, square and round! Oooweee! With the exception of 9/24/00 (Jimmy Herring), this was the best non-Beacon Brothers show I've ever seen. Period. It was almost silly giggles. I also sensed some "throwing down" going on tonight. The sound problems from B'ham were gone, the crowd was much more "into it," maybe because it was indoors. LS had a great response, Rossington had a much better night, they had the crowd roaring, I wonder if they were making a statement about opening every show. Not near as many left after the LS set as in B'ham....some didn't know what to make of Jackie, some roared when he came out! There was a bit of a "feeling out" period, then Bro. Jack "threw down," let everybody in the band and the crowd that he had come to kick all butt...and he did! As evidenced by the setlist, it was mostly older stuff, from Jack's era, which suited this old Peachhead just fine. After awhile, Warren and Gregg just about said, "Hey, wait a minute--you're not the only gunslinger on this stage tonight, Mister." And Gregory Lenoir Allman!! On my trip to H'ville, I listened to 9/24/00. This was the final show of the run, and at the time, it was unknown if there would even be another show. I listened a lot to Gregg's key work, which was totally outstanding. I believe the whole band was pretty much "throwing down" 9/22-23-24/00, maybe deciding that if it was over, they were going out blazing. Well, let me tell you, reports of Mr. Allman's demise have been greatly exaggerated. When you get the tape, listen to the key work he was doing behind the others. All business. he did blow the Southbound lyrics a bit, but he was dead on on all his cues. We sat with Jack's road manager, upto_nogood, and his personal taper, Dirk. Get ready SlideJules, you got a keeper coming, Bro.! And let me state, that after all these years, after the last 2 shows, I have finally come to like Warren Haynes. I have always preferred those who played like Duane--Jack and Derek--and Warren is Warren. To me, more like a heavy metal player. But these last 2 shows, he was a true member of the Allman Brothers Band, at least to my ears. His approach to a song seems different--closer to the original design of the band, at least to me. We were treated to a great dinner tonight at Casa de Seeks, steak, salad, potatoes, courtesy of Tom's Great Wife Dianne, and joined by SPDB, Music City Blues from Nashville, the Outlaw Jimmy Welles and friend J.D. from Cullman. Got to the HTN table to find Bill and Greg again, Linus, Rusty and Donna, joined by upto_nogood, Barb P. Like Tom said, we were on the back row of the front middle section with the aisle behind us, and it ended up being the gathering place for quite a few. Met Surelle for the first time. We were joined by one of the first hardcore Peachheads I ever met, transplanted from Gadsden. Big down of the evening, Pam wasn't there, and I didn't get to meet KC Jimmy and Corrine. This was one of those shows, like 3/21/03 (hi Sari) or 9/5/98 Fox when everybody left feeling totally euphoric. I won't be back down for days, it's time to quit typing. EAPFP

Good to see you posting here Tom S. Thanks for the review. Would that Nashville cat be Nick Graham, taper and big DTB guy? Glad you had a good time and were able to gather your friends together when it thinned out. Ron Bruder

The setlist in Huntsville tonight was..... Statesboro Blues Midnight Rider Trouble No More Same Thing Done Somebody Wrong Sailin' Across the Devils Sea Soulshine Good Morning Little School Girl Dreams Melissa IMOER Southbound Encore: One Way Out. Pretty good show. Glad we got to see Jackie. He played his butt off as usual. First time seeing Skynyrd. Real high energy with a fan base that's there for that exact reason. The crowd was a lot mellower for the Bros, and it thinned out in a hurry. We got everyone in our group who had seats away from ours to come down to the floor and spend the Bros show with us. Had a small gathering before the show. Supper for Randy (Buppalo), Brent (skydogponyboy, who was the best guitarist in the house no actually playing :)~ ), The Outlaw Jimmy Wells and his Cullmanian partner, JD Strictland, and it's late so I don't remember the first name of the guy who came from Nashville (Sorry man, been a long hard road to hoe here lately) but I think his nick on here is MusicCityBlues. Anyhow, steak and baked all around, and then rock 'n roll for desert. We had a blast. Thanks to ABB for puttin' on a good show. Tom S.

Hey now Carol - PM your addy and some Donna Hopkins shows will be headed your way! Plus her brand new live album (recorded the weekend in March that I was at the Beacon) will be available within days -- and it ROCKS! Phillybob, Kevin Thomas -- Donna's B-3 player -- got married. His wife's dad is an executive with Ritz Carlton, so Kevin has joined the corporate world. He currently works at the Ritz resort on Grand Caiman. Tough work, but somebody's got to do it ... I've really grown to enjoy Donna's sound as a 3-piece, sort of like Gov't Hopkins ...
