And say what you want, but EVH should always be in the top 10 or 15 by any of the standards used to make up those arbitrary lists like that (influence, inspiring people to pick up the guit-fiddle, new/original style, etc.). Might not be a "feel" guitarist in the sense of the blues guys, but much more so than any of the other rock-pop shredder guys from the Spandex era. He influenced both players and bands for a good 15 or so years. Flame away for that comment on this board....

For top live albums, I think I'd have AFE, Band of Gypsys and ARU's debut album in the top 3. ARU may've never attained widespread appeal, but that's one crazy-sick album, especially for a debut. And by all accounts it was an off-night for the band. I'd also have to add "A Friday Night in San Francisco" by the guitar trio (McLaughlin, DeLucia, DiMeola) and Lou Reed's "Rock 'n' Roll Animal" to the mix. The intro to 'Sweet Jane' is quite incredible. And the live album by Johnny Winter And. Another great live one (Rock 'n Rollllllll...... )

1 Jimi Hendrix 2 Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band 3 B.B. King 4 Eric Clapton 5 Robert Johnson 6 Chuck Berry 7 Stevie Ray Vaughan 8 Ry Cooder 9 Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin other than some shuffles, and dropping Chuck Berry and Ry Cooder from that top 9, I have zero problem with that . Throw in Derek Trucks and Mike Bloomfield in their places and those are the 9 guitarist that influenced me the most to 1) Start Playing/Wanting to play 2) discover every other guitar/musician on the planet that has made an impact on you or anyone else. and that doesn't even count Muddy Waters into that group...who other than Duane, is the one Musician that I count as my most influential on my style of play. His Barbed Wire tone on slide and his originality of starting modern electric blues(not to mention his classic early recordings dating back to 41) puts the man in a class by himself. A class that those guitarist listed will hold him higher than they do themselves or others. I have spent countless hours disecting each of their music styles and tones and patterns before I ever learn to play a note (other than Derek) I can't think of any other of the "guitarists" that have meant more to me than those listed....and I am not a big SRV fan at all...but he stays cause I remember exactly where I was the first time I saw him play...and picking my jaw up off the floor at his ability on the instrument.

If Duane Allman is "Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers", why isn't #53 Mickey Baker "Mickey Baker of whoever the hell Mickey Baker played with". Exscuse my ignorance, but who in the hell IS Mickey Baker? Please--someone, anyone--enlighten this old rogue. Thank you. Horace EAPFP
