I think this guys liked the show... HEADLINE: Tedeschi Trucks impressive By Jeff Miers Buffalo News pop music critic For a decade now, Derek Trucks has been the most innovative and soulful electric guitarist in his age group. As a member of the Allman Brothers Band, and out front with his own Derek Trucks Band, the guitarist has created a niche of his own, one where blues, jazz, Indian classical music, rock and funk intermingle beneath the jam-band umbrella. Trucks could have ridden those two gigs into the sunset without a problem, but his marriage to soul-blues singer and guitarist Susan Tedeschi a few years back has yielded more than children. That bond became the impetus for what is perhaps the most exciting blues-based band extant, the Tedeschi Trucks Band. When the 11-piece ensemble showed up for a sold-out show in UB's Center for the Arts on Sunday, it did so with a fine album, "Revelator," under its belt and a burgeoning reputation in both blues and jam-band communities. That reputation could only have been bolstered by Sunday's show. It was a simply brilliant, consistently high-level display of musicianship, musicality and soulfulness. Even if Trucks is a jaw-droppingly brilliant soloist, he was far from the only virtuoso on the stage during the band's two-hour set. All members of the group proved themselves to be seriously gifted players. Tedeschi fronted the group with her full-throated, Bonnie Raitt-esque, soul-drenched singing, and she kicked out some seriously swanky guitar solos to boot. Bassist Oteil Burbridge and his keyboardist brother, Kofi, seemed to be locked into a wholly simpatico musical exchange throughout the gig. Twin drummers J.J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell performed in a lockstep that never failed to burn when the burning needed to be done. The lengthy, intermission-free set blended tunes from "Revelator" with well-chosen and boldly rearranged covers, among them an absolutely torrid funk-fest in the form of Stevie Wonder's "Uptight (Everything's Alright)." When Tedeschi tore into a take on Bobby Blue Bland's "That Did It," punctuating the rendition with a gorgeously understated guitar solo, she brought down the house. Trucks was his usual flawless self, blending sublime slide playing -- particularly during an interlude that found him teasing out Miles Davis' "In a Silent Way," leading into the Zeppelin-esque stomp of "Nobody's Free" -- with blues, funk and jazz lines that by night's end had coalesced into something unique and deeply affecting. What a wonderful occurrence, the formation of this band, and the manner in which it has elevated classic R&B into a thoroughly modern and relevant art form. Yes, the Tedeschi Trucks Band comprises serious virtuosos, but what will continue to resonate is the soulfulness, the emotional commitment to the moment and the manner in which these musicians spoke so directly to and from the heart. email: jmiers@buffnews.com

I totally agree, Marci. Always loved Dickey. Hell we all have deamons........it is how WE choose to deal with them is what really matters. In my opinion, Dickey has trusted all the WRONG people. Hurts me to think that so many people are taking advantage of him. Shame on all of YOU !!!! FOREVER an Allman Brother in my book. Hope things get back on track for Dickey very soon. Miss seeing the man with the cowboy hat and the big RED guitar !!!!!! Peace

No reason given yet for cancellation.....I wish they would just issue some kind of statement....even if its a fake one 🙁 to make me feel better. I love Dickey Betts and I really hate all the bashing Ive been seeing about him (not on here) Whoever is handling the Flysouth fest page is obviously upset...they have put a muddy bootprint over Dickey's face, which I think is a little over the top. He contributed so much to the success of this band and its just sad to see him disrespected. Im just a lowly Fan but I think he deserves a littel more respect than that......... ANd I think a lot of it has to do with the people he surrounds himself with and takes care of his "business".....any decent PR person or manager wouldve handled this already. Just my humble opinion of course..........What do I know other than this was handled poorly and there are A LOT OF VERY DISAPPOINTED PEOPLE. Love ALL the ABB including DICKEY.....you're still part of my Bluesky Mr. Betts, but I would like to know why you cancelled your shows.....PLEASE. Have a great Wednesday Peaches

Any reason given for Dickey cancelling the gig? Seems like he would have been the headliner. Can't believe it would be ticket sales. Too bad, seeing Dickey again in Macon would have been sweet.

Got a reply back from an email inquiry I sent to Flysouth: Unfortunately this is true. Dickey cancelled all of his shows in November, which included Fly South. We are currently working on filling his spot with another band and should be able to make a formal announcement in the next 36 hours. You can check for updates at flysouthmacon.com or macon.com.

In the FWIW dept, the Macon Flysouth site is working again: http://flysouthmacon.com/ Though it says Mr Betts will appear, since he has removed the show from his website, buy tix at your own peril. Same goes for the Wild Bill's show in Duluth-still for sale on TM but removed from Dickey's site. Do not buy.

thanks for schedule Nic, Im glad DB is marked for Saturday, as we r hoping to make it up after work , can sleep in Sunday , we open after church on Sundays:) Deb, sorry to dissapoint u, as much as Ashley loves Dickey, she really does , the Benefit will be too late-nite for our darlin 🙁 She'll be sad to miss Ashley Wester too, AW & Taylor Swift r her favorite singers 🙂 Fine role models too. Nic, wait till u see AW singing back up for Danny's guitar , make u weep tears of joy! easy to see why Aunt Heddy and now Ashley loves her namesake so . Sorry about the DB/Jawja dates 🙁 that being said, :flower2: FLA :flower2: is gorgeous in November . Sweet Marci & Sons, my offer is still open :thewave: one minor problem, our 30 something pipes (copper under the foundation , cant handle the alkaline soil/water:( have leaked for the third and hopefully last time. we r having house re-plumbed, 2 baths and kitchen ruined, thankfully spared a half-bath that we recently updated. JR has the baths back up and running, "rustic" till he can gut and re-tile, thankfully business is slow, we have too much time on our hands anyway. with the luck o the Irish, we will have the children's bath brand new by November :tearhair: Ash picked out a gorgeous mermaid tile mural, it's arrived and really special , counting our blessings

I know all you players know this stuff, but I have been a polite student for too long. I just want to report that a P90 Les Paul at 60 watts in my living room is effin' loud. Note to self: start hanging matresses on living room walls to sound proof / avoid arrest. Ear plugs maybe. Damn you can get some great effect loud. Huh?

Thanks John. Someone on Dickey's GB reports having talked to DB's mgt today who told him both GA shows are "rescheduled." I'd be disappointed if this was not so predictable. Yes, I've been using that addy for Flysouth and it has not worked for about the last two days. I guess it doesn't matter anymore....
