p.s. and you are all so right in your words about Mr. Walden and what he helped make possible. RIP and THANK YOU!
Leslie West and some ABB tunes coming up soon.
If you're in the NYC/LI area, catch some classic ABB tunes Thursday, April 27th, at Mulcahy's in Wantagh, LI, NY.
http://www.mulcahys.com/concert_promo16.htm for info and address etc.
The Bourbon Stills Band, doing ABB for over 20 years, will definitely entertain you with the classics as the opener for Leslie West and Mountain. They go on around 8:30 or 9 pm.
wonder what we'd be listenin to if Mr. Walden hadn't come along. probably wouldn't've been no otis, abb nor any of the rest of em. i, for one, am very glad he was on this earth and had the vision that he had. his kind of eyes and ears don't come along very often. may he rest in peace, heaven is surely jammin now. thank you Mr. Phil Walden.
Extra special circumstances often call for extra special arrangements. Please know that I was not suggesting that Lana and Rowland be disturbed on their honeymoon.
I don't know how many have noticed that any mention of Phil Walden's role in ABB history is absent on this site except for private posts. I am aware that there are grudges held against this man that are 30+ years old.
Isn't it time to forgive and forget and give this man some credit for how and where it all began; for his vision?
No one in the band is living in a shack and eating gritz 3X a day because of Phil. And, during those years when money was more than tight, maybe those who had such a tough time after being on top of the world for several years look at their own spending habits, personal lives and tough financial commitments, as well as the plans they had been encouraged to make to ensure that hard times never came their way that they never pursued.
Love WAS everywhere once. It can be again.
Just a quick post to let all those concerned that Blue & I made it home safely and in record time. Needless to say, I'm BEAT. Having to leave my boyzz just about broke my heart.
I can't add anything to enhance the beautiful words already posted by so many. Lana & Rowland, may God bless your union & thank you for sharing the magic with us. Truly a magical event.
To all my loving family, thank you SO much from the bottom of my heart, Dylan could not stop talking about all of you and how special you were and how you made him feel special too.
Birthday wishes to ALL and especially Tyler's Dad! May your year be blessed.
RIP Phil Walden, deepest condolences to his family & friends. No I didn't know him, never met him but even a clueless wonder like me knew his role in the making of ABB history.
I've GOT to go to bed.
MuchLoveNPeace,
Carole
:birthday: Tyler's dad! I hope you had a wonderful day.
EddieP, my brother! I hope you enjoyed your birthday. Listening to some Mr. Zimmerman, perhaps? 🙂
Barb! So great to see you at Wanee and sit with you and Greg at Wedstock. I hope your birthday was as special as you are!
Bob, Eddie and I just got back from a very long, but WONDERFUL road trip 10 PM Sunday and I had to head directly to work. Man, was I tired, but happy thoughts of the previous days kept me smiling! Will write more about Wanee and Wedstock when I am off tomorrow.
So sorry to hear of Phil Walden's passing. May he rest in peace. Where would we all be if not for him?
I trust our dear Lana and Rowland are having a great time in Jamaica, truly a paradise, and the scene of my honeymoon over 26 years ago. :yep:
Hey ron, I hear that same train, only at times like this I hear it a little louder than I usually do. It's that same train Johnny Cash heard a-comin', the one Duane liked to hear behind him when he was playing, the one Tandan talks about...I was lucky enough to take the Southern Crescent all the way to Georgia one time and I spent most of the night looking out the window until I could see kudzu under the full moon and I knew I was back in the South. well, someone new is on the train tonight punchin' tickets and shovelin' coal as the train rolls on....
Happy Birthday to EddieP! Also to Barb Potter (whom I had the pleasure of meeting briefly outside the Beacon a couple of years ago) and Tyler's dad.
RIP to Phil Walden. He was the one who "heard it" when the embryonic ABB played, and others didn't. I will always be grateful for that.
Just got in a short while ago from N.C. Spent an extra day down there to visit some friends and extend the wonderful weekend, and what a weekend it was!
Lana and Rowland, I can't say enough about the two of you and your special day. I am so thrilled to have been a part of it and love you both very much. The ceremony, as unique and beautiful as it was, didn't compare to the love I saw in your eyes for each other and that is what truly matters. May that light from your eyes always glow for each other.
Matt, thank you and your band for a day of great music dancing. The rain made no difference what so ever. Like my girl Karen said "dancing to Revival...in the rain...at Lana's wedding.....it doesn't get any better than this!" You got that right Karen. And thanks Lefty and Michael for sitting in and sharing your talents with us. You guys rock!
I just loved being reunited with my dear friends and also meeting some new ones for the first time. Moonlight, Frank, Skybyrd, simply a pleasure!
My smile still hasn't gone away and I'm still reliving Saturday afternoon and night with my sisters and brothers. Thank you all for your love and friendship, it means more to me than I can ever say, but most importantly, the biggest thanks goes to Mr. & Mrs. Archer, without whom I would never have had the joy of knowing all of you and having you be a part of my life.
Lana and Rowland....your vision from years ago has become a reality. You have done great things for many people, and we are all fortunate to have benefited from the family you created. Know that the love and friendship you inspired comes back to you many times over.
Wishing you peace, patience, love and laughter in your new life together. :inlove: :love2:
P.S. Shey, you have some terrific friends, I had a great time talking and laughing with them. By the end of the night, they made me feel like I was their friend too!
OK, here's how this works. this is, in truth, a fan site, watched over by 2 people, and us. those 2 are on their honeymoon. no one watches over this store but us. no paid help, no hired hands, nothing. sometimes, we have to step up and remind people of that, so here i am. if you want to discuss it, send me a PM and i'll send you my home phone number, and we can talk tomorrow.
i'd suggest that people do whatever they see fit to do, but otherwise, you know, if you think YOUR needs aren't being serviced, take a deep breath, a step outside, and a look into your own head and heart, and ask yourself why, at this rare and unexpected confluence of the river of life, at the bend of joy and sorrow, hope and remembrance, you're angry at customer service.
me, i'm sitting in the music room -- some of y'all have passed through here and blessed it with your talent and your soul, and -- a long chain of unlikely coincidence, somehow directly in a sequence leading back to be Phil Walden -- i'm listening to the train pass through the mid-south. what was an urgent whistle blasting when i began typing this is now a faint echo on the wind, moved on down the line, to places and darknesses different and unimagined. how sad & romantic & apropos.
goodnight, phil, and god rest his soul.
PS: ann, you know i'm not directing this at you. my admiration and respect for you is boundless.
PPS: lefty, some of the women say they feel free to travel because there's a rare quality of respectful, sensitive, masculine, protective, free-thinkin' man that comes to the Brothers' shows again and again, and makes certain the women know their pleasure in the music and the moment is more important than anything else in this mean old world. (how i infiltrated that bunch of A number 1 guys, i'll never know)
Let em' have a honeymoon and not be worried about this site.
After all, they will be back...
well, i don't think anyone is watching the store to post updates...maybe to help if a server went down but that's about it..i may be wrong..but i think that's the case
"HOWEVER, while I know the webmasters are on their honeymoon, someone must be watching the store."
I think she was talking about whoever was left in charge of the site while they are gone.
I doubt if Rowland and Lana even know the news about Phil's passing.
i must say a big AMEN about the lovely women at the wedding...finally got back to a normal heartbeat an hour ago..it was racing all weekend..
ummm...wow..
In Jamaica enjoying there honey moon and promising everyone NO POSTS while they were gone.....
Shame on me.....Happy Birthday Tylers Dad......God Bless You
Elizabeth, they're in Jamaica! Man...
So many of you have posted very loving thoughts on the death of Phil Walden - without whom none of us would be here, together.
HOWEVER, while I know the webmasters are on their honeymoon, someone must be watching the store. Not only has the website totally ignored the very existance of Phil and his contribution to our lives, it has sadly and blatantly ignored his passing. SHAME ON YOU.
What beautiful posts about Lana and Rowland's wedding! Some of you have captured the feelings and emotions of the occasion so much better than I could. It was one of the greatest weekends of my life, and I am so happy for them. I was so fortunate to be there with them and with so many of you wonderful friends! Man, what a time! 😀 😀 😀
Thanks to Matt and the guys and Lefty for some simply incredible music! Thanks for the kind words about my playing. I was thrilled to be asked to play, and I thank Matt, Ed, and the guys for the opportunity--I had a ball.
Ron, excellent observation about our HTW women! They sure looked even prettier dancing in the rain!
R. I. P., Phil Walden.
Happiest of birthdays to Eddie P, Barb Potter (whom I finally got to meet on Saturday), Mark G, and Tyler's dad! :fanfare:
Got back here at 1:30 a.m. and was up at 5 a.m. for work. Need to try and get some
Good night, friends! I love you and miss you already! Congratulations to two of my favorite people on this earth: Lana and Rowland! :inlove2:
