Although I freely admit to watching the show (AI), I wouldn't pay a plug nickle to see any one of them. I'm not into pop. I personally think this years batch were weak. I thought the young black woman and the big black woman had better voices than any of the final few contestants, not even close. McPhee got there on the clevage vote and Hicks was there cause all the boomers wanted a white guy with gray hair that could dance a lick, just like most of them. On a serious note - God Bless the vets. Without those brave souls we couldn't have the fun we have. Fly the flag proudly and high this weekend. Regardless of your political leanings those on the ground deserve our love, our support and most of all our help and understanding when they come back injured.

I watch AI esp the early shows where all the clowns are. Bo Bice and Taylor Hicks are the only two performers I might pay to see.

Has anyone ever transported a motorcycle from NY to FL? Nephew is insisting on having his toy with him - lol. I know the Auto train in VA is doable with using Budget to transport from NY to VA. I've been getting quotes from professional transport companies but they are very expensive.

Actually, AI is a live competition show and they've been on TV really since the beginning. I too thought Taylor was good, but doesn't hold a candle to the kind of soul that Mike Mattison puts out. Still, AI is a great family show period. TL

I should point out that I do not watch the show, either. Not on purpose, anyway. 😉 I was in a restaurant the other night and the show was on. Mr. Hicks was singing, so I stopped to listen. I had to know what the hoopla was all about. Certainly there are worse singers, Taylor just didn't strike any chords with me. My beef has more to do with the concept of "instant star" and with fans stuffing the ballot box being the determining factor. Millions of votes RickT, or the same thousands voting hundreds (if not thousands) of times? The whole concept of "reality television" (which often turns out to not be very real at all) bothers me. In an age where we have HDTV, TIVO, and hundreds of chanels available via cable and dish - it's become painfully obvious that no matter what advancements we make with the signal - the quality of the programming will never catch up to what it was in the golden years of the medium. Why pay scriptwriters, actors, set designers and other professionals when all you have to do is turn the microphones and cameras over to a bunch of ameteurs. Sadly, the old addage is true. If you build it, they will indeed come.

Booyah! gpm....Man, where can I get one of those LP's? and don't bend notes...hahahahah...that's rich. No bitterness. I'm just not into commercialized pop music ie; A.I. Taylor needs to stop dancing, if you call it that. Jon W. is a great singer. No one on this years AI could touch him. spdb spdb

I find AI real interesting. Not that I'm going to run out and buy their cd's or go see them perform live, but when they get down to the final 10 or so, it's real interesting to see how they respond to the pressure. I also like the fact that they are required to sing several different styles of music during the competition. As for Taylor I guess he sings ok but he sure has no business dancing at all.

Oh, yes...Jonathan Wimpee...a very talented musician who I've seen several times. With Tim Brooks and The Alien Sharecroppers at GABBA. And twice in wonderful Gadsden AL for the Jam for Duane. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=14015204

So what if it's a popularity contest. Obviously the guy's got talent. People voted and that's the whole idea of the show. No need to be bitter.

I referred to this year..there have been a few, very few, that actually have talent. But, like the post Rusty? put up, I can take you around Birmingham and show you 4-5 singers that can out sing anyone on Idol. It is exactly as Lefty said, a popularity contest. 40 million? Yeah, and how many got 4, 5, 6, votes? What a bunch of garbage. I guess that's why I never was into "pop". ZZ Hill said it best, " I'm a blues man" so says the song. spdb

Well I don't think Taylor winning AI makes him the bar for judging great vocalist, but it sure is nice to see a guy like himself win in this day and time. Ryan
