Well, Linnie, as I said in my PM response to you, I had no idea you are/were/whatever a sweetie. I just assumed you were up to date on dues and jello, but I was wrong apparently. As I said I would do, I said my prayer for you and your job situation. Best of luck.

Well Rick I will put it out here since I thought LSU would win that game I'll send my congrats on your team winning. Did not see the game but 7-3, lowest scoring game between the two for some time, Defensive struggle, congrats on the Auburn win. I went out to do some yard work during the Giants/ Eagles game at the end o fthe third qrter.Came in and saw the game get tied up and the Giants win it in over time.Eagles dominated that game on both lines but the bottom line is the Giants came out of Philli with the win, I'll take it. They have much work to do if they are going to do anything this year but for now its good to be LUCKY!

would everyone PLEASE, PLEASE stop grouping me in with the sweeties? the past two times i've written of my misfortunes someone has taken a crack at the Hospitality Sweeties, and it is no secret that i am no longer affiliated with that group. So, if you dont like me, I don't give a rats ass.........just dont confuse everyone by grouping the girls into this too!!! It makes no sense to me that someone could 'not like the sweeties' when all they have ever done is GIVE to this community anyway. i'm also real sorry that i have continually updated everyone on my sorrows lately, but the fact is that YES, i do need help, YES, i do need attention, YES, i do need love. damn people.......give a girl a break. Not all of us are fortuante enough to have blood family that gives a *****, or even real friends to help either (i seemed to have lost most of what i was calling friends in the divorce). I come here for that. Sure, its sad, but true - and brothers and sisters, i like to think that i give just as much as a i take. Beats the hell out of me, all i know is that this place has, was, is SAVING MY ASS today. I WILL BE FINE, i'm just punch drunk. end transmission.

Finally got a chance to sit down and collect my thoughts about last night--wow, what a night of music! The GA Music Hall of Fame awards were held in a ballroom at the Georgia World Congress Center, right across the road from Philips Arena in downtown Atlanta. My seat was at a table one row from the back (G-11) and there was a good selection of fans back there from Athens and Macon, the two small-town capitals of Georgia music, drawn together because rem (Athens) and Gregg Allman (Macon, duh) were being inducted into the GA Music HOF, in addition to Jermaine Dupri (who was inducted by Quincy Jones of all people and thanked “my parents for having me”), Dallas Austin, Kristen Hall (formerly of Sugarland, it was just a year ago I was chatting with her in piedmont park) and posthumously Felice (“Rocky Top” and lots of other tunes you know) Bryant. I sat next to a guy from the Golf channel who covered a college golf tournament in Dalton, GA today and he was just happy to be there. We were sitting right beside the soundboard, the cameras and the huge teleprompter screen that the presenters at the front of the room read from, if they could see that far back. There were four big screens stationed around the room, so it was real easy to see what was going on up front. We were served a terrific meal, probably the best one I have had in a month, and right here I would like to thank everybody at my table for not drinking much of the wine, so I had to drink it ALL UP MYSELF! This improved my enjoyment of the show immensely, I can tell you that. I was also fortunate to meet Mike Mills’ brother whose band Blind Squirrel (“even a blind squirrel can find his nut”) plays a gig at the Five Spot in L5P on 10/13, check it out, it’s a Friday. And further fortunate to realize that table C-1, remarkably close to the front, was vacant. From this vantage point my buddy Chuck and I watched the rest of the performances, including two very talented young performers and The Dream Engine featuring Rob Evan, then things got great—rem came on and performed “begin the beguine” (I think), “Losing my religion” and “Man on the moon” and Michael Stipe, speaking for the band, thanked everybody in Georgia who was not currently on the stage with him. Then local TV personality Monica Kaufman introduced Gregg as the “crème de la crème” of the evening and he did Melissa on guitar and Oncoming Traffic on piano…I was hoping he would have some accompaniment, but as he was being inducted as a solo artist, it was very fitting that he was onstage alone. He gave a humble acceptance speech, remembering when Duane was inducted and mentioning everybody at his table, including his mother and wife and Floyd Miles and Chank, then he thanked the fans again--“it’s y’all, it’s y’all”--and proceeded to perform “Georgia on my mind,” a tradition at these award ceremonies. Somewhere along the line he mentioned that he didn’t perform often without a band, and sure enough, rem filled that void, backing Gregg on “midnight rider” and that concluded the evening’s entertainment. The members of rem ducked out through the kitchen, but Gregg signed some autographs after the show on his way out and Quincy Jones hung out in the lobby and signed anything anybody put in front of him. What a great evening in Georgia!

...and Zambi, I aint no expert either. Personally, I think the call was right because the ball was taken out of play, but, I hope the SEC reviews the play and issues an opinion. I guess that will not help matters, but then again, as long as the human element in football remains (referees) , there will be bad calls one way or the other. Auburn is no different; we have been on both sides of bad play calling. Linnie: I dont care too much for the sweeties as you well know. But I will say a prayer for you tonite because anyone who has to face not having a job is no fun and is scary. We are family here and I wish you the best in a replacement job search. But once you get the job of your dreams, watch out :). Rick

For those asking how the Auburn Tigers got the "War Eagle" battle cry, this is offered from the AU Student Handbook... Waaaaar Eagle! Is the cry that is heard from the fans in Jordan-Hare Stadium, alumni gatherings or as Auburn students greet each other. It is a symbol of the Auburn spirit and continues to bind Auburn men and women of all ages. Although several stories of Auburn 's battle cry have been passed down through the years, the true origin is anyone's guess. The most popular story dates back to the first time Auburn met Georgia on the football field in 1892 and centers around a spectator who was a veteran of the Civil War. In the stands with him that day was an eagle the old soldier had found on a battlefield during the war. He had kept it as a pet for almost 30 years. According to witnesses, the eagle suddenly broke free and began majestically circling the playing field. As the eagle soared, Auburn began a steady march toward the Georgia end zone for a thrilling victory. Elated at their team's play and taking the bird's presence as an omen of success, Auburn students and fans began to yell "War Eagle" to spur on their team. At the game's end, the eagle took a sudden dive, crashed into the ground, and died. But the battle cry "War Eagle" lived on to become a symbol of the proud Auburn spirit. The 1914 contest with the Carlisle Indians provides another story. The toughest player on the Indians' team was a tackle named Bald Eagle. Trying to tire the big man, Auburn began to run play after play at his position. Without even huddling, the Auburn quarterback would yell "Bald Eagle," letting the rest of the team know that the play would be run at the imposing defensive man. Spectators, however, thought the quarterback was saying "War Eagle," and in unison, they began to chant the resounding cry. There is another story surrounding the 1914 Carlisle game. Each time the Indians had scored during the season, fans and the Carlisle players yelled, "War Eagle." But on this particular afternoon, it was Auburn's own Lucy Hairston who adopted the battle cry as he danced across the goal line for the only touchdown of the game. Another version of the War Eagle story comes from Indian lore. Legend says "War Eagle" was the name given to the large golden eagle by the Plains Indians because the eagle furnished feathers for use in their war bonnets. The rarest version of the origin of the "War Eagle" cry grew from a 1913 pep rally at Langdon Hall where students had gathered the day before the Georgia football game. Cheerleader Gus Graydon told the crowd, "If we are going to win this game, we'll have to get out there and fight, because this means war." During the frenzy, another student, E. T. Enslen, dressed in his military uniform, noticed something had dropped from his hat. Bending down, he saw it was the metal emblem of an eagle that had been loosened while he cheered. Someone asked him what he had found, and Enslen loudly replied, "It's a War Eagle!" History was made as the new cry echoed throughout the stadium the next day as Auburn battled Georgia. No one knows which of these stories is the most credible. While the origin of the "War Eagle" cry is subject to some question, the actual presence of Auburn's eagle has been a steady presence through the succession of six Golden Eagles and will continue with the most recent, "Tiger" or "War Eagle VI" ad as always, the soaring spirit of Auburn will be embodied in the voices of its students as they echo that unique cry of victory... © 2005Auburn University

Horace Gammet (from outrspace) asked me for a trade recently for a "classic" DBGS show from the Freebird Cafe 5/18/02. Kick ass show. This was the line up from The Collectors Cd, fresh out of the studio and playing their asses off. TC Carr sits in along with Jamie McCormick on drums and the legendary Dru Lombard. This show features several acoustic tunes from The Collectors and was just an all out killer performance. Did I mention Kris Jensen..... So many memories......If anyone would like a B&P copy of this show send me a PM and I'll get back to you.
