round and round, and round we go.........
don't ask why we stay here I don't know.
Hey now, that there's some happy news!!
:birthday: to the one and only, GPM!! One cool cat and kind brother. Can't wait to see you in a couple of weeks. Wear those shroomy beads, brother!!
Just spoke to JFC :fish: who is currently driving somewhere in Dela-where? but he wanted me to convey his :birthday: wishes to one of his favorite brothers. He still cherishes that first meeting at Rose Hill and what was the first connection of faces with names from the GB.
Bird was a great player - Possible No. 2 al time - but jordans date with the puke bag in the playoffs cemented him at no. 1.
Bird was (is) the best "all around" player ever. He could do one thing the others did not do. He could control the game without scoring a point!
well josh - you are obviously wrong! Jordan is #1.
The other day I was chatting with my wife, who've I've turned into a raging Derek Trucks fan, and I asked her 'is a guitarist better if he can sound like anyone else who plays or if NOONE on earth can sound like him?'
I believe our boy Derek falls into the latter category there. Pound for pound, Derek Trucks is the M-A-N!
Jordan is great! I mean GREAT! But Bird's better. He did more with less than anyone in the history of BB.
And my beef w/ Jordan, they changed the entire 'rules' of basketball to benefit his style of play. Especially on the defensive end of the ball.
Hey SkyPonyDogBoy - No reason to be sorry. We can agree to disagree and not call each other names! But I bet we agree that this is one kickass band!
Max
Sorry Maximule, I disagree with every
observation of the ABB you made, with the exception of music being BIG business.

Happy Birthday Gerald!!! Have a great day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GERALD

I have just been informed that there is a "Special Birthday" in the house today :bounce:
Happy 50th birthday to one of the Good Ones, GPM/Gerald/the Music Man from Mobile 😀 Enjoy YOUR day, brother. Thanks for all of the music you have shared over the years.
We'll see you at the Beacon :guitar:

(Jody made me do it--but I was glad to!)
It's not the original brotherhood, but it is cool that I go to NYC every year to see the band, meet up with people I've now known for nearly a decade, go some pre-show parties where members of the Allmans actually make an appearance, and then get to head to Wanee for a similar but different experience just 2 weeks later. It won't last forever folks...
I honestly don't care that much about whether the "real" or original brotherhood is alive or not. Is the music good? That's what I want to know.
Yes, as a fan, it is a nice bonus that Derek Trucks appears to be one of the nicest guys on the planet on top of being one of the most talented and original players to ever pick up a guitar. I'd still be a fan of his music if he wasn't such a good guy. There also appears to be a lot of respect and deep friendship among the current bandmembers. I don't know if that is brotherhood or what. But I think we get more shows because of it. I also totally dig meeting so many of you kind folks, renewing friendships and making new ones at shows.
And this band has managed their affairs in the grand scheme of things pretty well if members are buying estates in France etc. Good for them. If it wasn't profitable we probably wouldn't be getting 15 shows at the Beacon this year nor seeing the ABB do Wanee.....it would have likely been over by now.
I do hope we get to see Derek on another ABB album though. HTN was great, but I think there might be something even better in the tank. I'm all for quality over quantity so I can wait. Maybe they can hit Gregg's basement studio together later this year...
Oh, yeah these are just my opinions...
All I know is I get my money's worth every time I see these guys.
I go to other shows and bands play their hits and get off the stage in less than 90 minutes. Being spoiled by the ABB, I keep wondering when the second half is going to start.....
 :reddancer:
And that bald headed guy from wilmington has to be the best!
A few observations:
Concerts are a big $ business these days. A typical brothers show is about 7 semi's nose to tail. Also, about 40 IATSE hands and riggers. Most folks would really be amazed to see what it takes to get a show up and running - then tear it down and have it up and running 400 miles away the very next day. And we havent even mentioned the local event staff and other related services needed. Its a business.
Opinion - Warren is the "strongest" overall member of the band ever. Vocals - writing - slide - lead. Hardcore with no let up. He sings circles around FRB and gives greg a run for his money any day of the week. But what did you expect maximule to say.
Derek is the best guitarist in the bands history - sorry Duane fans. It took me a long time to admit this to myself but I believe it.
The band is better off without FRB! He brings a very distinct flavor to the band. Nobody plays a crowd better than FRB. But from what I hear the deamons are too much to offset his continued membership.
And just another opinion. If warren and allen hadnt been there in the 90's - i believe that there is a very distinct chance the band would not be playing today. They put the focus where it needed to be - on stage!
Just my opinions!
I would venture to say the so called brotherhood of the band is about as good as it has been since ohh 1973. Cleaned up sobered up and rockin.
Bird better than Jordan?!?!?!? Who cares about Dickey Schmicky that's just absurd! Josh, y'all Candianans must have some good sh*t out there. How 'bout sharing with the rest of us? That stuff makes ya stoopid. Lol!
Red, somehow I'd wager you might have had just a little fun from 89-96, but that would be an opinion. Things change, people change, the whole economic/musical climate changes ... Betts better guitarist than Warren? Yesterday? Today? Answer this - Who's more pleasant to be around? The ABB a cash cow today??? In the grand scheme of things maybe a cash calf or golden retriever. Somehow me thinks all the current members would still be playing somehow, somewhere, someway because thats what they love to do. But that's just my opinion. Anyway Dog peace to you and may God bless ya. I was just listening to the MTV Unplugged sessions and I heard Warren mention your name.
