This trip is my b'day present to myself.....just can't wait to get there and see all of you again and SEE THE BEST DAMN BAND IN THE LAND!!!!!!!!!!!! Just the medicine I need right now.
WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO I CAN'T WAIT !!!!!!!!!
Not one to shy away from controversy, debates, arguments and hand to hand combat if necessary, I agree with the women who made the point: The guest book is a place for POSITIVE VIBES.
Anything Goes and the Whipping Post are probably better suited for political and historical threads and debates of all kinds. People can pick and choose what they will read and participate in.
The guest book is a place where people come for support and to make positive comments about the web site, each other, the music and the scene.
Think of it like a Guest Book you would sign at a quaint bed and breakfast you stayed at.
Some of you have been trying to shift the focus of the section here for about 6 months now.
Please stop.
Thank you.
Headline: Evening rocks to classic Clapton
By Dan Nailen
The Salt Lake Tribune
Once Eric Clapton and his current touring band took the stage Thursday at a
packed EnergySolutions Arena, it was like music stopped being made from the
1980s and beyond.
Not that it was a bad thing.
Leaning heavily on his Derek and the Dominos era to provide a set list,
Clapton and Co. delivered a slew of songs from the Dominos' 1970 "Layla and
Other Assorted Lovesongs" album. Clapton dabbled in other eras of his career,
but never to the same effect as when he and fellow guitarists Derek Trucks and
Doyle Bramhall II tore into songs from that classic set.
Between-song chatter was kept to a minimum as Clapton led his charges through
a triumphant start of the show. Clapton gave the band plenty of chances to
shine. And shine they did on the show-opening blast of "Tell the Truth," "Key to
the Highway," "Got to Get Better in a Little While," "Little Wing" and "Anyday."
The 27-year-old Trucks in particular put his stamp on the show immediately,
providing stinging slide-guitar lines once played for the Dominos by Duane
Allman, co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band with Trucks' drumming uncle,
Butch Trucks. The young guitar played the kind of soulful, tasty licks that
pushed Clapton to raise his own game when it was time for him to deliver a solo.
Clapton was in fine form in both playing and singing; if anything, he ceded
too much of the spotlight to his stellar band. But the way the three guitarists
traded turns out front, as the two keyboardists, drummer, bassist and two backup
singers ably went along, made for a inspired evening. Clapton deserves a lot of
credit for filling his band with players who would force him to play great every
night, and for eschewing a greatest-hits set list in favor of a heavy dose of
blues-rock.
Midway through the set, Clapton took a solo, acoustic turn on a gorgeous
version of "Driftin' Blues," and the band joined him on stools for killer takes
on "Other Woman Blues," "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" and "Running
on Faith," the newest song he played all night, from 1989's "Journeyman" album.
By the time Clapton reached some of the monster hits the crowd was clearly
waiting for, they almost seemed like an afterthought compared to the amazing
Derek and the Dominos material. "Wonderful Tonight" was rather perfunctory,
while "Layla" earned the biggest cheer of the night and offered keyboardist
Chris Stainton his best moments. During the encore, "Cocaine" was stretched out
to give Clapton, Trucks and Bramhall each a chance to solo, and opener Robert
Cray joined the fray for "Crossroads." When it was all done after about 100
minutes, Clapton had reasserted his brilliance as a headliner, and as a judge of
talent when forming his band.
Hey Now and a Goodtime Saturday to all. 😎 Thanks so much for the Kind words about Veterans. I am a Life member of DAV. Hey Jacquie, everytime I go to the Dayton VA Center it makes me realize how fortunate I am. Thanks so much for sharing about your experiences. I am a better person from knowing you. Thanks also to Bananaman for the contributions as I also give as much as I can. Your donations do make a difference. I hope you all have a Goodtime weekend. Peach.
oh lord - now beth has the taylor out, and she and her mom -- still on piano, and who knew she could play, much less had an ear? -- are jamming to some live version of volunteered slavery. what a night. music makes the warring generations come together.
one more. saturday night in charlotte. beth's teaching her 80 year old mom how to play along with dTb playing rastaman vibration on the piano, in the bluedad approved music room. i'm loading the mule "afro-blue" compilatons onto my laptop. AJ & her aunt are at the all-school play.
when people get overwrought over the issues of now, and we all do, sometimes it's assuring to take the long view. dispells the anger. feel free to PM me for a few book recommendations. there are some engrossing books on THE worst times in recorded history, make you grateful for small, joyful mercies like...being us.
(and, truthfully, i enjoy beth teaching her mom how to play by ear a LOT more than her trying to teach ME how to dance. THAT's hopeless!!!)
hahahaha - bluedad, you're so kind.
my chili fills you up, tastes meaty, MEATY i say! powers you through your day, and you lose weight and build muscle even as you pig out!
i'm in the city from the 4th through the 9th. easter in manhattan. cool beans, huh? (kinda like my chili outa the fridge, eh?)
i wish i could be there 2 weekends in a row. have i mentioned that i love to be in the crowd and feel the love? times change but the crest of the wave of the communal ecstatic experience is timeless. the names change, but the joy -- our joy -- stays the same, out in the darkness beyond the footlights.
i understand that people didn't sit in church until, with the long view, VERY recently.
PS: jacquie -- ((((((((((jacquie)))))))))) - beth says hey!
Jacquie.... What a lovely post and sending the message right on home.. Thank You for the insight into your life as well as how you felt about the Veterans... your mother is a very wise woman... and in turn raised a wonderful daughter to be very proud of...
Thanks for sharing..... : )
19 days and counting down.
I am still in shock! Won't believe it until we drive to ATL and get on the plane...:boomerang:
Ron,
Please don't wait that long. How long is your week(s) ?????
Can you make some chili for us ????
