Holy Cow, Dan-check out this show at the HOB in MB on 5-17: Charlie Daniels Band, Marshall Tucker and the Outlaws.
Looks like I'll be hittin'a few hospitals in MB that week....
Dan, you know I haven't made a sales call to the Myrtle Beach area for a while....might be time for another road trip....want to get back to Russell's. Man, that place was great!
Who's coming to the HOB in MB? Anybody good?
The next time you see a photo of AK check out his hands. He might've had the BIGGEST meat hooks ever. His fingers were the size of Polish Sausages-I'm not exaggerating.
Bird, Free did a great version of The Hunter and I would add Paul Kossoff's name to the guitar players in Albert King's fan club.
Hey Rich you coming back down here anytime soon?
BTW Albert King had tone and style that can't be copied. He was truly one of the best if not the best.
Yeah.....I saw Albert at the Chicago Blues Fest back in '92 not long before he died and he still had that incredible power and presence.
They broke the mold when they made that man.
Crossed fingers for no rain in Memphis and for ABB in Cincy for Krishna and Scott. Lots of other fans there too. 🙂 And if it's on a weekend, who knows, have mule mobile will travel. LOL.
Peace to all in need.
Hey to everyone heading to the Freebird tonight to see The Man in The Hat kick off his tour - HAVE A GREAT TIME! 😎
Mr King played that thing lefty, but strung as a righty guitar, in other words, high string on the top! You know he didn't play chords, he once said something to the effect of that he payed other people to do that! If you can't play Albert and hear a strong Dickey Betts sound there, you are missing something, it's the other way around, of course, Mr King was first. And Dickey took that style, added to it and made his own, but that "Play Like A 300 Pound Man" is the thing...... POWER in them notes, he is my guitar idol to emulate...... power baby..... as someone on the LP site has as their logo: Fast is great, but accuracy is everything (Wyatt Earp)..... That's Albert...... the spaces say as much as the notes...... and when the riff comes, it is sledgehammer time....
The Hunter is on Rendezvous With the Blues (Jimmy Hall, Jackie).
Tony, I was just in Baltimore earlier this week and our group was booked into the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner Tuesday night (not my choice) and I noticed Albert King's enormous white Flying V under glass-very cool. And next to it was one of John Lee Hooker's old axes and across the room they had one of Keith Richards' very rare Gibson L-6s.
All this incredible history under one roof and none of the people I was cared or had a clue.
Man, the food SUCKED, though...
Music advice of the day:
1967 Albert King album "Born Under A Bad Sign"........ let's see, who copied that cat, hmmm...... Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray, and our own MR Dickey Betts........
On that:
Title song (no it's not a Cream song) but you could take their version and superimpose it right over the top of Alberts.
Oh, Pretty Woman: no, not the pop ditty, the REAL one.
The Hunter (aka Love Gun): didn't Vanilla Fudge do this?
and more..... the backing band? Only Booker T and the MG's... go Memphis.
DanB, Mooresville is ABOVE the Charlotte/MD line, so Charlesinator is a Yankee...
Hey Charles is Mooresville above or below the Charlotte/Dixon line?
Happy Birthday Lee! Nothing wrong with starting that celebration early!!
:birthday:
Luke - Dickey and KoKo Taylor - damn sure wish I was close enough to go!!
For what it's worth, I look forward to seeing Dickey in Syracuse next month. The last two times I've seen him he did a great job. He's also very camera friendly, unlike a certain band. I wouldn't hesitate to see him, and I can take my camera gear with me, which makes it even better.
Luke, I'm confused. I was only responding to your post:
