I just got the new Jimmy Hall CD "Build Your Own Fire" with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Collective. It's a tribute to Eddie Hinton. Jimmy does 11 Eddie Hinton songs and there's an interview with David Hood at the end of the disc. It's Jimmy Hall so it kicks a$$

Getting ready to leave for Warren Haynes' Mountain Jam! Ow! Owww! VERY IMPORTANT!! NEWS FLASH!!!! On June 24, 2007 at 8:00PM, at BBKings in NYC, David Kramer Presents "Cornell & Erma Dupree's 48th Wedding Anniversary Celebration, featuring Cornell Dupree with the Soul Survivors (Cornell, Les McCann, Jerry Jermott, Buddy Williams, Jimmy Allen Smith and Ronnie Cuba) with Chuck Rainey and SPECIAL GUEST, GREGG ALLMAN, and other special guests I can't say at this time, IT WILL BE A SURPRISE!!! I was hired for the backstage photo gig and thought it would be nice and so appropriate to share this with the ABB family and friends who live in the NYC area. Alot of these guys were good friends and played with Duane Allman back in the day. It is going to be a very special evening and I for one will be honored to be in the house. Cornell Dupree (uncle Funky) is an incredibly influential R&B guitarist who has recorded on over 2,500 albums, Originally from Texas, King Curtis discovered him and brought him to NY in 1962. It was there as guitarist for the king Curtis band along with bassist Chuck Rainey that he got his chops backing such legends as Sam Cook and Fats Domino, opening up for the Beatles on the '65 tour, sharing guitar duties with an unknown Jimi Hendrix in '66 and doing some session work with a very young Duane Allman. You can hear Dupree's signature guitar sound on "Rainey Nite in Georgia or Aretha's Respect or backing Roberta Flack, Donny Hathway, James Taylor, Wilson Pickett, Same & Dave, played on Sat Nite Live and toured with Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker, and the list goes on. Although Dupree did some work with Duane Allman, he hadn't met Brother Gregg until he sat in with the Allman Bros Band back at the Beacon Theater in NY last year along with Jerry Jermott and Bernard Purdie playing "Memphis Soul Stew". HOW'S THAT FOR STUFF!!! Love and Peace, Kimberly

oh man does the new Grace Potter stuff sound AWESOME, or what? i'm so glad that her sophmore effort sounds as if it will be even better than her frosh! Too cool. i remember when i saw her last year, i was teasing about that Flying V she kept using (and sharing with the rest of the band) turns out the thing was a collectors item, and costs about $20K! 😮 ok, maybe they do have some cash for equipment afterall.....

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada on Thursday became one of at least a dozen states to enact laws against fake groups promoting themselves as famed musicians. The new law requires performing groups to have at least one member of the recording group that they claim a connection to, or label the production a "tribute" or "salute." Otherwise, claiming a connection would be considered a deceptive trade practice. "Nevada is the entertainment capital of the world, so this was one of our major goals," said Sonny Turner of the Platters after he watched Gov. Jim Gibbons sign the bill. Turner, Porter, Jon "Bowzer" Bauman of Sha Na Na and Mary Wilson of the Supremes had urged Nevada lawmakers to pass the bill, repeating arguments that they and others, including former members of the Coasters, had made around the country. At least five groups around the world are touring, claiming false connections to the Supremes, Wilson said. She sued them all but lost, spending "a couple million dollars" in the process, she told lawmakers. Maxine Porter, longtime manager for Bill Pinkney, the last surviving original member of The Drifters, was with Turner at the bill-signing. She said that their goal is to get such laws on the books in nearly 20 states by the end of the year. Said Porter, who lives in Las Vegas: "In a town like this, where you have a constant flow of tourists, this is a place where people expect to have authenticity. You don't need to see the Drifters advertised on three different marquees." Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Illinois are among the states with similar legislation.
