I took Spanish when I was a freshman in HS. It was 1st period. I usually got to school stoned to the bone, so I would usually go through class with my head down on my arms. About all I can do now is order off the menu at my favorite Mexican restaurant. And order beer..."Más cerveza por favor!"

on making English the "official" language...if done by a law many more layers of regulations would be added to many areas of life, and that would cost $$$. i thought right wingers were against that.... any of you been inconvenienced by someone forcing you to speak anything but English? oh, and despite the limbaugh/o'reilly noise to the contrary, we still teach English every day. speaking a second language is an asset in the world economy...

Here's how smart I was / am.... Went to two years of high school in El Paso, at that time well over 50% Mexican American.... so I took a language of course. French never been to France..... Can't speak but four or five phrases in French now after 30 years. I can do a really cheezy French accent though. And all I can do in Spanish is cuss..... And having spent years around the barrios I can also do a really cheezy Mexican accent. I'm worthless.

Have to to say that after an hour of last nites debate I had to turn it off...It baffles me to see that not one canidate can answer a question. It saddens me that we are at this state..fire them all and lets start over I say...do we really think that anyone of those canidates could be better then what we already have...to me it will be the same ***** again. Just venting some steam...

Don't know if y'all saw this article from The Macon Telegraph about a benefit concert this weekend. At the end of the article one of the organizers, a chap named Glenn Harrell, finds the perfect words to explain Duane Allman's impact on all of us. Enjoy... HEADLINE: Charity concert aims to keep Allman Brothers legacy alive By Joe Kovac Jr., jkovac@macon.com Last year when the Skydog Benefit Concert cranked up in Central City Park the Sunday before Thanksgiving, a longtime Allman Brothers Band fan showed up and told an event organizer that it reminded him of the old days when the Allmans themselves played in the park. "He said that it was just a trip down memory lane. ... He was just thanking us for the music we were playing, saying that helped him to relive a lot of those wonderful moments in his past," said Glenn Harrell, who is helping put on this year's benefit. The show is the second such concert designed to collect canned goods for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank. "One person said they close their eyes and they were back at Fillmore East," Harrell said. "Our goal is not to become another Allman Brothers Band. Our goal is not to take anything away from the present Allman Brothers Band ... but to compliment them and appreciate the Allman Brothers for the contribution that they have given." To show that appreciation, several musicians will get together for Sunday's benefit concert, which aims to double the amount of food - 850 pounds - that it collected last year. Concertgoers are asked to take a canned good or two to contribute to the cause. Among the musicians lined up to play are: Paul Hornsby, Big Mike, Chris Hicks, Ken and Eric Wynn, and Tony Tyler. Harrell said the acts will play early Allman Brothers tunes and songs Duane Allman - whose "Skydog" nickname is where the benefit gets its name - recorded with BB King, Eric Clapton and Aretha Franklin. "I've been dreaming about (this benefit) for many years. I've chosen to focus on the many positive attributes that Duane's had on my life and on all the buddies I know that are great musicians," Harrell said. "The passion and the ability that Duane had to reach inside people's soul, that's really what has driven me to be about this. ... Duane was just a seriously passionate musician with skill to match his passion, and he played music in ways that a lot of us musicians only dream about today. ... The word that comes to my mind is abandon. Duane played with a musical abandon. He closed his eyes. ... He took people places. I call it 'Planet Skydog' because I don't know any other place it is." Sunday What: Skydog Benefit Concert Where: Central City Park When: Noon-5 p.m. Cost: Free, asked to take one or more canned goods Info: (478) 986-7093

It's probably a good idea to learn Spanish, or get your kids to learn it. Just practical. For one thing, one doesn't need a new amendment to "make English the official language". It more or less all ready is, so y'all try not to get all in a twist over--really, not much. You'll never have problems, or run out of people to jabber at in this country, if all you speak is English.... HOWEVER: if you live in Fla, the SW, West Coast--pretty much anywhere--it's probably worth one's while to learn at least a little rudimentary Spanish. Plus, it's kinda fun (and not a bad hedge against paranoia next time you go, say, to a Cuban or Mexican retaurant)

If everyone just spoke with kindness to their fellow man and spread the word of peace, the language wouldn't matter..... in lieu of that, I propose PIG Latin be universal....

"Novus Ordo Seclorum ... Annuit Coeptis". Those words are also on the dollar bill. Should we all rush out and learn Latin? 😉
