Sounds like a Neil Young show is a pretty good place to be lately..... "Whether rattling the rafters or going quiet, Neil Young wows crowd" November 11, 2007 BY MARTIN BANDYKE FREE PRESS SPECIAL WRITER Neil Young’s concert at Detroit’s Fox Theatre on Saturday night was a career retrospective divided into two parts — acoustic and electric. Before an enthralled, fist-pumping, air-guitar playing, sold-out crowd, Young began the show on acoustic guitar and sang a heartfelt rendition of “From Hank To Hendrix,” taken from his 1992 album “Harvest Moon.” From there he went even deeper into his catalogue for an incisive take of “Ambulance Blues” from 1974’s “On the Beach.” It was immediately apparent that Young was not in Detroit for just a sentimental, easy-going evening of hits and other familiar tunes. This was a show geared toward aficionados, although even the most casual fans were easily taken in by both Young’s devotion to his craft and his iconoclastic stage design. The Fox’s stage was costumed in a retro and at times surreal style featuring what looked like illuminated letters and numerals from old movie theater marquees, back-in-the-day lighting fixtures and even a red-suited artist cranking out canvases during part of the show. With none other than Bob Seger rooting him on and giving him a number of standing ovations, Young drew some of the loudest cheers of the night in his acoustic set with powerful versions of “After the Gold Rush” and “Harvest,” with the audience joining in on impromptu sing-alongs. He kept the stage patter to a minimum, which didn’t matter a bit to the crowd as they ate up Young’s set-closing “Love is a Rose” and ever-popular “Heart of Gold.” After an intermission Young switched over to electric guitar for the most part and was joined by longtime collaborators Ralph Molina on drums, Rick Rosas on bass and Ben Keith on guitar and keyboards. During this section Young unveiled several tracks from his latest album “Chrome Dreams II,” the best being a 10-minute plus “No Hidden Path,” featuring one of Young’s patented, very extended guitar solos. Swaying his shoulders and stomping his feet, Young cranked out enough blistering, earth-shaking notes out of his guitar to actually dislodge some pieces of old confetti from the rafters above the stage at the Fox. To close out the two-hour plus concert, Young and his band did “Cinnamon Girl” and “Tonight’s the Night,” leaving the crowd utterly sated.

I am listening to WNCW.org right now and they are playing songs in tribute to Duane's birthday today. Prior to this they had a segment about the Christmas jam and it's contribution to the Asheville Habitat for Humanity. REMEMBER DUANE ALLMAN

So a front runner appears to be Ray Charles' Ain't That Love. Sentimental but not gut wrenching. Slow dance but not a snore. Nice bluesy voice. I really appreciate all of the suggestions. Pass more along if you think of anything else. Regarding the Beacon run. Anyone hearing anything about May instead of March?

Carol, the verse that always tears me out the frame is: YOU WILL ALWAYS RESIDE IN MY HEART’S MOST SACRED PLACE SAFE FROM ALL TIME AND ALL DISTANCE THERE YOU WILL REMAIN THE FAITH YOU’VE HAD IN ME MADE ME AND MY FAITH SO MUCH STRONGER FOR THE BLESSINGS YOU’VE BROUGHT ME AND THE LESSONS YOU’VE TAUGHT ME I've raised my daughters in church pretty much all their lives. My oldest daughter has been anointed with the Holy Spirit. She feels a call to youth ministry. It amazes me that a child of a wild ass hippy biker musician can be so focused. Her faith does inspire me all the time. My children are my heart. When I hear that verse quoted above, it rings so true to me and touches me deep in my heart. LeeRoy knocked a homer on that tune. I was glad I got to meet him at JFD 2005 and then see him in a small club in Augusta shortly afterwards. He's a great guy. Got a good picture of me, him and Bluedad, too.

Had another unique experience at work this past week...Had a young lady walk in , extend her hand saying "Hi! I am Hety Cyntia" which right there was enough to knock me over with a feather... Anyway, she started out buying a beautiful little Candy-apple Red rag-top Celica, cash, then yesterday, , before the deal was closed, decided to up-grade to a fantastic little silvery-gold Eclipse, much newer /lower miles. Kevin is trying to get her "bought" this morning...Her first car bought on credit. What makes this deal so unusual, This tiny little woman, barely 5 foot tall, came to this great US of A little more than a few months ago. She speaks better English than many of my customers, better than I, extremely gentle and well mannered, so much so, had she gone elsewhere, she might have been taken advantage of. Alone is this Country, she is here to work hard and make a better life for herself, from of all places, Bangladesh.. makes me think of that gentle Soul , George Harrison, and his great humanitarian works..He lives in this woman...She is his success. Something (written with a bit of help from Bonnie Bramlett) is another good choice for a wedding song imho. Bonnie also has a song Carefree written especially for her daughter Bekka on her jazz cd.Truly beautiful lyrics and tune..I wonder how I lived without it... Dave, Daddies and Daughters :clapping: LOVE LOVE LOVE that song and the beautiful man that wrote those lyrics... Had LR not reached out his hand up to Kevin and I when Heather flew away, surely we would have died of broken hearts... Howdy :cowboy: ! off to the races....Have a great one Peachies...Ca

I will also say I think George W and his boss Dick Cheney are doing a bang up job. Iraq, 6 years and nowhere with a real energy policy, and oh all those wonderful social programs, can you name one? Oh yea No Child Left Behind, just crammed in classrooms like sardines. This and as usual for the Bush family someone will pick up the check after his time is up, well done, well done. Please send flames to my PM and I'll be glad to chat. Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels to all!

Here in Miami, the going price for gas is about $3.12 - $3.18 for regular.... $8.25? Where is that, Germany? When I was in Europe 30 years ago they were paying $4.00 - $5.00 a gallon.
